  • The Z-map model which is quite similar to the non-parametric patch is widely used to describe the shape of a surface because of its simplicity. Despite the inherent advantage of z-map model. it has drawbacks that there exists difficulty in expressing the vertical walls and its related contact treatment method. In the region of vertical walls, there is a convergence problem in searching the contact point. In this study a contact point finding scheme is presented, based on the z value of the z-map model on the sheet normal direction. To show the utility of this scheme a compared with the experimental results. The effects of the Z-map grid distances and the interpolations of the inside Z-map value are also discussed.

  • This paper introduces an automatic voice classification system for the diagnosis of individual constitution based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) in Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM). For the developing of this algorithm, we used the voices of 473 speakers and extracted a total of 144 speech features from the speech data consisting of five sustained vowels and one sentence. The classification system, based on a rule-based algorithm that is derived from a non parametric statistical method, presents binary negative decisions. In conclusion, 55.7% of the speech data were diagnosed by this system, of which 72.8% were correct negative decisions.

  • In this paper, we propose a method pursuing robustness in ad hoc network system when the CSI of interferers is unavailable. The non-parametric linear minimum mean square error filter is exploited to achieve large fraction of the MMSE filter transmission capacity employing the perfect covariance matrix information. From the numerical results, we show that the proposed scheme brings substantial transmission capacity gain over conventional MMSE filter using sample covariance matrix.

  • Background subtraction is a method typically used to segment moving regions in image sequences taken from a static camera by comparing each new frame to a model of the scene background. We present a improved non-parametric background model by null hypothesis. Evaluation shows that this approach achieves very sensitive detection with very low false alarm rates.

  • Feature extraction of CASA system uses time continuity and channel similarity and makes correlogram of auditory elements for the use. In case of using feature extraction with cross correlation coefficient for channel similarity, it has much computational complexity in order to display correlation quantitatively. Therefore, this paper suggests feature extraction method using non-parametric correlation coefficient in order to reduce computational complexity when extracting the feature and tests to segregate target speech by CASA system. As a result of measuring SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) for the performance evaluation of target speech segregation, the proposed method shows a slight improvement of 0.14 dB on average over the conventional method.

  • This paper presents a parametric study on the free vibration analysis of a functionally graded material (FGM) circular plate with non-uniform thickness resting on a variable Pasternak elastic foundation. The mechanical properties of the material vary in the transverse direction through the thickness of the plate according to the power-law distribution to represent the constituent components. The equation of motion of the circular plate has been carried out based on the classical plate theory (CPT), and the differential quadrature method (DQM) is employed to solve the governing equations as a semi-analytical method. The grid points are chosen based on Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto distribution to achieve acceptable convergence and better accuracy. The influence of geometric parameters, variable elastic foundation, and functionally graded variation for clamped and simply supported boundary conditions on the first three natural frequencies are investigated. Comparisons of results with similar studies in the literature have been presented and two-dimensional mode shapes for particular plates have been plotted to illustrate the effect of variable thickness profile.

  • Free Standing Hybrid Riser (FSHR) is comprised of vertical steel risers and Flexible Jumpers (FJ). They are jointly connected to a submerged Buoyancy Can (BC). There are several factors that have influence on the behavior of FSHR such as the span distance between an offshore platform and a foundation, BC up-lift force, BC submerged location and FJ length. An optimization method through a parametric study is presented. Firstly, descriptions for the overall arrangement and characteristics of FSHR are introduced. Secondly, a flowchart for optimization of FSHR is suggested. Following that, it is described how to select reasonable ranges for a parametric study and determine each of optimal configuration options. Lastly, numerical analysis based on this procedure is performed through a case study. In conclusion, the relation among those parameters is analyzed and non-dimensional parametric ranges on optimal arrangements are suggested. Additionally, strength analysis is performed with variation in the configuration.

  • In the paper, we consider two-dimensional warranty policy with failure times and repair times. The failure times are considered within the warranty period and the repair times are considered within the repair time limit. Under the renewable warranty policy and non-renewable warranty policy, we consider the number of warranty services in the censored area by warranty period and repair time limit to conduct warranty cost analysis. We investigate the field data to check their dependency and implement our proposed approaches to conduct warranty cost analysis using the parametric methods. Numerical examples are discussed to demonstrate the applicability of the methodologies and results based on the proposed approach in the paper.

  • The parametric dynamic stability of an asymmetric sandwich beam with viscoelastic core on viscoelastic supports at the ends and subjected to an axial pulsating load is investigated. A set of Hill's equations are obtained from the non-dimensional equations of motion by the application of the general Galerkin method. The zones of parametric instability are obtained using Saito-Otomi conditions. The effects of shear parameter, support characteristics, various geometric parameters and excitation force on the zones of instability are investigated.

  • The issue is all about the study of warranty data collection and the analysis method to get a reasonable information of the products and improve reliability. In this paper, we consider the classification of warranty data analyses into a parametric and non-parametric analysis and method to get a reasonable information of the products. Also, it is considered the research trend by grouping the relationship among the studies. This study would be used to find the effective application and the condition of warranty data analysis.
