  • The present study investigated the effect of treatment with nocodazole on the efficiency of cell cycle synchronization and development of mouse 4-cefl embryos. In addition, developmental ability of reconstituted embryos that received nuclei from 4-cell embryos synchronized with nocodazole at M phase was examined in vitro and in vivo. (1) When 4-cell blastorneres exposed to culture medium containing l$\mu$g /ml nocodazole for 2, 4, 6 and 8 hrs, 40% (40/10l), 75% (l19/159), 85% (87/102) and 97% (155/160) of nuclei were synchronized at M phase, respectively. (2) Treated with nocodazole for 4 hrs, the proportion of 4-cell embryos developed to blastocysts (98%, 60/61) was not significanUy different from that of the control embryos (98%, 196/201). Evaluation of Volumetric Texture Features for Computerized Cell Nuclei Grading

  • The extraction of important features in cancer cell image analysis is a key process in grading renal cell carcinoma. In this study, we applied three-dimensional (3D) texture feature extraction methods to cell nuclei images and evaluated the validity of them for computerized cell nuclei grading. Individual images of 2,423 cell nuclei were extracted from 80 renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). First, we applied the 3D texture mapping method to render the volume of entire tissue sections. Then, we determined the chromatin texture quantitatively by calculating 3D gray-level co-occurrence matrices (3D GLCM) and 3D run length matrices (3D GLRLM). Finally, to demonstrate the suitability of 3D texture features for grading, we performed a discriminant analysis. In addition, we conducted a principal component analysis to obtain optimized texture features. Automatic grading of cell nuclei using 3D texture features had an accuracy of 78.30%. Combining 3D textural and 3D morphological features improved the accuracy to 82.19%. As a comparative study, we also performed a stepwise feature selection. Using the 4 optimized features, we could obtain more improved accuracy of 84.32%. Three dimensional texture features have potential for use as fundamental elements in developing a new nuclear grading system with accurate diagnosis and predicting prognosis.

  • In recent years, using Deep Learning methods to apply for medical and biomedical image analysis has seen many advancements. In clinical, using Deep Learning-based approaches for cancer image analysis is one of the key applications for cancer detection and treatment. However, the scarcity and shortage of labeling images make the task of cancer detection and analysis difficult to reach high accuracy. In 2015, the Unet model was introduced and gained much attention from researchers in the field. The success of Unet model is the ability to produce high accuracy with very few input images. Since the development of Unet, there are many variants and modifications of Unet related architecture. This paper proposes a new approach of using Unet++ with pretrained EfficientNet as backbone architecture for breast tumor cell nuclei segmentation and uses the multi-organ transfer learning approach to segment nuclei of breast tumor cells. We attempt to experiment and evaluate the performance of the network on the MonuSeg training dataset and Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) testing dataset, both are Hematoxylin and Eosin (H & E)-stained images. The results have shown that EfficientUnet++ architecture and the multi-organ transfer learning approach had outperformed other techniques and produced notable accuracy for breast tumor cell nuclei segmentation.

  • The time to measure the size distribution using Condensation Nuclei Counter(CNC) and Differential Mobility Analyzer(DMA) can be shortened by classifying particles ramping the DMA voltage exponentially and continuously. In measurement, particles sampled at different time are mixed together going through sampling tube and CNC. Because the size distribution is inversed by using detector responses to sampling time intervals in this accelerated method, the mixing effects give inversion errors to the size distribution. The mixing effects can be considered by appling the transfer function with mixing effects to the data inversion. The inversion considering this effects gives birth to the size distribution shifted to the opposite direction of the size scanning.

VARIABILITY OF ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI DUE TO FIELD-ACCRETING MODES

  • Variability of the emission-line spectra of active galactic nuclei is now a well-known phenomenon. This remains to be fully explained by a theoretical model of the central engine in an active galactic nucleus. Since the magnetic field lines are anchored on the accreting matter, they continuously fall on the event horizon of the central supermassive black hole and increase the net field strength of the hole magnetosphere. The field strength, however, cannot increase without an upper limit and, therefore, it will be decreased by some unknown processes. In this paper we discuss that these increasing and decreasing modes can be repeated periodically and explain the variability of power output, therefore, variability of active galactic nuclei.

Activation Energy of 69Ga, 71Ga, and 75As Nuclei in GaAs:Mn2+ Single Crystal

  • The spin-lattice relaxation time, $T_1$, for $^{69}Ga$, $^{71}Ga$, and $^{75}As$ nuclei in GaAs:$Mn^{2+}$ single crystals was measured as a function of temperature. The values of $T_1$ for $^{69}Ga$, $^{71}Ga$, and $^{75}As$ nuclei were found to decrease with increasing temperature. The $T_1$ values in GaAs:$Mn^{2+}$ crystal are similar to those in pure GaAs crystal. The calculated activation energies for the $^{69}Ga$, $^{71}Ga$, and $^{75}As$ nuclei are 4.34, 4.07, and 3.99 kJ/mol. It turns out that the paramagnetic impurity effect of $Mn^{2+}$ ion doped in GaAs single crystal was not strong on the spin-lattice relaxation time.

  • Putative gamma aminobu%sic acid (GABA)-ersic elements in the basilar pontine nuclei were examined in the dos using an antiserum against GABA-glutaraldehvde-protein conjusBtes and the peroxidase-antiperoxidase method. GABA-immunoreactive neuronal somata in the basilar Pons exhibited various morphology with the majority being spindle-shaped or multipolar, while some were spheroidal. The size of GABA-orgic neuronal somata was relatively small (approximately $10-20\mum)$ in diameter. GABA-immunoreactive neurons were scattered throughout the pontine nuclei, but the midline region of the medial nucleus at the rostral pons, the lateral nucleus at mid-pontine levels, and the ventral nucleus at the caudal pons exhibited a relatively greater concentration of cell bodies. A sparse number of GABA-ergic neurons were observed within the cerebral peduncle and along the ventral borders of the basilar pons adjacent to the middle cerebellar peduncle at the rostrocaudal levels of the pontine nuclei. These obsenrations provide anatomic evidence of how this inhibitory neural element performs its function in the cortico-prontocerbellar circuitry.

  • A way of quantitatively describing the tissue architecture we have investigated when developing a computer program for malignancy grading of transitional cell bladder carcinoma. The minimum spanning trees, MST was created by connecting the center points of the nuclei in the tissue section image. These nuclei were found by thresholding the image at an automatically determined threshold followed by a connected component labeling and a watershed algorithm for separation of overlapping nuclei. Clusters were defined in the MST by thresholding the edge lengths. For these clusters geometric and densitometric features were measures. These features were compared by multivariate statistical methods to the subjective grading by the pathologists and the resulting correspondence was 85% on a material of 40 samples.

  • Based on multiple measurements of ionization loss, the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) combines strong tracking ability with particle identification ability in a large momentum range, which is an important advantage of TPC detection technology over traditional ionization measurement technology. According to these two characteristics of TPC, applying it to the measurement of fission cross-section can greatly improve the measurement accuracy. During the measurement of the fission cross-section, the number of target nuclei is required to be accurately measured. So this paper introduces a method for measuring the number of 235U target nuclei using a fission TPC system. The measurement result agrees with the reference value, and relative error is around 1 %.

  • The present study was carried out to localize the central nuclei innervating the rat colon using pseudorabies virus-Bartha strain which has been known as a very useful neurotracer. The results were as follows. The central nuclei innervating the proximal colon were premotor area, subfornical organ, preoptic area in telencephalon, and paraventricular nucleus, bed nucleus of stria terminalis, retrochiasmatic area in the diencephalon, and periaqueductal gray, Edinger-Westphal nucleus, tegmental nucleus in the mesencephalon, and parabrachial nucleus, locus ceruleus, A5 area, $K{\ddot{o}}lliker$-Fuse nucleus, magnocellular reticular nucleus in the metencephalon, and nucleus tractus solitarius, A1 noradrenergic cell group, dorsal motor nucleus of vagus nerve, nucleus ambiguus, area postrema in the myelencephalon. In the spinal cord, the thoracic division had some nuclei innervating the proximal colon. The nuclei innervating the distal colon were paraventricular nucleus of the diencephalon, Edinger-Westphal nucleus of midbrain, and parabrachial nucleus, locus ceruleus, A5 area, $K{\ddot{o}}lliker$-Fuse nucleus, magnocellular reticular nucleus of the metencephalon, and nucleus tractus solitarius, dorsal motor nucleus of vagus nerve, nucleus ambiguus, area postrema in the myelencephalon. In the spinal cord, thoracic, lumbar and sacral division innervated the distal colon.
