  • In this study, techniques of adaptive input-output linearizing control of a class of uncertain nonlinear system are investigated. It is shown through concepts of signal growth rates that bounded trackings yield by adaptive input-output linearizing control law using normalized estimator. The convergence characteristics are improved significantly by using the normalized estimator. Simple example is presented as illustration.

  • Eigenstructure of a spatial design matrix of Matheron's variogram estimator in $R^1$ is derived. It is shown that the spatial design matrix in $R^1$ with n/2$\le$h < n has a nice spectral decomposition. The mean, variance, and covariance of this estimator are obtained using the eigenvalues of a spatial design matrix. We also found that the lower bound and the upper bound of the normalized Matheron's variogram estimator.

  • In this paper, the hop-timing estimator, which NED and ELF are adopted to, has been proposed. The estimation performance of the proposed scheme and the conventional scheme is compared through computer simulations. The simulation results show that the new system has less hop-timing error than the conventional system in partial band noise jamming channel. The lover Eb/Nj and ratio of jamming bandwidth(rho) we, the bigger performance enhancement of the proposed system is.

  • The purpose of this paper is to detect and identify topological errors in order to maintain a reliable database for the state estimator. In this paper, a two stage estimation procedure is used to identify the topology errors. At the first stage, the WSAV state estimator which has characteristics to remove bad data during the estimation procedure is run for finding out the suspected branches at which topology errors take place. The resulting residuals are normalized and the measurements with significant normalized residuals are selected. A set of suspected branches is formed based on these selected measurements; if the selected measurement is a line flow, the corresponding branch is suspected; if it is an injection, then all the branches connecting the injection bus to its immediate neighbors are suspected. A new WLAV state estimator adding the branch flow errors in the state vector is developed to identify the branch topology errors. Sample cases of single topology error and topology error with a measurement error are applied to IEEE 14 bus test system.

  • A problem of estimating the means of Poisson populations using independent samples is considered. The total loss is the sum of component, normalized squared error losses. An empirical Bayes estimator is derived and compared, by Monte Carlo methods, with existing estimators which are proposed as improving estimators upon the usual one. Monte Carlo results show that the performance of the derived estimator is satisfactory over the whole parameter space.

  • In this paper, we derive the approximate maximum likelihood estimators of the shape parameter and the scale parameter in a Weibull distribution under multiply Type-II censoring by the approximate maximum likelihood estimation method. We develop three modified empirical distribution function type tests for the Weibull distribution based on multiply Type-II censored samples. We also propose modified normalized sample Lorenz curve plot and new test statistic.

  • We propose the modified quantile-quantile (Q-Q) plot using the approximate maximum likelihood estimators and the modified normalized sample Lorenz curve (NSLC) plot for the extreme value distribution based on multiply Type-II censored samples. Using two example data sets, we picture the modified Q-Q plot and the modified NSLC plot.

  • In this paper, we propose a subcarrier allocation method and a composite linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) channel estimator to increase spectrum efficiency in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmit diversity. The pilot symbols for OFDM transmit (Alamouti) diversity are exclusively allocated in two OFDM symbols in different antennas, which causes serious degradation of spectrum efficiency. To reduce the number of pilot symbols, our subcarrier allocation method uses repetition-coded data symbols, and the proposed channel estimator maintains good bit error rate (BER) performance.

  • In this paper, we propose the modified uniformly most powerful (UMP) belief-propagation (BP)-based decoding algorithm which utilizes multiplicative and additive factors to diminish the errors introduced by the approximation of the soft values given by a previously proposed UMP BP-based algorithm. This modified UMP BP-based algorithm shows better performance than that of the normalized UMP BP-based algorithm, i.e., it has an error performance closer to BP than that of the normalized UMP BP-based algorithm on the additive white Gaussian noise channel for low density parity check codes. Also, this algorithm has the same complexity in its implementation as the normalized UMP BP-based algorithm.

  • A single channel adaptive noise canceling (ANC) technique with a recursive time delay estimator (RTDE) is presented for removing effects of additive noise on the speech signal. While the conventional method makes a reference signal for the adaptive filter using the pitch estimated on a frame basis from the input speech, the proposed method makes the reference signal using the delay estimated recursively on a sample-by-sample basis. As the RTDEs, the recursion formulae of autocorrelation function (ACF) and average magnitude difference function (AMDF) are derived. The normalized least mean square (NLMS) and recursive least square (RLS) algorithms are applied for adaptation of filter coefficients. Experimental results with noisy speech demonstrate that the proposed method improves the perceived speech quality as well as the signal-to-noise ratio and cepstral distance when compared with the conventional method.
