  • The paper describes the adaptation of evolutionary fuzzy model ins (EFM) in developing global function approximation tools for use in genetic algorithm based optimization of nonlinear structural systems. EFM is an optimization process to determine the fuzzy membership parameters for constructing global approximation model in a case where the training data are not sufficiently provided or uncertain information is included in design process. The paper presents the performance of EFM in terms of numbers of fuzzy rules and training data, and then explores the EFM based sizing of automotive component for passenger protection.

  • High-resolution imaging of electrical conductivity has been the subject of many studies in crosshole tomography using electromagnetic (EM) fields (Zhou et al., 1993; Wilt et al., 1995; Alumbaugh and Morrison, 1995; Newman, 1995; Alumbaugh and Newman, 1997). Although the theoretical understanding and associated field practices for crosshole EM methods are relatively mature, fast and stable imaging of crosshole EM data is still a challenging problem. • In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of solution of stochastic fractional neutral differential equations with Gaussian noise or Lévy noise by using the Picard-Lindelöf successive approximation scheme. Further stability results of nonlinear stochastic fractional dynamical system with Gaussian and Lévy noises are established. Examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

  • We improve the greedy algorithm which is one of the general convergence criterion for certain iterative sequence in a given space by building a constructive greedy algorithm on a normed linear space using an arithmetic average of elements. We also show the degree of approximation order is still $Ο(1\sqrt{\n}$) by a bounded linear functional defined on a bounded subset of a normed linear space which offers a good approximation method for neural networks.

  • In this paper, we propose a new semi-analytic approach based on the generalized Taylor series for solving nonlinear differential equations of fractional order. Assuming the solution is expanded as the generalized Taylor series, the coefficients of the series can be computed by solving the corresponding recursive relation of the coefficients which is generated by the given problem. This method is called the generalized differential transform method(GDTM). In several literatures the standard GDTM was applied in each sub-domain to obtain an accurate approximation. As noticed in [19], however, a direct application of the GDTM in each sub-domain loses a term of memory which causes an inaccurate approximation. In this work, we derive a new recursive relation of the coefficients that reflects an effect of memory. Several illustrative examples are demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. It is shown that the proposed method is robust and accurate for solving nonlinear differential equations of fractional order.

  • In this paper, a direct controller for nonlinear plants using a neural network is presented. The composed of the control input by using RBF neural networks and auxiliary input to compensate for effects of the approximation errors and disturbances. In the results, using this scheme, the output tracking error between the plant and the reference model can asymptotically converge to zero in the presence of bounded disturbances and approximation errors. Simulation results show that it is very effective and can realize a satisfactory control of the nonlinear system.

  • To construct the third generation model, nonlinear interaction was included in source terms. To calculate the nonlinear interaction, discrete interaction approximation to Boltzmann integral was used, as in WAM model. The general behavior and characteristics of nonlinear interaction were analyzed through the experiments for the durational growth and turning winds.

  • In this article, we define Picard's three-step iteration process for the approximation of fixed points of Zamfirescu operators in an arbitrary Banach space. We prove a convergence result for Zamfirescu operator using the proposed iteration process. Further, we prove that Picard's three-step iteration process is almost T-stable and converges faster than all the known and leading iteration processes. To support our results, we furnish an illustrative numerical example. Finally, we apply the proposed iteration process to approximate the solution of a mixed Volterra-Fredholm functional nonlinear integral equation.

  • The two optimal control algorithms, singular approximation and minimum principle, were compared in this paper. The switching time with singular approximation was determined with mathematical derivation and the optimal control profile of specific growth rate was also calculated with minimum principle. The optimal control profiles were calculated by making simple model correlating the specific cell growth rate and specific product formation rate. The optimal control profiles calculated by singular approximation approach were similar to stepwise form of those calculatd by minimum principles. With the minimum principle, the product concentration was 8% more than that of singular approximation. This performance difference was due to a linearization of a nonlinear function with singular approximation. This optimal approaches were applicable to any system with different optimal cell growth and product formation.

  • This paper addresses a method for nonlinear controller construction for a general nonlinear system with the separation of controller construction and manipulated values generation. The nonlinear system model is firstly expressed with the coefficients of state-depended representation. The nonlinear control is designed without any approximation based on the model with state-depended representation. At the stage of controller implementation for the nonlinear system, the manipulated values are calculated accurately by use of an algorithm of the numerical analysis. The numerical error for calculating the manipulated value can be reduced to zero by selecting the sampling interval being a small val...
