A curvature method for beam-column with different materials and arbitrary cross-section shapes

  • This paper presents a curvature method for analysis of beam-columns with different materials and arbitrary cross-section shapes and subjected to combined biaxial moments and axial load. Both material and geometric nonlinearities (the p-delta effect in this case) were incorporated. The proposed method considers biaxial curvatures and uniform normal strains of discrete cross-sections of beam-columns as basic unknowns, and seeks for a solution of the column deflection curve that satisfies force equilibrium conditions. A piecewise representation of the beam-column deflection curve is constructed based on the curvatures and angles of rotation of the segmented cross-sections. The resulting bending moments were evaluated based on the deformed column shape and the axial load. The moment curvature relationship and the beam-column deflection calculation are presented in matrix form and the Newton-Raphson method is employed to ensure fast and stable convergence. Comparison with results of analytic solutions and eccentric compression tests of wood beam-columns implies that this method is reliable and effective for beam-columns subjected to eccentric compression load, lateral bracings and complex boundary conditions.

B-스플라인 곡선의 기하특성을 이용한 형상 옵셋 (2) -제어다각형 옵셋에서 발생하는 루프의 제거에 대한 연구- (Shape offsetting using the geometric properties of B-spline curves(2) - A Study on the removal of loops in control polygon offsetting -)

  • The offsetting method using geometric properties of B-spline control polygon is more faster than using of general normal vector in offset processing. But this method itself does not solve the prob¬lems of loop removal in normal offsetting. Generally the distance between neighborhood spans of B-spline control polygon is greater than the offset distance, the loops are occurred in offsetting. For generating of the more precision tool-path in NC machining, the loops of offset must be removed. In this paper, two methods for loop removal are introduced in offsetting of B-spline curve. One is using the intersection of B-spline control span which being occurred of the loop. The other is using two B-spline curve divisions divided from original B-spline curve or its offset curve. After the inter¬section point of loop was searched, the loop being removed to cusp. Also the method for filleting of cusp is inspected to more precision cutting. It is shown that the offsetting using B-spline control polygon is more effective in the sculptured surface machining.

간선도로 좌곡선부 전후구간 수막현상 방지를 위한 종·횡단경사 조합 적용방안 (A Method of Compounding Application of Longitudinal Grade and Superelevation on Left Curved Section in Arterial for Preventing Hydroplaning)

  • PURPOSES : This study aims to evaluate the road safety of the super-elevation transition section of a left turn curve and suggest the minimum longitudinal grade of a super-elevation transition section to be used before and after a left curved section. METHODS : We evaluated the road condition by means of the safety-criterion-evaluation method involving side friction factors, and then solve the problem by introducing the minimum longitudinal grade criterion based on conditions described in the hydraulics literature. RESULTS : It was calculated that when a road satisfies hydroplaning conditions, the difference between side friction assumed and side friction demanded is less than -0.04. In this case, the safety criterion for the condition is unsatisfied. Conversely, when a road is in a normal state under either wet or dry conditions, it was calculated that the difference between side friction assumed and side friction demanded is more than 0.01. Thus, the safety criterion for this condition is found to be satisfied. After adjusting the minimum longitudinal grade applied to a super-elevation transition section, the hydroplaning condition can be eliminated and the safety criterion can be met for all sections. CONCLUSIONS : It is suggested that a minimum longitudinal grade should be provided on super-elevation transition sections in order to prevent hydroplaning.

제 1대구치와 제 2유구치의 교합면 양상에 관한 연구 (A STUDY FOR OCCLUSAL FEATURES OF FIRST PERMANENT MOLAR AND SECOND PRIMARY MOLAR)

  • 형태학적으로 아주 유사한 상, 하악 제2유구치와 제1대구치의 교합면 형태를 분석하고자 정상교합의 유치열기 아동(Hellman dental age II A) 100명(남자 50명, 여자 50명)과 영구치열기의 성인(Hellman dental age IV A) 86명 (남자 43명, 여자 43명)을 대상으로 하였다. 상, 하악 제2유구치와 제 1대구치의 상, 하악 석고모형의 3차원 형상 data로부터 각 교두정간 거리, 교두정을 최소한의 오차로 지나는 평면과 교합면사이의 체적, 평면에서 교두정간 까지의 방향별 Section curve를 구하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 형성된 표준평면과 각 교두정과의 거리에 관한 오차는 하악 제2유구치에서 남자 0.05-0.09mm, 여자 0.04-0.09mm로서 제일 작았다. 2. 각 교두정간의 거리는 하악 제2유구치와 제 1대구치 에서 남자가 크게 나타났다. 특히 제2 유구치에서는 유의성이 존재하였다(p<0.05). 3. 남녀 모두에서 사주 교두거리를 제외하고, 상악 제2유구치는 원심 협측교두와 설측교두 사이가, 하악 제2유구치는 원심교두와 원심 설측교두 사이가, 상악 제1대구치는 근심 설측교두와 협측교두 사이가, 하악 제1대구치는 원심 설측교두와 근심 설측교두 사이의 거리가 가장 크게 측정되었다. 4. 제2유구치와 제1대구치에서 교합면 체적은 하악에서 크게 나타났고, 영구치가 1.40-1.75배 값을 보였으며(p<0.05), 남녀간에는 남자가 큰 값을 보이긴 하였지만 통계적인 유의성이 없었다. 5. 대부분의 경우 유치열에서 보다 영구치열에서 section curve가 넓고 깊었으며 교두사이의 사선거리를 제외하고 상악의 경우 근심 협측과 설측교두 사이에서 유치열과 영구치열 모두에서 가장 깊은 section curve를 이루었으며 하악에서는 영구치열은 원심 협측과 원심교두사이 유치열은 원심 설측과 원심교두 사이에서 가장 깊은 section curve를 이루었다.

G. C에 있어서 비선형축의 표현 (A Representation of the Nonlinear Axis in the G. C)

  • 본 논문에서는 단면(cross section)이 원(circle)인 곡면물체를 처리하는 방법인 G.C표현에 있어서 필요한 축방정식과 반경함수를 구하는 방법을 제안한다. 우선 입력으로 들어온 깊이 데이터에서 clustering을 통해 선형축을 가지고 있는 부분과 비선형축을 가지는 부분을 분리하였으며 각 표면마스크조각(surface mask patch)들의 법선 벡터를 통하여 축상의 점들을 추출하였다. 또한 추출된 축상의 점들이 비선형인 경우 Hermite 곡선으로 축방정식을 표현하였으며 본 논문의 유용성을 실험에 의하여 입증하였다.

Effects of the Chicken Sex-linked Dwarf Gene on Growth and Muscle Development

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the effects on growth and muscle development during the growing period of the sex-linked dwarf gene in the background of a Taiwan Country chicken strain, L2, selected for egg production. Eight crossbred males, heterozygous for the DW*DW mutation, were each backcrossed to six females of the L2 strain to produce two genotypes of BC females, either normal (DW*N+/-) or dwarf (DW*DW/-). The experiment included 251 normal and 207 dwarf pullets. The effect of the dwarf gene on body weight and shank length was highly significant from 2 weeks of age. The reduction of body weight by the dwarf gene reached 34.8% and 37.4% as compared to normal sibs at 16 and 20 weeks of age, respectively. Parameters of the growth curve were estimated: the age at inflection (TI) was higher in normal pullets (66.9 days) than in dwarf pullets (61.2 days). A significant effect of the dwarf gene on single muscle fiber cross-section area was found from 12 weeks of age onwards, whereas the dwarf gene had no effect on the total number of muscle fibers. Comparing the effect of the dwarf gene on shank length at different ages revealed an earlier effect on skeleton growth, observed from 2 weeks of age, than on muscle development, which was affected from 8 to 12 weeks of age.

Thermal stress intensity factor solutions for reactor pressure vessel nozzles

  • To ensure the safety margin of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) under normal operating conditions, it is regulated through the pressure-temperature (P-T) limit curve. The stress intensity factor (SIF) obtained by the internal pressure and thermal load should be obtained through crack analysis of the nozzle corner crack in advance to generate the P-T limit curve for the nozzle. In the ASME code Section XI, Appendix G, the SIF via the internal pressure for the nozzle corner crack is expressed as a function of the cooling or heating rate, and the wall thickness, however, the SIF via the thermal load is presented as a polynomial format based on the stress linearization analysis results. Inevitably, the SIF can only be obtained through finite element (FE) analysis. In this paper, simple prediction equations of the SIF via the thermal load under, cool-down and heat-up conditions are presented. For the Korean standard nuclear power plant, three geometric variables were set and 72 cases of RPV models were made, and then the heat transfer analysis and thermal stress analysis were performed sequentially. Based on the FE results, simple engineering solutions predicting the value of thermal SIF under cool-down and heat-up conditions are suggested.

평형해법에 의한 스탬핑 공정의 단면 해석 (Sectional analysis of stamping processes using Equilibrium approach)

  • An equilibrium approach is suggested as an effective tool for the analysis of sheet metal forming processes on the basis of force balance together with geometric relations and plasticity theroy. In computing a force balance equation, it is required to define a geometric curve approximating the shape of the sheet metal at any step of deformation from the geometric interaction between the die and the deforming sheet. Then the geometic informations for contacting and non-contacting sections of the sheet metal such as the number and length of both non-contact region, contact angle, and die radius of contact section are known from the geometric forming curve and utilized for optimization by force balance equation. In computation, the sheet material is assumed to be of normal amisotropy and rigid-phastic workhardening. It has been shown that there are good agreements between the equilibrium approach and FEM computation for the benchmark test example and auto-body panels whose sections can be assumed in plane-strain state. The proposed equilibrium approach can thus be used as a robust computational method in estimating the forming defects and forming severity rather quickly in the die design stage.

그래픽스 하드웨어를 이용한 스윕 곡면의 렌더링 (Rendering of Sweep Surfaces using Programmable Graphics Hardware)

  • 본 논문에서는 그래픽스 하드웨어를 이용한 스윕 곡면의 효율적인 렌더링 알고리즘을 제안한다. 스윕 곡면은 스플라인 모션을 따라 움직이는 단면 곡선으로 표현된다. 이러한 표현은 행렬과 벡터의 곱으로 계산되며, 이는 프로그래밍이 가능한 그래픽스 하드웨어에 쉽게 적용될 수 있다. 스플라인 모션과 단면 곡선의 정보는 텍스쳐 메모리에 저장된다. 그래픽스 하드웨어의 정점 프로세서는 두 개의 곡면 매개변수를 2차원 정점으로 입력받아 한 번의 행렬 곱셈으로 스윕 곡면의 정점 좌표와 법선 벡터를 계산한다. 제안한 GPU 기반 스윕 곡면의 렌더링은 CPU 기반 렌더링에 비해 10배에서 40배 정도의 속도 향상을 보였다.
