Most methods for fusion-based finger vein recognition were to fuse different features or matching scores from more than one trait to improve performance. To overcome the shortcomings of "the curse of dimensionality" and additional running time in feature extraction, in this paper, we propose a finger vein recognition technology based on matching score-level fusion of a single trait. To enhance the quality of finger vein image, the contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) method is utilized and it improves the local contrast of normalized image after ROI detection. Gabor features are then extracted from eight channels based on a bank of Gabor filters. Instead of using the features for the recognition directly, we analyze the contributions of Gabor feature from each channel and apply a weighted matching score-level fusion rule to get the final matching score, which will be used for the last recognition. Experimental results demonstrate the CLAHE method is effective to enhance the finger vein image quality and the proposed matching score-level fusion shows better recognition performance.

Night-time image quality evaluation is an urgent requirement in visual inspection. The lighting environment of night-time results in low brightness, low contrast, loss of detailed information, and colour dissonance of image, which remains a daunting task of delicately evaluating the image quality at night. A new blind quality assessment metric is presented for realistic night-time scenario through a comprehensive consideration of contrast, texture, and colour in this article. To be specific, image blocks' color-gray-difference (CGD) histogram that represents contrast features is computed at first. Next, texture features that are measured by the mean subtracted contrast normalized (MSCN)-weighted local binary pattern (LBP) histogram are calculated. Then statistical features in Lαβ colour space are detected. Finally, the quality prediction model is conducted by the support vector regression (SVR) based on extracted contrast, texture, and colour features. Experiments conducted on NNID, CCRIQ, LIVE-CH, and CID2013 databases indicate that the proposed metric is superior to the compared BIQA metrics.
This paper proposes a region segmenting method for the Pap-smear image. The proposed method uses a pixel classifier based on neural network, which consists of four stages : preprocessing, feature extraction, region segmentation and postprocessing. In the preprocessing stage, brightness value is normalized by histogram stretching. In the feature extraction stage, total 36 features are extracted from $3{\times}3$ or $5{\times}5$ window. In the region segmentation stage, each pixel which is associated with 36 features, is classified into 3 groups : nucleus, cytoplasm and background. The backpropagation network is used for classification. In the postprocessing stage, the pixel, which have been rejected by the above classifier, are re-classified by the relaxation algorithm. It has been shown experimentally that the proposed method finds the nucleus region accurately and it can find the cytoplasm region too.

In the context of additive noise steganography model, we propose a method to detect least significant bit (LSB) matching steganography in grayscale images. Images are decomposed into detail sub-bands with local linear transform (LLT) masks which are sensitive to embedding. Novel normalized characteristic function features weighted by a bank of band-pass filters are extracted from the detail sub-bands. A suboptimal feature set is searched by using a threshold selection algorithm. Extensive experiments are performed on four diverse uncompressed image databases. In comparison with other well-known feature sets, the proposed feature set performs the best under most circumstances.
Numerical simulations of supersonic impinging jet flows are carried out using the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes code. This paper focuses on the oscillatory flow features associated with the variation of the nozzle pressure ratio and nozzle-to-plate distance. Frequencies of the surface pressure oscillation from computational results are in accord with the measured impinging tones for various cases of nozzle-to-plate distance. The variation of this frequency with distance show a staging behavior. Computed results for the case of nozzle pressure ratio variation for a fixed nozzle-to-plate distance also demonstrate a staging behavior. These two seemingly different staging behaviors are found to obey the same frequency-distance characteristics when the frequency and the distance are normalized by using the length of the shock cell.
C. elegans often used to study of function of gene, but it is difficult for human observation to distinguish the mutants of C. elegans. To solve this problem, the system, which can be classified automatically using the computer vision, is studying now. In the previous works , they described the auto-tracking system and the egg-laying timing modeling, which are used to automated-classily system. In this paper, we use three kinds of features, which are related to movement , size and posture of the worm, and each feature is described mathematically and normalized. In experimental result, we validated the features for the hierarchical clustering, And we used the Calinski and Harabasz's method to find the appropriate cluster number.

There are some problems in network traffic classification (NTC), such as complicated statistical features and insufficient training samples, which may cause poor classification effect. A NTC architecture based on one-dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and transfer learning is proposed to tackle these problems and improve the fine-grained classification performance. The key points of the proposed architecture include: (1) Model classification--by extracting normalized rate feature set from original data, plus existing statistical features to optimize the CNN NTC model. (2) To apply transfer learning in the classification to improve NTC performance. We collect two typical network flows data from Youku and YouTube, and verify the proposed method through extensive experiments. The results show that compared with existing methods, our method could improve the classification accuracy by around 3-5%for Youku, and by about 7 to 27% for YouTube.

In this paper, we proposed a good classifier to match different spatial data sets by applying evaluation of classifiers performance in data mining and biometrics. For this, we calculated distances between a pair of candidate features for matching criteria, and normalized the distances by Min-Max method and Tanh (TH) method. We defined classifiers that shape similarity is derived from fusion of these similarities by CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) method, Matcher Weighting method and Simple Sum (SS) method. As results of evaluation of classifiers performance by Precision-Recall (PR) curve and area under the PR curve (AUC-PR), we confirmed that value of AUC-PR in a classifier of TH normalization and SS method is 0.893 and the value is the highest. Therefore, to match different spatial data sets, we thought that it is appropriate to a classifier that distances of matching criteria are normalized by TH method and shape similarity is calculated by SS method.

In this paper, we propose the novel video retrieval algorithm using non-parametric based motion classification in the shot-based video indexing structure. The proposed system firstly gets the key frame and motion information from each shot segmented by scene change detection method, and then extracts visual features and non-parametric based motion information from them. Finally, we construct real-time retrieval system supporting similarity comparison of these spatio-temporal features. After the normalized motion vector fields is created from MPEG compressed stream, the extraction of non-parametric based motion feature is effectively achieved by discretizing each normalized motion vectors into various angle bins, and considering a mean, a variance, and a direction of these bins. We use the edge-based spatial descriptor to extract the visual feature in key frames. Experimental evidence shows that our algorithm outperforms other video retrieval methods for image indexing and retrieval. To index the feature vectors, we use R*-tree structures.
Speech recognition, the problem of performance degradation is the difference between the model training and recognition environments. Silence features normalized using the method as a way to reduce the inconsistency of such an environment. Silence features normalized way of existing in the low signal-to-noise ratio. Increase the energy level of the silence interval for voice and non-voice classification accuracy due to the falling. There is a problem in the recognition performance is degraded. This paper proposed a robust speech detection method in noisy environments using a silence feature normalization and voice energy maximize. In the high signal-to-noise ratio for the proposed method was used to maximize the characteristics receive less characterized the effects of noise by the voice energy. Cepstral feature distribution of voice / non-voice characteristics in the low signal-to-noise ratio and improves the recognition performance. Result of the recognition experiment, recognition performance improved compared to the conventional method.
