분말고속도공구강 JYPS-23에서 열처리조건에 따른 3점 굽힘피로특성 (Three Point Bending Fatigue Property with Heat Treatment Condition in a Powder Metallurgical High Speed Steel JYPS-23)

  • The effect of tempering temperature on the three point bending fatigue behavior of a P/M high speed steel JYPS-23 (1.28% C, 4.20% Cr, 6.40% W, 5.00% Mo, 3.10% V, bal. Fe) was investigated. The number of cycles to failure of the specimen austenitized at $1175^{\circ}C$ drastically increased with increasing tempering temperature. As tempering temperature increased from 500 to $620^{\circ}C$, the volume fraction and average size of carbides (MC or M6C) did not significantly changed, while hardness decreased drastically. The reduced hardness is due to the softening of matrix, which increased the resistance of the fatigue crack propagation. For a practical application, powder compacting test were also conducted with the P/M high speed steel punches tempered at 500, 580, and $620^{\circ}C$. The number of compacting cycles to failure of the punches also increased with increasing tempering temperature.

Chemically Modified Superhydrophobic Zinc Oxide nanoparticle surface

  • We investigated the fabrication method of superhydrophobic nanocoating prepared by a simple spin-coating and the chemisorption of fatty acid. The resulting coating showed a tremendous water repellency (static water contact angle = $154^{\circ}$) and the water contact angle can be modulated by changing the number of deposition cycles of ZnO and the carbon length of Self-Assembled Monolayers (SAM). Varying the number of deposition cycles of ZnO controlled the surface roughness, and affected to the superhydrophobicity. This simple coating method can be universally applicable to any substrates including flexible surfaces, papers and cotton fabrics, which can effectively be used in various potential applications. We also observed the thermal and dynamic stabilities of SAM on ZnO nanoparticles. The superhydrophobicic surface maintained its superhydrophobic properties below $250^{\circ}C$ and under dynamic conditions.

Stabilization effect of fission source in coupled Monte Carlo simulations

  • A fission source can act as a stabilization element in coupled Monte Carlo simulations. We have observed this while studying numerical instabilities in nonlinear steady-state simulations performed by a Monte Carlo criticality solver that is coupled to a xenon feedback solver via fixed-point iteration. While fixed-point iteration is known to be numerically unstable for some problems, resulting in large spatial oscillations of the neutron flux distribution, we show that it is possible to stabilize it by reducing the number of Monte Carlo criticality cycles simulated within each iteration step. While global convergence is ensured, development of any possible numerical instability is prevented by not allowing the fission source to converge fully within a single iteration step, which is achieved by setting a small number of criticality cycles per iteration step. Moreover, under these conditions, the fission source may converge even faster than in criticality calculations with no feedback, as we demonstrate in our numerical test simulations.

Variable latency L1 data cache architecture design in multi-core processor under process variation

  • In this paper, we propose a new variable latency L1 data cache architecture for multi-core processors. Our proposed architecture extends the traditional variable latency cache to be geared toward the multi-core processors. We added a specialized data structure for recording the latency of the L1 data cache. Depending on the added latency to the L1 data cache, the value stored to the data structure is determined. It also tracks the remaining cycles of the L1 data cache which notifies data arrival to the reservation station in the core. As in the variable latency cache of the single-core architecture, our proposed architecture flexibly extends the cache access cycles considering process variation. The proposed cache architecture can reduce yield losses incurred by L1 cache access time failures to nearly 0%. Moreover, we quantitatively evaluate performance, power, energy consumption, power-delay product, and energy-delay product when increasing the number of cache access cycles.

  • A k-total-coloring of a graph G is a coloring of $V{\cup}E$ using k colors such that no two adjacent or incident elements receive the same color. The total chromatic number ${\chi}^{{\prime}{\prime}}(G)$ of G is the smallest integer k such that G has a k-total-coloring. Let G be a planar graph with maximum degree ${\Delta}$. In this paper, it's proved that if ${\Delta}{\geq}7$ and G does not contain adjacent 5-cycles, then the total chromatic number ${\chi}^{{\prime}{\prime}}(G)$ is ${\Delta}+1$.

  • The reliability of BGA (ball grid array) package with OSP (organic surface preservative) surface finish under thermal cycle was investigated by using SEM (scanning electron microscopy), EDS(energy dispersive spectroscopy), image tool and ball shear test. The IMCs (intermetallic compounds) were increased with increasing number of thermal cycles. However, the shear strengths of solder ball were decreased with increasing number of thermal cycles. The order of solders which had the highest shear strength as follow: Sn-3.5wt%Ag-0.7wt%Cu, Sn-0.7wt%Cu, Sn-37wt%Pb.

미소원공을 갖는 선박 추진축재의 피로크랙 전파 거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Behavior of Fatigue Crack Propagation in Marine Propeller Shaft Materials with Small Circular Defect)

  • In this paper, fatigue crack propagation behaviors were investigated experimentally for the materials, carbon steel forgings (SF45A, SF50A, SF60A) which are used in the marine propeller shaft. The results obtained are as follows: The number of cycles required to grow crack length 1.30mm from microcrack initiation was about 60% of the total fatigue life. Fatigue crack propagation rate was expressed by the equation d(2a)/dN_B 2a/$N_f$ and the result was agreed well with the experimented data. And the equation d(2a)/dN=$C{\sigma}_a^m(2a)^n$ was evaluated also. Obtained material property m and n are 3~5 and 1-1.5 respectably, and the result was reasonably agreed to the data obtained from experiments.

Prediction of flexural behaviour of RC beams strengthened with ultra high performance fiber reinforced concrete

  • This paper predicts the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with a precast strip of ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). In the first phase, ultimate load capacity of preloaded and strengthened RC beams by UHPFRC was predicted by using various analytical models available in the literature. RC beams were preloaded under static loading approximately to 70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load of control beams. The models such as modified Kaar and sectional analysis predicted the ultimate load in close agreement to the corresponding experimental observations. In the second phase, the famous fatigue life models such as Papakonstantinou model and Ferrier model were employed to predict the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection. The models were used to predict the life of the (i) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different pre-loadings (70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load) under static loading and (ii) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different preloading cycles under fatigue loading. In both the cases precast UHPFRC strip of 10 mm thickness is attached on the tension face. It is found that both the models predicted the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection very close to the experimental values. It can be concluded that the models are found to be robust and reliable for cement based strengthening systems also. Further, the Wang model which is based on Palmgren-Miner's rule is employed to predict the no. of cycles to failure and it is found that the predicted values are in very good agreement with the corresponding experimental observations.

RSA 암호 시스템을 위한 고속 모듈라 곱셈 알고리즘 (High Speed Modular Multiplication Algorithm for RSA Cryptosystem)

  • 본 논문에서는 sign estimation technique (3)을 기초로 한 radix-4 모듈라 곱셈 알고리즘을 제안한다. Sign estimation technique은 carry와 sum의 형태로 표현되는 수에서 부호를 알아내는 것이다. 이 방법은 5비트 carry look-ahead adder로 구현이 가능하다. RSA와 같은 암호화 시스템에서는 모듈라 곱셈이 하드웨어의 성능을 좌우한다. 제안한 알고리즘은 modulus가 n 비트인 경우, 모듈라 곱셈 수행시 일반적인 알고리즘의 약 반 클럭 (n/2+3) 사이클만 필요하다. 그래서 매우 큰수의 modulus 사용하는 RSA 암호시스템에서 모듈라 멱승 연산에 매우 효율적이다. 또한 모듈라 곱셈의 하드웨어 성능을 향상하기 위해, CSA (Carry Save Adder)의 맨 마지막 출력에 사용되는 CPA (Carry Propagation Adder) 대신 고속 덧셈기(7)를 사용하였다. 모듈라 멱승 계산이 n 클럭이 소요되는 RL binary 방법을 적용하여 1024 비트 데이터를 RSA 암호화하는데 n(n/2+3) 클럭 사이클만 소요된다.

세척조건에 스판덱스사의 길이와 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Washing Conditions on the Dimension and Mechanical Properties of Spandex Yarns)

  • 탄성직물의 내구성은 탄성직물에 포함된 스판덱스사의 성질변화가 큰 영향을 미친다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 세탁조건이 스판덱스사의 길이, 강도와 신도, $300\%$신장 후의 영구탄성 변화에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 시료로는 굵기가 다른 스판덱스사와 heat-set 시 신장률이 다른 편성물을 가정용 드림세탁기에서 세탁온도, 세탁 전 침지시간과 세탁휫수를 달리하여 세탁한 후, 편성물로부터 스판덱스사를 분리하여 기계적 성질을 측정하였다 스판덱스사의 길이는 세탁온도가 높아지거나, $40\%$에서 세탁휫수가 증가하면 계속 감소하였으나 세탁 전 침지시간에 따른 영향은 비교적 적었다 섬유가 가늘수록 길이 수축률이 크며 세척 조건변화에 따른 수축률이 크게 증가하였다. 스판덱스사의 강도와 신도는 반복 세척 시의 감소가 뚜렷하였으며, heat-set 시에는 강도와 신도도 크게 감소하였고, heat-set 시에 가해준 신장률이 클수록 감소가 더 컸다. 한편 스판덱스사의 영구변형률은 세탁온도가 높으며, 침지시간이 길고, 세탁횟수가 많을 때 현저히 높았다. 대체적으로 굵은 스판덱스사의 영구변형률이 크며, 140D는 30회 세척 후에 $28.0\%$의 영구변형 이 일어났다. Heat-set로 스판덱스사의 영구변형은 늘어나며, heat-set 시에 신장률이 큰 스판덱스사의 영구변형이 더 많았다. DSC 열분석 곡선에서 스판덱스 섬유는 반복 세탁과 heat-set여부와 관계없이 동일한 융해온도를 나타내었으며, 이로부터 스판덱스 섬유의 hard segment분자쇄 길이는 세탁 또는 heat-set후에도 변화가 없는 것으로 보여진다.
