  • This article deals with the buckling behaviour of multilayered magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) plate subjected to uniaxial and biaxial compressive (in-plane) loads. The constitutive equations of MEE material are used to derive a finite element (FE) formulation involving the coupling between electric, magnetic and elastic fields. The displacement field corresponding to first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) has been employed. The in-plane stress distribution within the MEE plate existing due to the enacted force is considered to be equivalent to the applied in-plane compressive load in the pre-buckling range. The same stress distribution is used to derive the potential energy functional. The non-dimensional critical buckling load is accomplished from the solution of allied linear eigenvalue problem. Influence of stacking sequence, span to thickness ratio, aspect ratio, load factor and boundary condition on critical buckling load and their corresponding mode shape is investigated. In addition, static deflection of MEE plate under the sinusoidal and the uniformly distributed load has been studied for different stacking sequences and boundary conditions.

  • In this article, the influence of fuzzified uncertain composite elastic properties on non-linear deformation behaviour of the composite structure is investigated under external mechanical loadings (uniform and sinusoidal distributed loading) including the different end boundaries. In this regard, the composite model has been derived considering the fuzzified elastic properties (through a triangular fuzzy function, α cut) and the large geometrical distortion (Green-Lagrange strain) in the framework of the higher-order mid-plane kinematics. The results are obtained using the fuzzified nonlinear finite element model via in-house developed computer code (MATLAB). Initially, the model accuracy has been established and explored later to show the dominating elastic parameter affect the deflection due to the inclusion of fuzzified properties by solving a set of new numerical examples.

  • This paper presents an elastic deformation model of a spindle unit (S/U), which takes into account the non-linear properties of high-speed ball bearings (particularly the effect of high rotational speed). For this, a software for the estimation of the S/U elastic deformation properties was developed and intended for use by S/U designers. A computer aided analysis of the model using the developed software was carried out and experiments showed the significant effect of rotational speed, cutting load and bearing axial preload, and showed some new phenomena, from which the criteria for the choice of bearing axial preload is given.

  • Noise generated by the blunt trailing edge of lifting surfaces is investigated in this study using fluid structure interaction theory. First, through the eddy modeling, noise generation doe to the flow instability on the rigid trailing edge is surveyed. Then the behavior of elastic cantileverd beam is investigated. Parametric study based on various material properties is employed to analyze the motion of the beam. Moreover, each eigenmode approach of cantilevered beam is used to find when flow induced vibration is resonant. To analyze elastic behavior of cantilever beam efficiently, moving grid generation technique based on non-conservative form of Navier-Stokes equation is used. Equation of the motion associated with the cantilever beam is discretized by the Galerkin procedure with forced vibration. As a consequence, behavior of the elastic cantilevered beam is stable when the first mode natural frequency of the material is relatively higher than that of flow induced pressure fluctuation.

  • This study evaluated the effect of restraint of pressure induced bending(PIB) on crack mouth opening displacement(CMOD) for circumferential through-wall crack in pipe by using both elastic and elastic-plastic finite element analyses. The analyses results showed the restraint of PIB was decreased crack opening for a given crack length and tensile stress, and the effect was considerable for large crack and short restraint length. Also, the restraint effect on CMOD was independent on the variation in pipe diameter and decreased with increasing pipe thickness, and it depended on not total restraint length but short restraint length for non-symmetrically restrained. Additionally, the effect of restraint of PIB was more significant in the elastic-plastic analysis results compared with in the elastic analysis results.

  • This research investigates the characteristicsw of NRRO in a 2.5" HDD by using FEM, modal testing and runout analysis, and reduces NRRO using visco-elastic damping material. Most frequency components of NRRO are generated by the defects of ball and rotating race, and they can be determined by the kinematic analysis of ball bearing. It also proposes the novel design of a spindle motor that can reduce NRRO effectively by inserting the visco-elastic damping material to one of the transmission path of NRRO, i.e., where the strain energy is highly concentrate. By this technique, NRRO is reduced by 27%. 27%.

  • Purpose: This study determined the effects of elastic bands in coordinative locomotor training on the body alignment of elementary school baseball players. Methods: Thirty subjects were recruited for this study and separated into two groups: the coordinative locomotor training group with elastic bands (n=15) and the non-training control group (n=15) were five times a week for eight. The trunk inclination, trunk imbalance, kyphotic angle and lordotic angle were used to evaluate body alignment. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvements in trunk inclination, trunk imbalance, kyphotic angle and lordotic angle (p<0.05). Conclusion: Coordinative locomotor training impacted postural alignment in elementary school baseball players.

  • An elastic cable with piecewise constant properties under the action of concentrated static loads is studied analytically. Analytic solutions for catenary cables are combined at the discontinuous points caused by the discontinuous elastic properties or concentrated loads. The application of the boundary conditions at both ends of the multi-component cable results in three algebraic non-linear equations for three unknown parameters, which are determined numerically. The solutions for the shape, tension, elongation, and cross-sectional contraction of the cable are expressed in closed forms. Some examples are given for cases of two- and three-dimensional loads.

  • This paper presents a computation of nonlinear elastic strains that may occur in the leaflet of the Edwards MIRA mechanical heart valve by the applied high blood pressure using the finite element analysis methodology. By adopting numerical analysis techniques of the commercial finite element analysis code, NISA, structural analyses of the Edwards MIRA mechanical heart valve are performed for the slight variation of leaflet thickness to get the elastic strains occurring in the leaflet while the high blood fluid pressures are applied to the leaflet surface in order that the maximum stress occurring in the leaflet may be less than the yield stress of the leaflet material(Si-Alloyed PyC). And so, only the geometric non-linearity is assumed because large geometric nonlinear elastic strains are expected rather than material nonlinear strains due to the applied high blood pressure. Computed linear and nonlinear elastic strains are compared to make sure the non-linearity of the computed elastic strain. The comparison result shows that large elastic strains occur clearly in the very thin leaflets as high blood pressures are applied. However, only the linear elastic strains occur for low blood pressures, and also for thick leaflets even for the high blood pressures. Hence the nonlinear structural analysis is very required in the structural design of a mechanical heart valve.

  • In a steel structural system, noncomposite form deck one-way slab is the plate element supported by four-edged steel beams with unequaled stiffness. However, design criterion has analyzed the one-way slab as the continuous beam. Because the end beams that support the one-way slab have elastic supports t hat cause different deflections according to the support conditions and locations, the bending moments corresponding to the support ic support effect is not considered in the design criterion. Accordingly, to conduct a reasonable estimation of approximate moment coefficients considering the unequaled elastic support conditions, this study analyzes and estimates various models with varia bles for the ratios of live load to dead load and pattern arangements of live loads and span lengths. The analytical methods considering the finite three-dimensional plate element, the two-dimensional elastic support and the infinite stifnes suport are performed.
