  • In this study, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reaction was performed using liqufied petroleum gas (LPG) as a reductant for removing NOx. The catalysts were manufactured with different amounts of Cu and Fe supported on HZSM-5 in order to remove NOx. The NOx conversion ratio was studied with changing the temperature and the catalyst amount. The catalysts were manufactured by calcination with flowing the ambient air at $500^{\circ}C$ for three hours. Cupper of 1~4 wt% and iron of 0.5~2 wt% were supported on HZSM-5 of which Si/Al ratio were 80. According to the reaction results, the catalyst which Cu of 3 wt% supported on HZSM-5 showed the highest conversion rate. XRD, XPS, and TPR analysis were also performed for the characterization of catalysts.

  • Activated hwangtoh (ACT) is a natural resource abundant in South Korea, approximately 15.0% of soil. It is an efficient mineral admixture that has activated pozzolanic properties through high-temperature heating and rapid cooling. The purpose of this study is to improve a curb mixture that can reduce NOx outside and investigate durability performance. To this end, mortar curb specimens were manufactured by replacing OPC with ACT. The ACT substitution ratios of 0.0, 10.0, and 25.0% were considered, and mechanical and durability tests on the curb specimens were conducted at 28 and 91 days of age. Steam curing was carried out for three days for the production of curbs, which was very effective to strength development at early ages. The reduction in strength at early ages could be compensated through this process, and no significant performance degradation was evaluated in the tests on chloride attack, carbonation, and freezing and thawing. The mortar curb with an ACT of 10.0~25.0% replacement ratio exhibited clear NOx reduction through photocatalytic (TiO2) treatment. This is due to the increase in physical absorption through surface absorption and the photocatalyst-containing TiO2 coating. In this study, the reasonable range of the ACT replacement ratio for NOx reduction was quantitatively evaluated through a comprehensive analysis of each test.

  • Since September 2017, a small diesel vehicle certification test mode has been enhanced from NEDC to WLTC. The main reason for the change of the certification test mode is that the certification test mode of the emission control standard of the diesel vehicle does not sufficiently reflect various driving patterns of the actual roads. Several automakers have developed after-treatment systems such as LNT, SCR, and DPF to meet enhanced emissions regulations. In this study, four small diesel cars were selected for sale in Korea, and the exhaust gas measurement test was performed in the WLTC mode, which reflects the driving characteristics of the actual roads. As a result of test, LNT vehicle exceeded Euro 6 NOx regulation and SCR vehicle satisfied Euro 6 NOx regulation. In addition, both LNT and SCR systems showed high NOX emission characteristics due to speed, RPA and Vxa. For the PN, all test vehicles were fitted with a DPF and met the Euro 6 PN regulations, with similar PN emissions results in LNT and SCR system.

  • This paper describes the effects of biodiesel blended fuel on the engine combustion and emission characteristics in a four cylinder CRDI(Common-rail direct injection) diesel engine. In this work, the biodiesel-diesel blended fuel(20% of biodiesel and 80% of ULSD(ultra low sulfur diesel) by volume ratio, BD20) and ULSD fuel are used under the various injection pressures and engine speeds. The experimental results of BD20 and ULSD fuel show that NOx emissions were increased and soot emissions were decreased with the increase of injection pressure. In particular, NOx emissions were slightly increased for the BD20 fuel, however, soot emissions were significantly reduced compared to the ULSD fuel. When the engine speed is increased from 1000rpm to 2000rpm, NOx emissions are decreased at all tested conditions, and soot emissions are largely increased at lower injection pressure.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the analgesic effects of Samultang by measuring the anti-inflammatory and antioxidative activities in formalin-induced orofacial pain. The anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects were measured by western blot analysis for p38 MAPK(Mitogen-activated protein kinases), iNOS(induceble nitric oxide synthase) and NOX4(nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate4) in a rat's brain and medulla oblongata. Samultang significantly attenuated the increased formalin-induced nociceptive response and inhibited the p38 MAPK and iNOS that led to inflammatory pain. In addition, this study indicated that Samultang possess antioxidative effects through the blockade of NOX4. These findings suggest that Samultang plays an important role in the peripheral processing of inflammatory pain in the orofacial area.

  • Particulate matter is divided into PM10 (particle diameter of 10 ㎛ or less) and PM2.5 (particle diameter of 2.5 ㎛ or less), which are approximately 1/5 of the thickness of the hair. Due to its effect on the human body, lung disease, arteriosclerosis and heart It is known as a carcinogen that causes various diseases such as diseases. It is known that the main cause of such fine dust is nitrogen dioxide (NOx), which is emitted from automobiles in about 57.3% of urban roadsides. Therefore, in this study, as part of the development of functional construction materials to reduce NOx generated from road transport pollutants, comparative evaluation of NOx reduction performance was conducted according to the replacement rate of cement mortar in which cement was replaced with a porous material. In addition, the NOx reduction performance of cement mortar according to the photocatalyst application method and the number of applications was compared an d evaluated. As a result of the experiment, when activated ocher was substituted by 30%, it showed a reduction effect of about 32.7%, showing the best reduction performance.

  • Various measures have been tried to reduce the NOx emission from diesel engine, but with partial success because the mechanisms of NOx and PM formations appear to have trade-off relation between each other. Therefore it has been known to be difficult to reduce NOx emission and PM emission simultaneously. Two stage combustion method i,e. a combustion process which has rich combustion stage and lean combustion stage one by one, has been developed successfully to reduce NOx formation in the continuous combustion chambers such as in the boilers. But until yet it is not successful to apply the same method in intermittent combustion chamber like in the diesel engine cylinder, as it was, only several research works were carried out. In this study, devised was a uniquely shaped combustion chamber with reformed piston crown intended to keep fuel-rich condition during early stage of combustion and fuel-lean condition during next stage. It was found that the NOx emission decreased significantly at various conditions of operation with the two stage combustion type engines of PR20 type, but other values such as smoke, CO and specific fuel consumption deteriorated as usual.

  • Design and operation of $1MW_{th}$ pulverized coal combustion testing facility are described. Also the influence of air staging on NOx emission and burnout of coal flames was investigated in this facility. The test facility consisted of coal feeding system, firing system and flue gas treatment system. A top-fired externally air staging burner was adopted in order to avoid influence of gravity on the coal particles and for easy maintenance. Distribution of temperature and chemical species concentration of coal flames could be measured in vertical pass of furnace. Main fuel was pulverized (83.4% less than $80{\mu}m$) Australian high bituminous coal. From variety of test conditions, overall excess air ratio was selected at 1.2(20% excess air). Tho study showed that increasing the staged air resulted in lower NOx omission, and it was suggested to be more than 40% of the total combustion air for the substantial NOx reduction. Sufficient burnout was not achievable when NOx emission was less than 500ppm. Also, the amount of core air did not influence tho NOx reduction.
