Advanced spent fuel Conditioning Process(ACP) project which is under development for efficient spent fuel management has finished process feasibility study and is preparing $\alpha$-${\gamma}$ type hot cell construction for process experimentation. Radiation dose evaluation for the radioactive nuclides were preliminarily performed for normal operation and accident case with the basic concept design report, the meteorological data and the recent site specific data. According to the production and release rate of nuclides, dose evaluations for residents around facility were performed. The evaluation result shows a safe margin for regulation limits and SAR(Safety Analysis Report) limit of IMEF(Irradiated Material Examination Facility) where this facility will be constructed.
Cutting process has been automated due to progress of CNC and CAD/CAM, but polishing process has been only depended on experiential knowledge of expert. Polishing work for a curved surface die demands simple and repetitive operations but requires much time for its high precision. Therefore it is operated in the handiwork by skilled worker. However the workers intend to avoid gradually polishing work because of the poor environments such as dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and solve the problem of shortage of skilled workers, it has been done some research for an automation of polishing. To automate the polishing process, a 2 axes polishing robot which is attached to a 3 axes machining center has been developed by our previous research. This automatic polishing robot is able to keep the polishing tool normal on the curved surface of die. Therefore its performance of polishing is improved because of always keeping the tool normal on the surface. In this paper, the smaller sized polishing robot is developed to improve polishing performance. And the controller for 2 axes polishing robot is developed. The controller is composed of TMS320C31 with high speed which is 40-ns instruction cycle time, RAM memory with 64K words, digital input with 64 bits, digital output with 32 bits, and D/A converter with 4 channels, which is 12 bits resolution. To evaluate polishing performance of this developed robot, polishing experiment for shadow mask was carried out.
EAF(Electric Arc Furnace) Dust classified as special wastes containing heavy metal contaminants may cause to damage an environment such as underground water contamination if they were not treated properly. The possibility of producing the porous sintered body made from EAF Dust/clay composition system was studied. Mixing of EAF Dust and clay was carried out using wet-mixing process and two different sintering methods such as rapid and normal heat treatment were tried. By observing density, porosity and microstructure of sintered bodies, it was found that the bloating phenomenon depend on the contents of C, where the liquid phase occur or not during the sintering process. To obtain a light-aggregate of porous body due to bloating, the rapid heating was better than the normal heating at sintering process.
During the manufacturing process of a printed circuit board(PCB), fumes and mists are generated as the ink dries on the PCB surface. The generated fumes and mists are deposited in the dryer wall and the exhaust duct. Deposited fumes and mists may present a fire hazard if the dryer temperature control system fails. In this study, the thermal stability of the fumes and mists deposited in the dryer and ducts has been analyzed by experimental methods such as thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), auto ignition temperature (AIT), and multiple mode calorimetry(MMC). According to the experimental analyses, experimental samples are likely to generate gas at the temperature ($180{\sim}240^{\circ}C$) that deviates from the normal operating temperature ($150{\sim}156^{\circ}C$). It has been shown that the thermal stability is degraded when the temperature is deviated from the normal operating temperature. In the end, engineering and management safety measures of accidental prevention have been suggested.

The fetal central nervous system (CNS) is sensitive to diverse environmental factors, such as alcohol, heavy metals, irradiation, mycotoxins, neurotransmitters, and DNA damage, because a large number of processes occur during an extended period of development. Fetal neural damage is an important issue affecting the completion of normal CNS development. As many concepts about the brain development have been recently revealed, it is necessary to compare the mechanism of developmental abnormalities induced by extrinsic factors with the normal brain development. To clarify the mechanism of fetal CNS damage, we used one experimental model in which 5-azacytidine (5AZC), a DNA damaging and demethylating agent, was injected to the dams of rodents to damage the fetal brain. 5AzC induced cell death (apoptosis)and cell cycle arrest in the fetal brain, and it lead to microencephaly in the neonatal brain. We investigated the mechanism of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in the neural progenitor cells in detail, and demonstrated that various cell cycle regulators were changed in response to DNA damage. p53, the guardian of genome, played a main role in these processes. Further, using DNA microarray analysis, tile signal cascades of cell cycle regulation were clearly shown. Our results indicate that neural progenitor cells have the potential to repair the DNA damages via cell cyclearrest and to exclude highly affected cells through the apoptotic process. If the stimulus and subsequent DNA damage are high, brain development proceeds abnormally and results in malformation in the neonatal brain. Although the mechanisms of fetal brain injury and features of brain malformation afterbirth have been well studied, the process between those stages is largely unknown. We hypothesized that the fetal CNS has the ability to repair itself post-injuring, and investigated the repair process after 5AZC-induced damage. Wefound that the damages were repaired by 60 h after the treatment and developmental processes continued. During the repair process, amoeboid microglial cells infiltrated in the brain tissue, some of which ingested apoptotic cells. The expressions of genes categorized to glial cells, inflammation, extracellular matrix, glycolysis, and neurogenesis were upregulated in the DNA microarray analysis. We show here that the developing brain has a capacity to repair the damage induced by the extrinsic stresses, including changing the expression of numerous genes and the induction of microglia to aid the repair process.
The fungal products dibenzodioxocinones promise a novel class of inhibitors against cholesterol ester transfer protein (CEPT). Knowledge as to their biosynthesis is scarce. In this report, we characterized four more dibenzodioxocinones, which along with a previously described member pestalotiollide B, delimit the dominant spectrum of secondary metabolites in P. microspora. Through mRNA-seq profiling in $g{\alpha}1{\Delta}$, a process that halts the production of the dibenzodioxocinones, a gene cluster harboring 21 genes including a polyketide synthase, designated as pks8, was defined. Disruption of genes in the cluster led to loss of the compounds, concluding the anticipated role in the biosynthesis of the chemicals. The biosynthetic route to dibenzodioxocinones was temporarily speculated. This study reveals the genetic basis underlying the biosynthesis of dibenzodioxocinone in fungi, and may facilitate the practice for yield improvement in the drug development arena.

In this paper the technique to predict tool wear theoretically in shearing process is suggested. The tool wear in the process affects the tolerances of final pans, metal flows and costs of processes. In order to predict the tool wear the deformation of workpiece during the process is analyzed by using non-isothermal finite element program. The ductile fracture criterion and the element kill method are also used to estimate if and where a fracture will occur and to investigate the features of the sheared surface in shearing process. Results obtained from finite element simulation, such as nodal velocities and nodal forces, are transformed into sliding velocity and normal pressure on tool monitoring points respectively. The monitoring points are automatically generated and the wear rates on these points are accumulated during the process. It is assumed that the wear depth on the tool surface is linear function of the lot sizes based upon the known experimental results. The influence of clearance between die and punch upon tool wear is also discussed.
Consider a supercritical Bellman-Harris process evolving from one particle. We superimpose on this process the additional structure of movement. A particle whose parent was at x at its time of birth moves until it dies according to a given Markov process X starting at x. The motions of different particles are assumed independent. In this paper we show that when the movement process X is standard Brownian the proportion of particles with position $\leq${{{{ SQRT { t} }}}} b and age$\leq$a tends with probability 1 to A(a)$\Phi$(b) where A(.) and $\Phi$(.) are the stable age distribution and standard normal distribution, respectively. We also extend this result to the case when the movement process is a Levy process.
The process capability indices have been widely used to measure process capability and performance. In this paper, we proposed a new process capability index which is based on an actual dollar loss by defects. The new index is similar to the Taguchi's loss function and fully incorporates the distribution of quality attribute in a process. The strength of the index is to apply itself to non-normal or asymmetric distributions. Numerical examples were presented to show superiority of the new index against $C_p$, $C_{pk}$, and $C_{pm}$ which are the most widely used process capability indices.
There are several models for process quality assurance by quality system (ISO 9000), process capability analysis, acceptance control chart and so on. When a high level process capability has been achieved, it takes a long time to monitor the process shift, so it is sometimes necessary to develop a quicker monitoring system. To achieve a quicker quality assurance model for high-reliability process, this paper presents a model for process quality assurance when the fraction nonconforming is very small. We design an acceptance control chart based on variable quality characteristic and time-censored accelerated testing. The distribution of the characteristics is assumed to be normal or lognormal with a location parameter of the distribution that is a linear function of a stress. The design parameters are sample size, control limits and sample proportions allocated to low stress. These paramaters are obtained under minimization of the relative variance of the MLE of location parameter subject to APL and RPL constraints.
