Effects of non-cleaning and cleaning fluxes on the wetting properties and defects at flow soldered joints were investigated. Non-cleaning flux (R-type of 3.3% solid content) and cleaning flux (RMA-type of 15% solid content) were used. Wetting test was accomplished by wetting balance method with changing surface state of wetting specimen, CU. Sn-37%Pb solder was used for wetting test and flow soldering. As experimental results, the wetting time for vertical force from the surface tension being zero was mainly affected by surface state of the wetting specimen. Non-cleaning flux had a good wettability compared with cleaning flux. In case of non-cleaning flux, conveyor speed had a great affection to defects of bridge, icicle, and poor solder.

Polymeric hydrogel particles were fabricated to demonstrate the scale-up possibilities with the Particle Replication In Non-wetting Templates (PRINT) process. A permanently etched, specifically designed master was made on a silicon wafer using conventional photolithography, then reactive ion etching. The master and substrate were used repeatedly to make a large number of identical elastomeric perfluoropolyethers (PFPE) replica molds. The PFPE replica molds were used to fabricate and harvest individual, monodisperse micron-sized particles using the PRINT process. A water-soluble polymer adhesive was used as a sacrificial layer for harvesting particles. Particles were composed of biodegradable poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEG-diA), and aminoethylacrylate (AEM) and 2-acryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (AETMAC) were added to them for improving the uptake of the cells. This study suggested PRINT used to produce the uniformed and shape specific biodegradable polymer is the effective technique for the non viral vector for the drug and the gene delivery.
Leidenfrost drops with ellipsoidal shaping can control the bouncing height by adjusting the aspect ratio(AR) of the shape at the moment of impact. In this work, we focus on the effect of the AR and the impact Weber number(We) on the non-axisymmetrical spreading dynamics of the drop, which plays an important role in the control of bouncing. To understand the impact dynamics, the numerical simulation is conducted for the ellipsoidal drop impact upon the perfect non-wetting solid surface by using volume of fluid method, which shows the characteristics of the spreading behavior in each principal axis. As the AR increases, the drop has a high degree of the alignment into one principal axis, which leads to the consequent suppression of bouncing height with shape oscillation. As the We increases, the maximum spreading diameters in the principal axes both increase whereas the contact time on the solid surface rarely depends on the impact velocity at the same AR. The comprehensive understanding of the ellipsoidal drop impact upon non-wetting surface will provide the way to control of drop deposition in applications, such as surface cleaning and spray cooling.
The object of this study was invest, igat, ing the failure phenomenon in the contact zone of
rcpnired concrete structures due to the external climate change(hygral transient
condition). This study was carrie out by calculating the non-stationary moisture and
stress distribution in the repaired concrete structures with the cement mortar. In this
analysis, main variables were the overlay thickness (Do=0.5-2.5cm). and the pre-wetting
time(tc= l-5days). and the cxtcrnal 1.~1ative humidity(Ho=50-80%). The results show that
the minimum overlay thickness and the minimum pre-wetting time are necessary to k e ~ p
compressive stresses in the contact zone for a relative humidity.
To investigate the unsaturated characteristics of the Boeun granite weathered soil, matric suction and volumetric water content were measured in both drying and wetting paths using Automated Soil-Water Characteristics Curve Apparatus. Based on the measured results, Soil-Water Characteristics Curve was estimated by van Genuchten (1980) model. The relationship between effective degree of saturation and matric suction showed the non-linear curve with S-shape and the hysteresis phenomenon occurred during drying and wetting paths. Suction Stress Characteristics Curve was estimated by the Lu and Likos (2006) model. The suction stress in drying path was constantly maintained and that in wetting path tended to increase when the effective degree of saturation was low. But the suction stress in drying path was larger than that in wetting path at the same degree of saturation when the effective degree of saturation became larger. Meanwhile, Hydraulic Conductivity Function was evaluated by the van Genuchten (1980) model which is one of the parameter estimation methods. The unsaturated hydraulic conductivity decreased with increasing the matric suction, and the decreasing velocity regarding to the matric suction in drying path was larger than that in wetting path.
A rational estimation of moisture distribution in structural concrete is vital for predicting the possible extent and rate of progression of impending degradation processes. The paper proposes a numerical scheme for analysing the evolution of moisture distribution in concrete subjected to wetting-drying exposure caused by intermittent periods of rainfall. The proposed paradigm is based on the stage wise implementation of non-linear finite element (FE) analysis, with each stage representing a distinct phase of a typical wet-dry cycle. The associated boundary conditions have been constituted to realize the influence of various meteorological elements such as rain, wind, relative humidity and temperature on the exposed concrete surface. The reliability of the developed scheme has been demonstrated through its application for the simulation of experimentally recorded moisture profiles reported in published literature. A sensitivity analysis has also been carried out to study the influence of critical material properties on simulated results. The proposed scheme is vital to the service life modelling of concrete structures in tropical climates which largely remain exposed to the action of alternating rains.
Effects of metal coating treatment on SiC particle on wetting behavior and interfacial strength were studied. Experimental variables are included types of coated metallic films such as Cu and Ni-P, and temperatures of heat-treatment under vacuum. The experimental results concerning wetting phenomena of liquid Al on SiC, showed that coating treatment of metallic film on SiC particles remarkably improves the wetting behavior of liquid Al on SiC, especially in the case of Ni-P coating. The interfacial strength of Al/SiC composites made of coated SiC plate was higher than that of the composite with non-coated SiC plate although the coating treatment was not perfect.
The stable deposition of impinging droplets on non-wetting substrates is of great importance for numerous industrial and scientific applications such as coating techniques, inkjet printing, spray cooling of heated surfaces. In this work, we systematically investigate impinging behaviors of non-Newtonian and viscous droplets ejected by electrohydrodynamic atomization.

As the difficulty of flip chip products increases, there is a growing interest in the material of flux, which is safe from the solder wetting and reliability. In the case of no clean flux, there is merit in terms of process efficiency because there is no cleaning process. But Cu migration and delamination can be occurred if the residue remains after the reflow process. In this study, major element materials, solvent and activator, are changed and confirmed effect of non-wet and reliability in the package environment. Stability of materials were secured through storage stability evaluation, and we found out non-wet zero materials through the application of two types of solvent and activator with different boiling point and the increase of activator content. After reliability test, no delamination was found in the plane analysis, which secured the final composition of low residue flux.

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the solderahility and characteristics of solder joints. Bridge defect of solder joint was examined in natural atmosphere and $N_2$ condition. Consequently, wettability was excellent for each of Sn-Pb plated Cu specimen, Sn plated Cu specimen, and Cu polished in $N_2$ condition. The wetting time in $N_2$ condition was shorter than that of natural atmosphere condition, showing the decreasing values of about 0.2~0.45 seconds. The max. wetting force under the $N_2$ condition was more increasing that of natural atmosphere condition, showing the increasing values of about 1.8~2.8 N. With the result of wetting balance test, the wetting time ($t_2$) and wetting farce according to increasing amount of $N_2$ from 10 1/min to 30 1/min, the wetting time ($t_2$) was reduced about 0.25 second and wetting force was increased about 2.3 N. In non-cleaning flux, when $N_2$ gas is applied, it is compensated to decrease of wettability. In the case of using the $N_2$ gas, the wettability was improved. The reason for improving wettability is due to preventing the formation of dross. The generation rate of bridge in $N_2$ condition decreased than that of natural atmosphere, and when the specimen had a fine pitch, the rate of bridge defects was considerably decreased in $N_2$ condition, showing the decreasing rate of 25~75%.
