Gravitational Wave Astrophysics with the Superconducting Low-frequency Gravitational-wave Telescope

  • Gravitational wave (GW) is a probe to observe compact objects (WD, NS, and BHs) in the Universe. Compact binary coalescences (CBCs) were expected to be primary sources of LIGO, VIRGO, and KAGRA. Indeed GW150914 from BH-BH binary coalescence at 430 Mpc was discovered by LIGO between 25-350 Hz. The total system mass of GW150914 is ${\sim}70M_{\odot}$, and about $3M_{\odot}$ of energy is converted to GWs in 0.2s of the observation duration. In lower frequencies below 10 Hz, in addition to CBCs with $1-100M_{\odot}$, more massive sources of ${\sim}1,000-10,000M_{\odot}$ are observable for seconds up to days in time scale. We introduce GW astrophysics and present highlights of target sources for the proposed super conducting low-frequency gravitational-wave telescope (SLGT).

철근콘크리트조 4층 골조건물의 강제진동실험 (Forced Vibration Testing of a Four-Story Reinforced Concrete Frame Building)

  • 노스리지 지진에 의해 손상을 받은4층 철근콘크리트조 골조건물을 대상으로 선형가진기 및 대용량의 편심가진기를 이용한 강제진동실험과 상시미진동 측정을 실시하였다. 미진동 가속도데이터 및 선형가진기에 의한 백색잡음 실험시의 가속도데이터로부터 구조물식별을 수행하여 7차모드까지의 고유진동수 및 모드감쇠비를 얻었다. 두대의 대용량 편심가진기를 사용하여 얻은 큰 진폭의 조화 진동하에서는 가속도데이터를 사용하여 각 방향 1차모드를 식별하였으며 변위계와 변형게이지를 이용하여 층간변위각, 기둥과 슬래브와 같은 구조부재의 곡률분포를 측정하였다. 각 경우 고유진동수는 진동의 크기가 클수록 낮아졌다. 즉, 편심가진기가력시 고유진동수는 상시미진동시에 비해 $70{\sim}75%$, 선형가진시가력시에 비해 $92{\sim}93%$ 정도로 낮게 나타났다. 이러한 진동수의 감소폭은 지진에 의해 큰 손상을 받았던 건물의 남북방향에서 크게 나타났다.

생산자동화 시스템에서 실시간 물체인식을 위한 디지털 뉴런프로세서의 설계 및 알고리즘 개발 (Design of the Digital Neuron Processor and Development of the Algorithm for the Real Time Object Recognition in the Making Automatic System)

  • 본 논문에서는 캐리 전파가 없어 고속연산이 가능한 잉여수계를 이용하여 생산자동화 시스템에서 실시간 물체인식을 위한 디지털 뉴런프로세서의 구현방법을 제안하였다. 설계된 디지털 뉴런프로세서는 잉여수계를 이용한 MAC 연산기와 혼합계수 변환을 이용한 시그모이드 함수 연산부로 구성되며, 설계된 회로는 C언어 및 VHDL로 기술하였고 Compass 툴로 합성하였다. 최종적으로, LG 0.8${\mu}m$ CMOS 공정을 사용하여 Full Custom방식으로 설계를 수행하였다. 실험결과, 가장 나쁜 경로일 경우, 약 19nsec의 지연속도와 0.6ns의 연산속도를 보였고, 기존의 실수 연산기에 비하여 약 1/2배정도 하드웨어 크기를 줄일 수 있었다. 본 논문에서 설계한 디지털 뉴런프로세서는 실시간 처리를 요하는 생산자동화 시스템의 물체인식 시스템에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Discovery of Gene Sources for Economic Traits in Hanwoo by Whole-genome Resequencing

  • Hanwoo, a Korean native cattle (Bos taurus coreana), has great economic value due to high meat quality. Also, the breed has genetic variations that are associated with production traits such as health, disease resistance, reproduction, growth as well as carcass quality. In this study, next generation sequencing technologies and the availability of an appropriate reference genome were applied to discover a large amount of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in ten Hanwoo bulls. Analysis of whole-genome resequencing generated a total of 26.5 Gb data, of which 594,716,859 and 592,990,750 reads covered 98.73% and 93.79% of the bovine reference genomes of UMD 3.1 and Btau 4.6.1, respectively. In total, 2,473,884 and 2,402,997 putative SNPs were discovered, of which 1,095,922 (44.3%) and 982,674 (40.9%) novel SNPs were discovered against UMD3.1 and Btau 4.6.1, respectively. Among the SNPs, the 46,301 (UMD 3.1) and 28,613 SNPs (Btau 4.6.1) that were identified as Hanwoo-specific SNPs were included in the functional genes that may be involved in the mechanisms of milk production, tenderness, juiciness, marbling of Hanwoo beef and yellow hair. Most of the Hanwoo-specific SNPs were identified in the promoter region, suggesting that the SNPs influence differential expression of the regulated genes relative to the relevant traits. In particular, the non-synonymous (ns) SNPs found in CORIN, which is a negative regulator of Agouti, might be a causal variant to determine yellow hair of Hanwoo. Our results will provide abundant genetic sources of variation to characterize Hanwoo genetics and for subsequent breeding.

시흥군(始興郡) 서면일대(西面一帶)의 광화구제구조(鑛化規制構造)와 항공사진해석결과(航空寫眞解析結果)와의 비교연구(比較硏究) (The Study of Structural Control and Relative Photogeological Interpretation on Shiheung Mine Region)

  • One of the biggest sulfide metallic (Cu, Pb, Zn) ore deposits of South Korea is located in the area of Seo-myeon, Shiheung-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Geology of the region is mostly composed of metasediments of biotite schist, graphite schist, injection gneiss, sericite schist, limesilicate and quartzite from bottom, those are applicable to so-called Yeoncheon System of Pre-Cambrian, and granodiorite, quartz porphyry, basic dykes are outcroped in a small scope as intrusives. The origin of the ore deposit is pyrometasomatic contact deposits due to hydrothermal replacement and the ore bodies are imbedded in lower bed of limesilicate formation as impregnation and ore minerals are galena, sphalerite, marmatite, chalcopyrite, bornite, chalcocite, covellite, and the later two minerals are both hypogene and supergene. Gangue minerals are mostly skarn minerals those hornblende, diopside, epidote, hedenbergite, chlorite, garnet and quartz except primary calcite and quartz. Boundary plane (NS strike) between schists and limesilicate seemed to be primary opening of ore solution and fractures bearing $N50^{\circ}{\sim}80^{\circ}W$ are secondary structural control for localization of ore minerals and the third structural controls are both irregular gashes and schistosity in small scale. Photogeological study was carried with vertical aerial photo scaled 1: 38,000 and enlarged 1 : 10,000 under stereoscope. The study on the area convinced the fact that the geologic boundaries between rocks, limesilicates and quartzites, are traced easily by their typical topographic feature and drainage, and the main fracture patterns which derived from the result of fracture traces, that photogeologic lineament observed under stereoscope, are those bearing (1) $N20^{\circ}W$, (2) $N58^{\circ}W$, (3) $N76^{\circ}W$, (4) EW, (5) $N20^{\circ}W$, (6) $N62^{\circ}W$, (7) $N77^{\circ}W$. Among the written fractures, (5) (not schistosity, in case of fault) (6) (7) are post-mineral faults and others are pre-mineral faults and others are pre-mineral structures, and (2) (3) (6) (7) are coincided with statistical figure of 208 fractures surveyed in underground. By the result of the study, mineralized zone, are presumed to extend north and southward, total length about 4km.

양식 강도다리, Platichthys stellatus 및 넙치, Paralichthys olivaceus에서 분리한 marine birnavirus (MABV)의 phylogenetic 분석 (Phylogenetic analysis of marine birnavirus (MABV) isolated from cultured starry flounder Platichthys stellatus and olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in Korea)

  • 경북 울진 지역에서 채집된 양식 강도다리와 충남 태안 및 부산 지역 넙치 시료로부터 분리한 MABV에 대한 유전자 비교를 위해 VP2-NSPhylogenetic VP3 region (432 bp)을 phylogenetic 분석에 이용했다. Sequence 확인 결과 MABV (08-KU)는 일본 방어에서 최초 분리 보고된 YTAV와 98%의 nucleotide 유사성이 나타났으며, 이전 보고된 다 른 여러 strain들과는 76%이상 유사한 것으로 확인되었다. 그리고 MABV (06-KP)와 MABV (08-KC)도 YTAV와 97-98%의 높은 sequence 유사성을 보였다. 또한 다양한 MABV strain들과의 비교를 위해 충남태안 및 부산지역 넙치 시료에서 분리한 MABV (08-KC)와 MABV (06-KP)에 대한 phylogenetic 분석도 실시하였다. 그 결과 분석에 사용된 MABV (08-KU0, MABV (06-KP), MABV (08-KC)는 모두 일본 방어에서 분리된 MABV Y6와 동일한 genogroup VII에 포함 되었다.

TFT 채널층으로 사용하기 위한 IGZO박막의 산소분압에 따른 특성변화

  • 투명 비정질 산화물반도체는 디스플레이의 구동소자인 박막 트랜지스터에 채널층으로 사용된다. 또한 투명하면서 유연성이 있는 소자를 저비용으로 제작할 수 있는 장점을 가진다. 투명 산화물반도체 재료 중 IGZO는 Si 또는 GaAs와 같은 공유결합성 반도체와는 다른 전자 배치로 전도대가 금속이온의 ns 궤도에서 형성되며, 가전도대가 산소 음이온의 2p 궤도에서 형성된다. 특히 큰 반경의 금속 양이온은 인접한 양이온과 궤도 겹침이 크게 발생하게 되며 캐리어의 효과적인 이동 경로를 제공해줌으로써 다른 비정질 반도체와는 다르게 높은 전하이동도(~10 $cm^2$/Vs)를 가진다. 따라서 저온공정에서 우수한 성능의 TFT소자를 제작할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 TFT 채널층으로 사용하기 위한 a-IGZO박막의 산소분압에 따른 특성변화를 분석 하였다. a-IGZO박막은 Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD)를 이용하여 산소분압(20~200 mTorr) 변화에 따라 Glass기판에 증착하였다. 증착된 a-IGZO 박막의 구조적 특성으로는 X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), 광학적 특성은 UV-vis spectroscopy 분석을 통해서 알아보았다. TFT 채널층의 조건으로는 낮은 off-current, 높은 on-off ratio를 위해 고저항 ($10^3\;{\Omega}cm$)의 진성반도체 성질과 source/drain금속과의 낮은 접촉저항(ohmic contact) 등의 전기적 성질이 필요하다. 따라서 이러한 전기적 특성확인을 위해 transmission line method (TLM)을 사용하여 접촉저항과 비저항을 측정하였고, 채널층으로 적합한 분압조건을 확인해볼 수 있었다.

A Study on Blended Inlet Body Design for a High Supersonic Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

  • The design process of blended inlet body (BIB) for the preliminary design of a near-space high supersonic unmanned aerial vehicle (HSUAV) is presented. The mass flow rate and cowl area of inlet at a design point are obtained according to the cruise condition of the HSUAV. A mixed-compression axisymmetric supersonic inlet section with a fixed geometry reasonably matching the high supersonic cruise state is created by using the inviscid theory of aerodynamics. The inlet section is optimized and used as a baseline section for the BIB design. Three BIB concepts for the HSUAV are proposed, and their internal aerodynamic characteristics of inlet are evaluated using Euler computational fluid dynamics (Euler CFD) solver. The preferred concept is identified, in which the straight leading edge of the baseline HSUAV configuration is modified into the convex leading edge to accommodate the inlet and meet the requirements of the cowl area to capture the sufficient air flow. The total recovery of inlet for the preferred BIB concept and the aerodynamic characteristics of the modified HSUAV configuration are verified using Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics (NS CFD) solver. The validation indicates that the preferred BIB concept can meet both the requirements of the inlet and aerodynamic performance of the HSUAV.

자궁경부암 진단용 MR 질내표면코일과 전립선암 진단용 MR 경직장표면코일의 제작 : 인체에서의 MR 영상과 MR 분광 (Endovaginal and Endorectal Surface Coils for in-ViVo Human MR Imaging and Spectroscopy)

  • Endovaginal and endorectal receiver only surface coils were designed for MR imaging (MRI) and $^1H$ MR spectroscopy (MRS) for the uterine cervix and the prostate. The shape of endovaginal coil wire was rectangular with round corner. Size of the coil wire was empirically determined for 7cm and 4cm along the long and short axis, respectively. The coil wire loop was supported by acryl handle and bent about $150^{\circ}$ at one side of the loop considering the average angle of the cervix to the vagina. We called this as a "spoon-type endovaginal coil". The wire of the endorectal coil was made of the flexible materials so that the wire loop became long elliptic shape by pushing the acryl handle into the plastic tube for the comfort of patients when the coil was inserted into the cervix. Then, the shape was maintained to be circle by popping out handle. Conventional spin echo (SE) and fast spin echo (FSE) sequences were used as 71 and 72 weighted imaging sequences, respectively. Matrix size was 128~$256{\times}256$. FOVs for surface coil and body coil were 14cm and 24cm, respectively. 3D volume localized in vivo $^1H$ MR spectroscopy of the human cervix and prostate was performed using PRESS or STEAM localization method with the following parameters . TR=3 sec, TE=135 msec for PRESS or 30 msec for STEAM, NEX=2, NS=48, Sl=2048, and SW=2500 Hz. Using home-built endovaginal and endorectal coils, excellent T1- and T2-images were obtained to visualize early cervical and prostate tumors. 3D volume localized in vivo IH MRS was useful to differentiate the cancerous tissue from the normal tissue.

Influence of Sustain Pulse-width on Electrical Characteristics and Luminous Efficiency in Surface Discharge of AC-PDP

  • Influences of sustain pulse-width on electrical characteristics and luminous efficiency are experimentally investigated for surface discharge of AC-PDP. A square pulse with variable duty ratio and fixed rising time of 300 ns has been used in the experiment. It is found that the memory coefficient is significantly increased at the critical pulse-width. And the wall charges and wall voltages as well as capacitances are experimentally measured by Q- V analysis method along with the voltage margin relation, in terms of the sustain pulse-width in the range of $1{\mu}s$ to $5{\mu}s$ under driving frequency of 10 kHz to 180 kHz. And the luminous efficiency is also experimentally investigated in above range of sustain pulse-width with driving frequency of 10 kHz to 180 kHz. It is noted that the luminous efficiency for 10 kHz and 180 kHz are 1.29 1m/W and 0.68 1m/W respectively, since the power consumption for 10 kHz is much less than that for 180 kHz. It has been concluded that the optimal sustain pulse-width is in the range of $2.5 {\~}4.5{\mu}s$ under driving frequency range of 10 kHz and 60 kHz, and in the range of $1.5 {\~} 2.5{\mu}s$ under driving frequency range of 120 kHz and 180 kHz based on observation of memory coefficient, and wall voltage as well as luminous efficiency.
