  • The LCL resonant inductive power transfer (IPT) system is increasingly used because of its harmonic filtering capabilities, high efficiency at light load, and unity power factor feature. However, the modeling and controller design of this system become extremely difficult because of parameter uncertainty, high-order property, and switching nonlinear property. This paper proposes a frequency and load uncertainty modeling method for the LCL resonant IPT system. By using the linear fractional transformation method, we detach the uncertain part from the system model. A robust control structure with weighting functions is introduced, and a control method using structured singular values is used to enhance the system performance of perturbation rejection and reference tracking. Analysis of the controller performance is provided. The simulation and experimental results verify the robust control method and analysis results. The control method not only guarantees system stability but also improves performance under perturbation.

  • This paper proposes a swarm-based fuzzy system modeling technique for coke oven combustion control diagnosis. The coke plant produces coke for the blast furnace plant in steel making process by charging coal into oven and supplying gas to carbonize it. A conventional mathematical model for coke oven combustion control has been used to control the amount of gas input, but it does not work well because of highly nonlinear feature of coke plant. To solve this problem, swarm-based fuzzy system modeling technique is suggested to construct a diagnosis model of coke oven combustion control. Based on the measured input-output data pairs, the fuzzy rules are generated and the parameters are tuned by the PSO(Particle Swarm Optimizer) to increase the accuracy of the fuzzy system is operated. This system computes the proper amount of gas input taking the operation conditions of coke oven into account, and compares the computed result with the supplied gas input.

  • A nonlinear method for directional information processing is introduced, along with an application of directional feature enhancement. In this method, an input is convolved with a 2-D ong, norrow kernel, which is rotated through 360 degree, continuously or discretely in a large number of steps. An output is given by some function of the convolution results. Linear features that are aligned with the kernel are enhanced, otherwise, removed or suppressed. The method presented is insensitive to variation in the dimension of linear features to be processed and preserves a good enhancement capability even for an image characterized by low contrast and spatially varying brightness in noisy backgroung. Effects of the kernel legnth and width on the performance are discussed. A possible hybrid optical-electronic implementation is also discussed.

  • Due to the high power to weight ratio and fast response under heavy load, the hydraulic systems are still applied to the development of many industrial facilities such as heavy duty construction vehicles, aerospace/military weapon actuating systems and motion simulators. Unlike the other actuators, single-rod hydraulic cylinder exhibits a lot different dynamic characteristics between the extending and retracting stroke because of the difference in pressure acting areas. In this research, in order to overcome this nonlinear feature, $H_{\infty}$ optimal controller was designed and implemented with DSP board that was specifically developed for the experiment. From the experimental result, we could confirm that the overall performance of single-rod hydraulic servo system is similar with the results as we expected in the design stage.

  • These days many scientists make studies of feedback control system for stability on non-linear state and for the maneuver of flying objects. These feedback control systems have to satisfy trajectory condition and angular conditions, that is to say, controllability and stability simultaneously to achieve mission. In this paper, a design methods using model based control system which consists of spiral predictive model, Q-function included into generalized-work function is shown. It is made a clear that the proposed algorithm using SPM maneuvers for controllability and stability at the same time is successful in attaining our purpose. The feature of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by simulation results. As a conclusion, the proposed algorithm is useful for the control of moving objects.

  • Probabilistic atlases for the human brain structure are more suitable than single brain atlases for representing population anatomy. In this study, we hypothesized the group-specific probabilistic atlas for accurate characteristic feature coding. Our proposed method for a new group comparison study, using a subpopulation specific probabilistic atlas, was based on this hypothesis. A knowledge-based automatic labeling technique using nonlinear registration was applied to encode group-specific regional probabilistic information. Direct atlas-based comparison using volume counting above the probability threshold, distance measurement and correlation analysis were performed based on the probabilistic atlas. Here, we applied this method for comparison between Korean and occidental groups. The results showed that this method could provide simple but intuitive regions of interest-based group analysis for the entire cortex area.

  • This paper describes a development of high speed fuzzy inference circuit for the industrialprocesses. The hardware fuzzy inference circuit is developed utilizing a hardware fuzzy inference circuit is developed utilizing a DSP and a multiplier and accumulator chip. To enhance the inference speed, the pipeline disign is adopted at the bottleneck and the general Max-Min inference method is slightly modified as Max-max method. As a results, the inference speed is evaluated to be 100 KFLIPS. Owing to this high speed feature, satisfactory application can be attained for complex high speed motion control as well as the control of multi-input multi-output nonlinear system. As an application, the developed fuzzy inference circuit is embedded to a PLC (Porgrammable Logic Controller) for industrial process control. For the fuzzy PLC system, to fascilitate the design of the fuzzy control knowledge such as membership functions, rules, etc., a MS-Windows based GUI (Graphical User Interface) software is developed.

  • Obstacle avoidance of underactuated robot manipulators using switching computed torque method (SCTM) is presented. One fundamental feature of this novel method is to use partly stable controllers (PSCs) in order to fulfill the ultimate control objective. Here, we use genetic algorithms (GAs) to acquire the optimum switching sequence of the control actions for a given time frame with the available set of elemental controllers, depending on which links/variables are controlled. The effectiveness of the concept is illustrated by taking a three-degrees-of-freedom (DOF) manipulator and showing enhanced performance of the proposed control methodology.

  • Contract power conversion factor which is applied to estimate contract power of general customers IS an important standard to caculate transformer capacity. This paper shows a reasonable contract power conversion factor, that was made by the systematic and statistical way considering actual conditions, such as investigated contract power and peak power for the last 5 years of each customer for 132 office building customers as to AMR system. In this dissertation, it is necessary to analyze the key features and general trend from the investigated data. It made an analysis of the feature parameters, such as average, standard deviation, median, maximum, minimun and thus it was carried the linear and nonlinear regression analysis. Therefore, this paper compared characteristics for a contract power conversion factor which is applied to calculate contract power with characteristics for a regression model for customers which maximum utilization factor of transformer is more than 60%.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to automatically diagnose various diseases. The input data consists of electrocardiograph (ECG) recordings. We extract R-to-R interval (RRI) signals from ECG recordings, which are preprocessed to remove trends and ectopic beats, and to keep the signal stationary. After that, we perform some prospective analysis to extract time-domain parameters, frequency-domain parameters, and nonlinear parameters of the signal. Those parameters are unique for each disease and can be used as the statistical symptoms for each disease. Then, we perform feature selection to improve the performance of the diagnosis classifier. We utilize the selected features to diagnose various diseases using machine learning. We subsequently measure the performance of the machine learning classifier to make sure that it will not misdiagnose the diseases. The first two steps, which are R-to-R extraction and preprocessing, have been successfully implemented with satisfactory results.
