고온가스로용 핵연료 중간화합물 제조에 대한 연구 (Study on an Intermediate Compound Preparation for a HTGR Nuclear Fuel)

  • In this study the preparation method of the spherical ADU droplets, intermediate compound of a HTGR nuclear fuel, was detailed-reviewed and then, the characteristics on an ageing and a washing steps among the wet process and the thermal treatment process on the died-ADU${\rightarrow}UO_3$ conversion with the high temperature furnaces were studied. The key parameters for spherical droplets forming are a precise control of feed rate and a suitable viscosity value selection of a broth solution. Also, a harmony of vibrating frequency and amplitude of a vibration dropping system are important factor. In our case, an uranium concentration is $0.5{\sim}0.7mol/l$, viscosity is $50{\sim}80$ centi-Poise, vibration frequency is about 100Hz. In thermal treatment for no crack spherical $UO_3$ particle, the heating rate in the calcination must be operated below $2^{\circ}C$/min, in air atmosphere.

PVA-Al(III) 착물 첨가 $UO_2$소결체와 AlOOH 첨가 $UO_2$소결체의 소결 특성 비교 (The Comparison of Sintering Characteristics between the PVA-Al(III) Complex added $UO_2$Pellet and AlOOH added $UO_2$pellet)

  • $UO_2$분말에 PVA-Al(III) 착물과 AlOOH를 각각 0.03~1.0wt%를 첨가하여 소결체를 제조한 후 소결체 특성을 비교하였다. PVA-Al(III) 착물과 AlOOH는 $1000^{\circ}C$의 소소분위기에서 열분해하는 경우 생성상은 $\theta-Al_2O_3$이었다. 순수 $UO_2$분말에 비해 AlOOH가 첨가된 혼합 분말의 곁보기 밀도는 더 높았고, PVA-Al(III) 착물이 첨가된 혼합 분말은 더 낮은 겉보기 밀도를 보였다. AlOOH가 첨가된 소결체의 경우 약 $800^{\circ}C$ 부근에서 치밀화가 시작되었지만, PVA-Al(III) 착물이 첨가된 소결체의 경우에는 약 $900^{\circ}C$에서 치밀화가 시작되었다. 기공 크기 분포는 AlOOH가 첨가된 $UO_2$소결체의 경우에 monomodal 형태로, 그리고 PVA-Al(III) 착물의 첨가된 소결체의 경우에는 bimodal 형태로 나타났다. 결정립 크기는 1wt% 첨가시 AlOOH가 첨가된 $UO_2$소결체의 경우에 약 $13\mu\textrm{m}$이었지만, PVA-Al(III) 착물의 첨가된 소결체의 경우에는 약 $\36mu\textrm{m}$까지 성장하는 현저한 효과를 확인하였다.

Effect of $TiO_2$ and $Al(OH)_3$ on Sintering Behavior of $UO_2 - Gd_2 O_3$ Fuel Pellets

  • The sintering behavior of UO$_2$-Gd$_2$O$_3$fuel pellets under H$_2$gas has been investigated using dilatometry and XRD methods. The addition of TiO$_2$or Al(OH)$_3$increased the density and grain size. A density of 95% TD and a grain size larger than 6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ are achieved by the addition of 0.1 wt% TiO$_2$or Al(OH)$_3$. It was found that the densification of UO$_2$-Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets was suppressed in the temperature range of 1300 to 150$0^{\circ}C$, compared to UO$_2$pellets. The formation of a (U,Gd)O$_2$solid solution is the main reason for the suppression of densification. The role of TiO$_2$in densification and grain growth is discussed on the basis of the densification cuwe and ceramography.

$UO_2$ Etching by Fluorine Containing Gas Plasma

  • Research on the dry etching of UO$_2$ by using fluorine containing gas plasma is carried out for DUPIC (Direct Use of spent PWR fuel In CANDU) process which is taken into consideration for potential future fuel cycle in Korea. CF$_4$/O$_2$ gas mixture is chosen for the reactant gas and the etching rates of UO$_2$ by the gas plasma are investigated as functions of substrate temperature, plasma gas pressure, CF$_4$/O$_2$ ratio, and plasma power, It is tentatively found that the etching rate can reach 1000 monolayers/min. and the optimum CF$_4$/O$_2$ ratio is around 4:1.
