Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) is one of the main enzymes involved in the formation and metabolism of the neurotransmitter glutamate. In the present study, we investigated the distribution of the GDH-immunoreactive cells in the rat brain using monoclonal antibodies against bovine brain GDH isoprotein. GDH-immunoreactive cell were distributed in the basal ganglia, thalamus and the nuclei belong to substantia innominata, and its connecting area, subthalamic nucleus, zona incerta, and substantia niqra. We could see GDH-immunoreactive cells in the hippocampus, septal nuclei associated with the limbic system, the anterior thalamic nuclei connecting between the hypothalamus and limbic system, and its associated structures, amygdaloid nuclear complex, the dorsal raphe and median raphe nuclei and the reticular formation of the midbrain. The GDH-immunoreactive cells were shown in the pyramidal neurons of the cerebral cortex, the Purkinie cells of the cerebella cortex, their associated structures, ventral thalamic nuclei and the reticular thalamic nuclei that seem to function as neural conduction in the thalamus.

Airborne in-situ measurements of aerosol/cloud number concentrations were analyzed to investigate the effects of aerosols on warm cloud formation in the Pacific Dust Experiment (PACDEX) during April and May 2007. In the air masses originating from the Asian continent, high concentrations of fine particles including black carbon (BC) were observed when compared to other regions. A strong correlation (r=0.88) between condensation nuclei (CN) having sizes ranging from 0.1 to 1.0 mm ($CN_{0.1-1.0}$) and cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) at 0.4% supersaturation ($CCN_{0.4%}$) suggests that most of the $CN_{0.1-1.0}$ can contribute to cloud formation. The possibility of a cloud droplet formation by BC particles was expected at the high water vapor mixing ratio (WVMR) and the abundance of water-soluble components at the low altitude less than 3 km.
Single nuclei from two-, four- and eight-cell mouse embryos were transplanted into enucleated two-cell mouse embryos by micromanipulation and sendai virum mediated fusion. no significant difference in successful injectin rate and fusion rate was found between the cell stages of nuclear donor embryos. There nuclear transplant embryos receiving different cell stage nuclei were cultured in vitro for 96 hours. 75.3% of 255 embryos receiving 2-cell nuclei, 68.2% of 236 embryos reciving 4-cell nuceli and 46.9% of 228 embryos receiving 8-cell nuclei were developed to blastocyst, respectively. The number of blastomeres was significantly(P<0.05) reduced in the embryos receiving 8-cell nuclei, compared with the embryos receiving 2-cell, 4-cell nuclei or the intact embryos. Also the size of blastocysts was significantly(P<0.05) smaller in the embryos receiving 8-cell nuclei, compared with the intact or other nuclear transplant embryos. These results suggest that single nuclei introduced into the enucleated two-cell embryos are able to support the in vitro development of the reconstituted embryos to blastocysts. The prominant retardation of blastocoele formation and cell division was shown in nuclear transplant embryos receiving eight-cell nuclei when they were cultured in vitro.
Nuclear distribution within the extra-radical fungal structures and during spore production in the arbuscular mycorrhizae fungus Glomus intraradices was examined using an in vitro monoxenic culture system. A di-compartmental monoxenic culture system was modified using a nitrocellulose membrane and a coverglass slip for detailed observations. Nuclear distribution was observed using the fluorescent DNA binding probes SYBR Green I and DAPI. Both septate and non-septate mycelial regions were observed, but cytoplasmic contents were only found within non-septate mycelia. Nuclear fluorescent staining revealed that the non-septate hyphal region contained nuclei only with cytoplasm, and that nuclear distribution was limited by septa. Swollen hyphal bodies were often associated with septate and empty-looking hyphae. Cytoplasmic contents filled the swollen hyphal body from the non-septate hyphal region following removal of the septa. As a consequence, the swollen body developed into a new spore. These observations provide understanding about the distribution of AM fungal nuclei within extra-radical mycelia and during spore formation. The results suggest a mechanism by which the development of a cytoplasm-containing mycelium is controlled by the formation or removal of septa to efficiently maintain and proliferate essential contents. This mechanism may provide a survival strategy to the fungus.
Quadrupolar interaction is a strong line broadening agent for nuclei of half-integer spin except the central line. The two-pulse quadrupolar echo technique is widely used, which refocuses the quadrupolar broadening. Echo formation is due to the cancellation of quadrupolar broadening effect by the applied two pulses. Since the central line is not quadrupolar broadened, it should not be involved in the echo formation. However, the central line peak always appears in experiments. This is explained qualitatively here by close examination on the time development of individual coherence. This explanation is used to predict the number of echoes that will be formed with 2 pulse sequence for nuclei of I=3/2, 5/2, 7/2, 9/2 with ease.

Red algal fertilization is unusual and offers a different model to the mechanism of intracellular transport of nuclei and polyspermy blocking. A female carpogonium (egg) undergoes plasmogamy with many spermatia (sperm) simultaneously at the receptive structure, trichogyne, which often contains numerous male nuclei. The pattern of selective transport of a male nucleus to the female nucleus, located in the cell body of the carpogonium, remain largely unknown. We tracked the movement of spermatial nuclei and cell organelles in the trichogyne after plasmogamy using time-lapse videography and fluorescent probes. The fertilization process of Bostrychia moritziana is composed of five distinctive stages: 1) gamete-gamete binding; 2) mitosis in the attached spermatia; 3) formation of a fertilization channel; 4) migration of spermatial nuclei into the trichogyne; and 5) cutting off of the trichogyne cytoplasm from the rest of the cell after karyogamy. Our results showed that actin microfilaments were involved in the above steps of fertilization, microtubules are involved only in spermatial mitosis. Time-lapse videography showed that the first ("primary") nucleus which entered to trichogyne moved quickly to the base of carpogonium and fused with the female nucleus. The transport of the primary male nucleus to the egg nucleus was complete before its second nucleus migrated into the trichogyne. Male nuclei from other spermatia stopped directional movement soon after the first one entered the carpogonial base and oscillated near where they entered trichogyne. The cytoplasm of the trichogyne was cut off at a narrow neck connecting the trichogyne and carpogonial base after gamete nuclear fusion but gamete binding and plasmogamy continued on the trichogyne. Spermatial organelles, including mitochondria, entered the trichogyne together with the nuclei but did not show any directional movement and remained close to where they entered. These results suggest that polyspermy blocking in B. moritziana is achieved by the selective and rapid transport of the first nucleus entered trichogyne and the rupture of the trichogyne after gamete karyogamy.
Formation of adduct was studied in benzo(a)pyrene(BP)- and doxorubicin(Dx)-treated human NC-37 cells and isolated nuclei. Major adducts formed were determined by fluorescence absorption spectrophotometery and DNA-lin-ked protein assay. When isolated nuclei were exposed to carcinogens BP and DMBA, and anticancer drugs m-AMSA, ellipticine and Dx, varying degrees of adduct formation occured between DNA-protein complex and these drugs. When the mixture was centrifuged 1.7 M sucrose solution, binding BP and DMBA appeared to be similar between the sediment and the supernatant. When the sediment was centrifuged again with 0.35% polymin-P, the amount of BP bound was 2-fold greater in the protein(1077$\pm$55cpm) than in DNA fraction (470$\pm$20cpm), whereas that of DMBA was 1.6-fold greater in the DNA than in protein fraction. In the case of m-AMSA, ellipticine and Dx, the amount of binding was slightly greater in supernatant than in sediment in centrifugation with 1.7 M sucrose, and more than 3 times greater in the DNA- than in protein- fraction in centrifugation with 0.35% polymin P. DNA fractions which associated with a subset of nonhistone chromosomal protein were isolated from NC-37 cells exposed to $^{3}$H-BP and $^{14}$C-Dx. They were separated into two distince components DNA-S and DNA-P by centrifugation with 2M Nacl chromatin extraction. The results indicated that the amount of $^{3}$H-BP bound was 6.0-fold greater in DNA-P as compared with DNA-S, while that of $^{14}$C-Dx binding appreaed to be 6.2-fold greater in DNA-S than in DNA-P fraction. When $^{3}$H-BP binding wasdetermined in the presence of cold Dx, the amount of binding was reduced only in the DNA-P fraction, indicating that the interaction between DNA and protein is decreased. Gene expression by these drugs, BP treated cells were increased to compare with nomal cells but reduced by treatment with BP-Dx. These results suggest that the protein moiety which tightly bound to DNA-P fraction may play an important role in the regulation of gene expression.

In this study, the effect on the zinc nuclei crystallization caused by changes preprocessing of the zinc crystalline glaze preparation has been studied. The mechanism of the nuclei formation in the crystalline glaze and development of the nuclei by studying the preprocessing step was explained. The preprocessing step was improved by altering mixing process of the materials prior to sintering: number of sieving dispersion process and ultra-sonication prove tests with various duration of sonication. According to the result, the sieving and sonication of the starting materials facilitated the interface reactions of $ZnO-SiO_2$ from $680^{\circ}C$ where low temperature willemite is formulated, and altered Si bonding for the easier bonding between Zn-Si. In other words, solely sieving was enough to accelerate the formation of willemite in low temperature. When the particles were distributed evenly by sonication, the willemite formation was even more significant.
In this report, an experiment has been conducted to test the quantitative changes of nucleic acids in the nuclei of the epidermal cell of the galls, caused by Eriophyes kuko Kishida on the leaf of Lycium chinense Mill by means o( microspectrophotometric techniques, the two-wave-length methods. And the sizes of the epidermal cells and nuclei have been measured. The experimental results were summarized as follows: 1) It has been found that as the gall grows, the diameter of the epidermal cells and their nuclei increased and they were larger than those of tile healthy ones. 2) Microspectrophotometric measurement of nuclei by the 'Two-wave-length method' after staining with Feulgen reagent showed no changes in DNA content in the early stage of the gall. As the gall matured, however, DNA content of the gall increased more than that of the healthy leaf. 3) RNA-measurement of nuclei stained with Azur-B in DNase treated epidermal cells of the gall revealed that temporary increase in RNA content occurred in early to middle stages after the gall formation. As the gall matured, however, RNA content of the gall decreased more as against that of the healthy leaf.

The OISF (Oxidation Induced Stacking Fault)is expected to affect the electrical properties in Si single crystals, and the nuclei of OISF are believed to be formed during the crystal growing process. Initial oxygen concentration, dopant type and its density, and cooling rate are regareded as major factors on OISF formation. In this study, the variations of OISF density under various cooling rate were investigated. Si single crystal was heated to $1400^{\circ}C$ in Ar ambient and cooled down to room temperature at different cooling rate, using horizontal tube furnace. After that, they were oxidized at $1150^{\circ}C$, and then, OISF was observed with optical microscope. The relation between oxide procipitates and OISF nucleation was investigated by FTIR analysis. As a result, it was found that there exists the intermediate cooling rate range in which OISF nucleation is highly enhanced. And also, it was found that OISF nucleation is closely related with silicon oxide procipitation in Si single crystals.
