An accurate hysteresis model of an elastomer is important for quantifying viscoelastic energy loss. We suggest a highly nonlinear hyper-viscoelastic constitutive model of elastomers. The model captures a nonlinear viscoelastic characteristic by combining Yeoh's hyperelastic model and Hoofatt's hysteresis model used Neo-Hookean hyperelastic model. Analytical and numerical models were generated from uniaxial cyclic tests of an elastomer under a sinusoidal load with a mean strain of 150%, amplitudes of 20~80%, and frequencies of 0.02~0.2Hz. The viscoelastic model can highly capture the viscoelastic energy loss up to a strain of 230%.

In this work, an efficient aircraft landing simulation strategy is proposed to develop an efficient and reliable hard-landing monitoring procedure. Landing stage is the most dangerous moment during operation cycle of aircraft and it may cause structural damage when hard-landing occurs. Therefore, the occurrence of hard-landing should be reported accurately to guarantee the structural integrity of aircraft. In order to accurately determine whether hard-landing occurs or not from given landing conditions, full nonlinear structural dynamic simulation can be performed, but this approach is highly time-consuming. Thus, a more efficient approach for aircraft landing simulation which uses a hierarchical aircraft landing model and an extended inertia relief technique is proposed. The proposed aircraft landing model is composed of a multi-body dynamics model equipped with landing gear and tire models to extract the impact force and inertia force at touch-down and a linear dynamic structural model with an extended inertia relief method to analyze the structural response subject to the prescribed rigid body motion and the forces extracted from the multi-body dynamics model. The numerical examples show the efficiency and practical advantages of the proposed landing model as an essential component of aircraft hard-landing monitoring procedure.
Concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs) are increasingly used as composite sections in structures owing to their excellent load bearing capacity. Therefore, predicting the mechanical behavior of CFST sections under axial compression loading is vital for design purposes. This paper presents the first study on the nonlinear analysis of heated CFSTs with high-strength concrete core containing steel fiber and waste tire rubber under axial compression loading. CFSTs had steel fibers with 0, 1, and 1.5% volume fractions and 0, 5, and 10% rubber particles as sand alternative material. They were subjected to 20, 250, 500, and 750℃ temperatures. Using flow rule and analytical analysis, a model is developed to predict the load bearing capacity of steel tube, and hoop strain-axial strain relationship, and axial stress-volumetric strain relationship of CFSTs. An elastic-plastic analysis method is applied to determine the axial and hoop stresses of the steel tube, considering elastic, yield, and strain hardening stages of steel in its stress-strain curve. The axial stress in the concrete core is determined as the difference between the total experimental axial stress and the axial stress of steel tube obtained from modeling. The results show that steel tube in CFSTs under 750℃ exhibits a higher load bearing contribution compared to those under 20, 250, and 500℃. It is also found that the ratio of load bearing capacity of steel tube at peak point to the load bearing capacity of CFST at peak load is noticeable such that this ratio is in the ranges of 0.21-0.33 and 0.31-0.38 for the CFST specimens with a steel tube thickness of 2 and 3.5 mm, respectively. In addition, after the steel tube yielding, the load bearing capacity of the tube decreases due to the reduction of its axial stiffness and the increase of hoop strain rate, which is in the range of about 20 to 40%.

This study showed that experimental study of inelastic nonlinear behavior of two-way beam string structures. General large span structures consisting of beam members have large moment and long cross section of area. In order to decrease these excessive moment and deflection, the two-way beam string structures composed of H-Beam, strut, and cable elements were proposed. In the two-way string beam, the cable with the prestress improves force distribution of some weight reduction. Two systems made of structural steel and cables were tested. The nonlinear behaviour of the two-way beam string structures studied by using finite element model and compared to experimental results. The displacement of the LVDT in the center of the beam correspond with the ABAQUS results. 2,200MPa cable can afford to bear breaking load than 1,860MPa cable. The two-way beam string structures is correlated to the finite element model and the experimental results. In consequence, It showed that the system with two-way cables exhibits much better structural performances than H-Beam structures and beam with cable.

A shape optimal design of synthetic intervertebral disc prosthesis is performed using a three-dimensional finite element method. Geometric parameters are introduced to model the cross-sectional geometry of the intervertebral disc. It is assumed that the total strain energy in the intact intervertebral disc is minimized under the normal load conditions, as often cited in other references. To calculate the stain energy density, both the nonlinear material properties and the large deformations are taken into account. The design variables of the annulus fiber angle and the area ratio of the nucleus pulposus are calculated as 31°and 30%, respectively, which complies well with the intact disc. Thus, the same optimization procedure is applied to the design of the synthetic intervertebral disc prosthesis whose material properties are different from the intact disc. For the given synthetic material properties, the values of 67°and 24% for the fiber angle and the area ratio are obtained.

There exists a structural limit of 2WS cars that drivers would not like simultaneously to follow the desired path and attenuate moments resulting from disturbances because lateral acceleration and yaw rate are coupled inherently. In order to overcome the limit, the 4WS cars that have rear wheel steering as an additional input have been introduced. But the 4WS cars have disadvantages that much cost is required due to structural alteration, it is difficult to be used to the driving circumstances and tire performances are not efficient in nonlinear or large lateral acceleration ranges. Therefore, it is proposed that, in this paper, a robust controller is easy to apply to 2WS cars by using direct yaw moment, decouples lateral acceleration from yaw motion and is robust against disturbances and uncertainties of system parameters, and thus the proposed control method has the advantages of 4WS cars which can be achieved in 2WS cars.

A disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller is proposed in this paper. The lumped disturbance to the vehicle yaw rate dynamics caused by the uncertain factors such as uncertain tire forces and parameters is estimated by the disturbance observer, which is utilized by the robust controller to stabilize the lateral dynamics of the vehicle. The dynamics of the hydraulic actuator is incorporated in the vehicle stability controller design using the model reduction technique. Modular control design methodology is adopted to effectively deal with the mismatched uncertainty. Simulation results indicate that the proposed disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller can achieve the desired reference tracking performance as well as sufficient level of robustness.

Vehicle dynamics control (VDC) has been a breakthrough and become a new terminology for the safety of a driver and improvement of vehicle handling. This paper examines the usefulness of a brake steer system (BSS), which uses differential brake forces for steering intervention in the context of VDC, In order to help the car to turn, a yaw moment can be achieved by altering the left/right and front/rear brake distribution. The steering function achieved through BSS can then be used to control lateral position in an unintended road departure system. An 8-DOF non-linear vehicle model including STI tire model will be validated using the equations of motion of the vehicle, and the non-linear vehicle dynamics. Since fuzzy logic can consider the nonlinear effect of vehicle modeling, fuzzy controller is designed to explore BSS feasibility, by modifying the brake distribution through the control of the yaw rate of the vehicle. The control strategies developed will be tested by simulation of a variety of situation; the possibility of VDC using BSS is verified in this paper.

The vibrations of steering wheel are required to be reduced for convenient ride quality and good controllability. This phenomenon, vibration of steering wheel, is occured by interaction with suspension system, steering system, vehicle body, engine/transmission and tire complicately. But reviewing the current research activities, most researches are performed for the vibration analysis of steering wheel with a simple model, and mot easy to be applied to the variation of each component element connected with steering system as well as that of the steering system. In this study, suspension system and steering system are modelled by the T.L.H. coordinate system which is usually used by a passenger car maker. Also, rigid body motions of engine and elastic motions of vehicle body in the previous study are considered. Derive the equation of motion in 29 d.o.f. and the vibration of steering wheel is analyzed numerically and verify the midelling of steering system by comparison with test results for real car. And then, the optimal design values of the engine mount system obtained from the previous study are applied to the verified steering system model and investigate the effects of various engine mount design values on the vibration of steering wheel.

The monopole theory has long been used to model air-pumped effect from the elastic cavities in car tire. This approach models the change of an air as a Piston moving backward and forward on a spring and equates local air movements exactly with the volume changes of the system. Thus, the monopole theory has a restricted domain of applicability due to the usual assumption of a small amplitude acoustic wave equation and acoustic monopole theory This paper describes an approach to predict the air-pumping noise of a car tyre with CFD/Kirchhoff integral method. The tyre groove is simply modeled as piston-cavity-sliding door geometry and with the aid of CFD technique flow properties in the groove of rolling car tyre are acquired.'rhese unsteady flow data are used as a air-pumping source in the next CFD calculation of full tyre-road geometry. Acoustic far field is predicted from Kirchhoff integral method by using unsteady flow data in space and time which is provided by the CFD calculation of full tyre-road domain. This approach can cover the non-linearity of acoustic monopole theory with the aid of Non-linear governing equation in CFD calculation. The method proposed in this paper is applied to the prediction of air-pumping noise of simply modeled car tyre and through the predicted results, the influence of nonlinear effect on air-pumping noise propagation is investigated.
