  • Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been considered for the fifth generation (5G) mobile networks to provide high system capacity and low latency. We calculate the channel capacity for the weak channel user in NOMA and the channel capacity region for NOMA. In this paper, Gaussian mixture channel is compared to the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Gaussian mixture channel is modeled when we assume the practical signal modulation for the inter user interference, such as the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation. It is shown that the channel capacity with BPSK inter user interference is better than that with Gaussian inter user interference. We also show that the channel capacity region with BPSK inter user interference is larger than that with Gaussian inter user interference. As a result, NOMA could perform better in the practical environments.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial activity of grapefruit extracts and polylysine mixture against food-borne pathogens. The mixture was showed a potent and quick antibacterial activity for 5 major bacteria causing food poisoning i.e. Escherichia coli, Escherichia coli O-157, Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae. The antibacterial effect of the mixture on the ordinary bacteria inhibiting on the surface of lettuce was lasted even 6 hrs after the treatment, however the mixture was non-effective on the color, smell and taste of lettuce. The treatment with 10% mixture solution of the foods such as fish, meat, rice and bread suppressed the growth of the bacteria and kept the foods more freshly than the untreated foods.

  • It is difficult to dye nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics by one-bath one-step dyeing method, because acid dyes and reactive dyes require acidic dyebath for adsorption and alkaline dyebath for fixation respectively. In order to overcome the disadvantage of the conventional two bath two step dyeing method of nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabric, it was pretreated with cationizing agent containing chlorohydrine group in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The pretreated nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics produced cationized fabrics that could be dyed with acid dyes and reactive dyes under neutral condition. This study was carried out to investigate dyeing possibilities, surface reflectance spectra and color characteristics of cationized nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics with acid dyes and reactive dyes in a non-electrolytic and neutral dyebath by one bath one step dyeing method.

  • In an automotive spark ignition, it is important to form the proper mixture(air/fuel) on each driving condition for developing the stabilizing combustion and exhaust characteristics. Since most of supply fuel is attached on the inside wall of the intake manifold for unadequate atomization by fuel injection system, it brings a bad effect on combustion and exhaust caused by nonuniformity of fuel distribution to each cylinder and mixture variation. Also it affects engine performance variation and causes noises and vibration. In this study, we verified the effect of the mixture variation which is caused by fuel liquid film in an intake manifold on combustion characteristics and engine performance.

  • We Propose two new methods for non-keyword modeling to improve the performance of speaker- and vocabulary-independent keyword spotting system. The first method is decision tree clustering of monophone at the state level instead of monophone clustering method based on K-means algorithm. The second method is multi-state multiple mixture modeling at the syllable level rather than single state multiple mixture model for the non-keyword. To evaluate our method, we used the ETRI speech DB for training and keyword spotting test (closed test) . We also conduct an open test to spot 100 keywords with 400 sentences uttered by 4 speakers in an of fce environment. The experimental results showed that the decision tree-based state clustering method improve 28%/29% (closed/open test) than the monophone clustering method based K-means algorithm in keyword spotting. And multi-state non-keyword modeling at the syllable level improve 22%/2% (closed/open test) than single state model for the non-keyword. These results show that two proposed methods achieve the improvement of keyword spotting performance.

  • Synchronous multi-pressure measurements were carried out with relatively long time duration for a double-layer reticulated shell roof model in the atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel. Since the long roof is open at two ends for the storage of coal piles, three different testing cases were considered as the empty roof without coal piles (Case A), half coal piles inside (Case B) and full coal piles inside (Case C). Based on the wind tunnel test results, non-Gaussian time-dependent statistics of net wind pressure on the shell roof were quantified in terms of skewness and kurtosis. It was found that the direct statistical estimation of high-order moments and peak factors is quite sensitive to the duration of wind pressure time-history data. The maximum value of COVs (Coefficients of variations) of high-order moments is up to 1.05 for several measured pressure processes. The Mixture distribution models are proposed for better modeling the distribution of a parent pressure process. With the aid of mixture parent distribution models, the existing translated-peak-process (TPP) method has been revised and improved in the estimation of non-Gaussian peak factors. Finally, non-Gaussian peak factors of wind pressure, particularly for those observed hardening pressure process, were calculated by employing various state-of-the-art methods and compared to the direct statistical analysis of the measured long-duration wind pressure data. The estimated non-Gaussian peak factors for a hardening pressure process at the leading edge of the roof were varying from 3.6229, 3.3693 to 3.3416 corresponding to three different cases of A, B and C.

  • This paper investigates the manufacturing and fundamental quality characteristics of potassium magnesia phosphate-based non-cement high-volume fly ash repair mortar. To derive the optimal mix for non-cement mortar, the manufacturing characteristics were evaluated based on the magnesia ratio, and the mortar manufacturing characteristics were assessed with the fly ash mixture. Additionally, the non-cement magnesia repair mortar was produced considering the effects of fly ash mixture and basalt fiber. The evaluation results determined the optimal mix of non-cement magnesia repair mortar, and the feasibility was examined through workability and fundamental quality assessments. The optimal magnesia ratio was found to be P:M 1:0.5, with W/B at 30 %. It was also confirmed that mixing FA and basalt fiber improves fiber dispersion and workability. Even with over 50 % FA mixture, the target strength was achieved within six hours, with a flow increase of up to 18 % and a flexural strength decrease of about 1-2 MPa.

  • Experiments were performed to investigate the condensing heat transfer characteristics of non-azeotropic mixtures of R-22 and R-114 in a heat pump system with a horizontal smooth tube as a condenser. The ranges of parameters, such as heating capacity, mass flow rate of refrigerant and quality were 780-3,480W, 24-71kg/h, and 0-1, respectively. The overall compositions of R-22 in a R-22/114 mixture were 25, 50, 75 and 100 per cent by wight. The results show that the overall condensing heat transfer coefficients for the mixtures were lower than the pure R-22 values. Local heat transfer coefficient of the pure R-22 was hghest at the top of the test tube. The local heat transfer coefficient of R-22/114 (50/50 wt%) at side and bottom of the test tube was higher than that at the top. From the obtained data, a prediction for the condensing heat transfer coefficients of the mixture was done based on the method of Fujii.

  • The propagation rates of advancing and retreating non-premixed edge flames in a slot-jet counterflow were measured as a function of strain rate for varying jet spacing, mixture strength, stoichiometric mixture fractions $(Z_{st})$ and Lewis numbers (Le). Methane and propane fuels were tested and nitrogen and carbon dioxide were used as inerts. As results, we could identify igniting fronts, retreating fronts, two total extinction limits, and short-length edge flames. A burner separation affected to a low extinction limit only. Regimes for advancing and retreating edges together with total extinction were mapped in terms of normalized flame thickness and heat loss factor for $CH_4/O_2/N_2$ mixtures. Edge flames for $Z_{st}$ > 0.5 behaved like a stronger mixture while for $Z_{st}$ < 0.5 showed deteriorated feature, because of relative locations of a non-premixed flame and intermediate species such as CO and $H_2$. Furthermore, due to the relative importance of heat loss, propagating speeds of edge flames were significantly enhanced in $CH_4/O_2/CO_2$ mixtures (Le < 1) demonstrating increasing stability limits. However $C_3H_8/O_2/N_2$ mixtures (Le > 1) showed opposite result.
