In this paper, stress concentration factor and distribution of slotted or notched plate which is subjected to uniaxial tensile load are studied. The experimental measurements have shown the following; (1)The stress around slot or notch of slotted or notched plate which is subjected to uniaxial tensile load is state of biaxial stress, which is mainly varied to notch radius and depth. (2)The stress concentration factor around slot or notch is mainly influenced by the .sigma.$_{yy}$ , it is varied with notch radius and depth. (3)For the notched specimen, there is a notch depth where stress concentration factor is maximum. On the other hand, for the slotted specimen, stress concentration factor increases as the notch depth increases. An investigation of the relationship between fracture and stress concentration factor due to the slot or notch will be presented on the later paper, for reference.

In this study, tensile tests were performed using standard and notched-bar specimens under two different displacement rates and various temperatures, in order to investigate the effects of the stress and strain concentration at the notched section on the dynamic strain aging (DSA) behavior of carbon steel piping material. In addition, finite element simulations were conducted to evaluate quantitatively the stress and strain states for both types of specimen under uniaxial tensile loading. The results showed that serration and an increase in tensile strength, which are considered to be evidence of DSA in carbon steels, can be observed from tensile tests for notched-bar specimens. It was also found that the temperature region of DSA observed in the notched-bar specimens was higher than the DSA region observed in the standard tensile specimens tested under the same displacement rate. The results of finite element analysis showed that this behavior is associated with the high strain rate at the notched section, which is caused by the stress and strain concentration.

The purpose of this study is to establish the fatigue design criteria for the notched structural components subjected to high mean stress. In order to do it, the effects of stress concentration factor on the monotonic and cyclic tensile properties were investigated. Based on the results, two fatigue design approaches for the notched specimen using Goodman diagram was established and verified by comparing with the experimental result.

This study presents the hydrogen emblittlement in the metal, which decreases the ductility and then induces the brittle fracture. The contribution deals with the effect of strain rate and notch geometry on hydrogen emblittlement of 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 2.25Cr-1Mo steels, which are in use at high pressure vessel. Smooth and notched specimens were examined to obtain the elongation and tensile strength. For charging the hydrogen in the metal, the cathodic electrolytic method was used. In this process, current density is maintained constant. The amount of hydrogen penetrated in the specimen was detected by the hydrogen determenator(LECO RH404) with the various charging time. The distribution of hydrogen concentration penetrated in the specimen was obtained by finite element analysis. The amount of hydrogen is high in smooth specimen and tends to concentrate in the vicinity of surface. The elongation and tensile strength decreased with the passage of charging time in 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 2.25Cr-1Mo steels. The elongation increased and tensile strength decreased as strain rate increased. As a result of this study, it is supposed that 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel is more sensitive than 2.25Cr-lMo steel in hydrogen embrittlement. Hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of notched specimen after hydrogen charging is more remarkable than that of smooth specimen.
The effect of applied stress, current density and heat-treatment after welding on the time to fracture, fracture behavior was investigated by the method of constant load tensile testing under catholic charging with hydrogen in E.B. welded 250,300 Grade 18% Ni Maraging steel sheet. The main results obtained are as follows: 1. All specimen showed the characteristic delayed failure and the time to fracture showed decreasing tendency with the increase in current density and applied stress. 2. Hydrogen embitterment susceptibility of notched specimen after solution-treatment and aging after welding was more increased than that of aged smooth specimen and as welded specimen. 3. Fracture surface showed a typical intergranular fracture on the border, a dimple pattern in the center of specimen and some quasi-cleavage fracture between the intergranular and the dimple.
The aim of this work is conduct the study on light weight and structural performance improvement of the composite wind power blade. GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) pre-empted by CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic), the major material of wind power blade, was identified the superiority of mechanical performance through the tensile and fatigue test. SENT(Single Edge Notched Tension) specimen fracture test was conducted on the specimen that laminated together 2 ply CFRP with 4 ply GFRP through DIC(Digital Image Correlation) analysis. The SENT specimen thickness and $a_0/W$ ratio is 1.45 mm and 0.2, respectively. The fracture test accomplished with displacement control with 0.1 mm/min at the room temperature. The experimental apparatus used for the fracture test consisted of a 50kN universal dynamic tester and CCD camera connected to a personal computer (PC), which was used to record images of the specimen surface. Following data acquisition, the images and load-displacements were transferred to the PC, on which the DIC software was implement. The experiment and DIC analysis results show that CFRP/GFRP laminated composite exhibits improvement of the strength, compared with that of the existing blade material. This study shows the result that the strength of CFRP rotor blade of wind turbine satisfies through the experimental and DIC method.

In the last few years, ductile fracture criteria based on various hypotheses have been developed and utilized with FEM to predict forming failure. The accurate deformation analysis by the FEM and the decision of damage parameters are the most important factors in these approaches. In this paper, several conventional integral forms of fracture criteria were introduced and the test method to determine damage parameters by using notched specimen was suggested. Based on the results, damage parameters obtained under the different stress system (tensile and compression) are compared and analyzed.

The size effect of axial compressive strength of concrete in notched specimens was experimentally investigated. Based on the concept of the fracture mechanics and size effect law, theoretical studies for axial compressive failure of concrete were reviewed, and two failure modes of concrete specimen under compression were discussed. In this study, experiment of axial compressive failure, which is one of the two failure modes, was carried out by using double cantilever fracture specimens. By varying the slenderness of cantilevers and the eccentricity of applied loads with respect to the axis of each cantilever, the size effect of axial compressive strength of concrete was investigated, and predicted by Bazant's size effect law. The test results show that size effect appears conspicuously for all series of specimens. For the eccentricity of loads, the influence of tensile and compressive stress at the notch tip are significant and so that the size effect is varied. In other words, if the influence of tensile stress at the notch tip grows up, the size effect of concrete increases. And the fact that the fracture process zone must be sufficiently secured for more accurate experiment was affirmed.
The fracture behavior of plain woven glass/epoxy composite plates with a crack is investigated under static tensile loading. It is shown in this paper that the characteristic length associated with the point stress criterion depends on the crack length. To predict the not ched tensile strength, the point stress criterion proposed by Whitney and Nuismer are modified. An excellent agreement is found between the experimental results and the analytical prediction of the modified point stress criterion. The condition of unstable crack growth in the presence of a per-existing flaw(machined notch) is examined by means of the maximum stress intensity factor $K_max$ using maximumload P$_max$. The values of $K_max$ evaluated from energy release rate G$_max$(the compliance me thod) indicate a wide difference. Therefore in regard to anisotropy and heterogeneity of the composite materials studied, the modified shape correction factor f(a/W) is obtained. $K_max$evaluated by the compliance method a little or insignificantly depends on the initial crack length a, the specimen thickness B, the crack angle .theta. and the specimen geometry.
In this study, a cyclic tensile test on a notched butterfly specimen made of woven glass fiber composite was performed on a modified Arcan fixture. During the mechanical test, the sample was monitored with a hybrid stereoscopic system comprised of two visible lights and one infrared camera. The visible light cameras were employed for kinematic measurements using a finite-element-based multiview correlation technique. A semi-hybrid correlation approach was followed, providing Lagrangian temperature fields of the Region of Interest. Due to the complex composite architecture and specimen shape, localized shearing was observed during the tensile loading. Furthermore, asymmetrical damage developed around the notches as revealed by localized strains and thermal hot spots.
