The purpose of this study was to help the consumer about the care of nonwoven fabrics by investigation of the properties such as launderability. shrinkage, color fastness and strenth. Materials used were two types, soft and stiff, of commercial nonwoven fabrics. Deter-gents used were neutral detergents, synthetic detergents and dry cleaning solutions(perch-toro-ethylene) The results of this study were summerized as follows; 1. Laundering of nonwoven fabrics in low temperature is more ideal as morphological changes by laundering in high temperature were more prominent than that in low temperature. 2. Ironing of nonwoven fabrics wants more attention on environmental temperature as the rate of shrinkage in high temperature was higher than that in low temperature. Neutral detergents are more desirable as the rate of shrinkage of nonwoven fabrics by laundering with synthetic detergents was more prominent than that with neutral deter-gents. The rate of shringkage of nonwoven fabrics was not affected by dry cleanining. 3. Special care is wanted in order to prevent color transfer from non woven fabrics to polyester or wool during dry cleaning or laundering as the color fastness test show that color changes of nonwoven fabrics were not affected, but that color stain was increased on polyester or wool. 4. The strength was affected by composition of fibers and types of nonwoven fabrics, soft or stiff.
Before studying graft polymerization of PP(polypropylene) nonwoven fabrics by electron beam preirradiation method, mechanical properties, thermal properties and degree of crystallinity of original and electron beam irradiated PP nonwoven fabrics were investigated. Morphological surface changes of electron beam irradiated PP nonwoven fabrics were not observed. And the melting temperature and crystallinity of electron beam irradiated PP nonwoven fabrics also did not change as compared with untreated PP nonwoven fabrics. But the breaking strength of electron beam irradiated PP nonwoven fabrics decreased with increasing electron beam absorbed dose due to breakdown of some parts of polymer main chain.
Aqueous polyurethanes(APU) were prepared from polypropylene glycol(PPG), dimethylol propionic acid(DMPA), and isophoron diisocyanate(IPDI) following a prepolymer mixing process. APUs were applied as binder for nonwoven fabrics processing. APU treated nonwoven fabrics generally showed better tear and tensile strength as compared with the untreated ones. In addition, depending on the soft segment length and crosslinking density of the PU, tear strength of APU treated fabrics was favorably compared with solvent type treated one. Similar results were obtained with microfiber nonwoven fabrics, however, the effect was less significant.
Functions of interlinings to the shell fabric are to improve the garment formability for a beautiful silhouette and elastic potential to the deformed fabric during wearing, and also are to enhance appearance and wearing properties of garment. The objective of this study is to analyse the thermal properties of nonwoven fusible interlining to the thin worsted fabric with various fabric structural parameters. For the purpose fo this study, eight specimens with various weft yarn twists and weft densities of thin worsted fabrics are prepared. Three nonwoven fusible interlinings with different structure which were made by Nylon/Polyester were used for adhering to the thin worsted fabrics. Thermal properties of these 24 adhesive fabrics fused with 3 nonwoven interlinings are measured by KES-F7 System for analysing the thermal suitability of nonwoven fusible interlinings to the thin worsted fabrics with various fabric structural parameters. And air permeability, which was measured by KES-F8-API, of 24 nonwoven adhesive interlining fabrics was also analysed and discussed with the various kinds of nonwoven interlinings and fabric structural parameters.
Chemical bonded nonwoven fabric for apparel use and spunlaced nonwoven fabric for medical use were finished for soil resistance and blood replellency with fluorochemicals utilizing foam finishing technology (FFT) and conventional padding application techniques. The FFT process improved soil and abrasion resistance properties of nonwoven fabrics compared with the conventional padding process. Excellent water-oil-saline-alcohol repellency values and water impact penetration values were obtained in the spunlaced nonwoven fabrics with both techniques.
Among the components of disposable diaper, the top sheet contacting with baby skin directly is usually made of nonwoven fabrics. Therefore, the tactile properties of the nonwoven fabrics are important for the skin health of infants. In this study, we have explored the surface properties of hygiene nonwoven fabrics (100% cotton spunlace, 100% tencel spunlace, 100% polypropylene (PP) thermalbonding and 100% PP Thru-air bonded carded web (TABCW)), such as friction coefficient and geometrical roughness. used by KES-F system and a laser displacement sensor. Also, we evaluated the subjective responses about the hygiene nonwoven fabrics used by a questionnaire and compared with the objective values, measured by KES-F system and a laser displacement sensor respectively. From the result, we have found that surface sensation (such as soft, smooth, and rough) and bulkiness sensation (such as spongy and fluffy) of nonwovens were represented excellently by L-SMD values which are measured by a laser displacement sensor.
The anisotropy in creep behavior of two types of nonwoven fabrics (needle-punched and thermobonded spun laid) has been studied. It has been observed that the amount of time dependent extension depends on the direction, amount of loading and the structure of nonwoven the fabrics. The time dependent extension (creep) for the nonwoven fabric increases with the increase in amount of load. The higher initial extension and creep are observed for needle-punched nonwoven fabric as compared to thermobonded spun-laid nonwoven fabric. The creep behavior of needle-punched nonwoven shows a logarithmic relationship with time, but the thermobonded spun-laid nonwoven fabric does not show such logarithmic relationship. For a particular fabric, the creep is dependent on the fiber arrangement and is minimum in the direction in which the proportion of fiber is maximum and visa versa.
In order to investigate the changes in mechanical properties of sanitary nonwoven fabrics actually used as a top sheet, the fabric was treated with a mixture of chitosan and nanosilver colloidal solution in accordance with the prescribed ratio. The former is a natural polymer with excellent biocompatibility and the latter can give an additional performance while compensating the weaknesses of chitosan of deteriorating adherence efficiency. It was shown that the bending and shearing characteristics of the chitosan/nanosilver treated fabrics decreased, which helped to make it softer, smoother and more flexible. The shape stability and drapability of the treated fabrics improved. As KES-FB system evaluation showed that Koshi was deduced, and both Numeri and Fukurami were increased. Thereby, the chitosan/nanosilver treated fabrics were smoother to provide elasticity. In the change of hand value compared to chitosan only treatment, a better THV was shown in the fabrics treated with chitosan/nanosilver mixed solution than the fabric treated with chitosan alone.
This paper dealt with the synthesis and characterization of the polymeric product by the reaction of the water-soluble poly(vinyl alcohol)[PVA] nonwoven fabrics and the phosphoryl chloride ($POCl_3$), which has been applied to prepare water-proofing materials or intermediates for increasing water-proofing or fire-proofing ability of commercially available water-soluble PVA support layer. $POCl_3$ was reacted with PVA nonwoven fabrics under non-aqueous condition, and their reactivity, and chemical structure were checked and discussed. PVA was reacted with $POCl_3$ under the reaction condition of 1:1, or 1:2 mole ratios at 70, 80 and $90^{\circ}C$, and the reaction products were further hydrolyzed. The structure of the resulting products from water soluble PVA nonwoven fabrics reacted with $POCl_3$ were identified by FT-IR or X-ray fluorescence spectrophotometer, and they indicated the PVA polymer chains to have phosphorous and chlorine moieties.
Silk nonwoven fabrics are prepared by needle punching and thermal bonding with silk waste. To enhance the carding efficiency, the degumming rate was controlled with sodium hydrogen sulfite solution. The amount of the remained sericin was 3%(S-3), and 6%(S-6). Mixing wool and LMP(Low melting polyester) with the silk, to improve carding efficiency, was also effective. Following items were tested with prepared silk nonwovon fabrics : weight, thickness, compression, tensile strength, heat insulation, water absorption, and deodorization. The results show that the silk nonwoven fabrics could be used for apparels and new biomaterials.
