Concrete strength monitoring based on the variation of ultrasonic waveform acquired by piezoelectric aggregates

  • Ultrasonic waves provide a non-destructive and sensitive way to monitor the concrete hydration. However, limited works are reported to monitor the evolution of the mechanical parameter at early ages. In this study, modified piezoelectric aggregates are embedded inside a concrete beam to excite and receive primary waves. A hydration index, namely, the variation of ultrasonic waveform (VUW) is developed to characterize the variation of the transmitted waves during the hydration process. The recorded hydration indices are compared with the compressive strength measured by destructive test at different ages. The results show that the VUW is closer to the compressive strength than the other two traditional hydration indices, ultrasonic velocity and wave packet energy. The proposed VUW provides a simple and accurate way to monitor the concrete hydration at early ages.

누설자속탐상의 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of Magnetic Flux Leakage Inspection)

  • 본 논문에서는 누설자속탐상에 대한 전자기 수치해석을 수행하였다. 수치해석방법으로 2차원 유한요소법을 이용하였다. 자기벡터포텐셜을 미지수호 사용하였으며, 자기비선형(磁氣非線型)을 고려한 자장해석을 수행하여 자기포화에 의한 영향을 고려하였다. 수치해석 결과를 검증하기 위하여 실험장치를 자체 제작하여 실험을 수행하였다 시료로는 SM 45C 탄소강을 사용하였으며, 표면에 몇 가지 결함을 생성하였다. 시편과 실험장치를 이용하여 결함을 검출하는 비파괴검사를 수행하였다. 결함의 깊이 변화 및 결함의 형상변화에 대하여 결과를 비교 검토하였다. 수치해석 및 실험에서 유사한 결과를 얻었으며, 수치해석을 통하여 누설자속탐상의 시뮬레이션이 가능함을 보였다.

광 반사방식을 이용한 감염 씨감자 비파괴 선별 기술 개발 (Development of non-destructive measurement method for discriminating disease-infected seed potato using visible/near-Infrared reflectance technique)

  • Pathogenic fungi and bacteria such as Pectobacterium atrosepticum, Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus, Verticillium albo-atrum, and Rhizoctonia solani were the major microorganism which causes diseases in seed potato during postharvest process. Current detection method for disease-infected seed potato relies on human inspection, which is subjective, inaccurate and labor-intensive method. In this study, a reflectance spectroscopy was used to classify sound and disease-infected seed potatoes with the spectral range from 400 to 1100 nm. Partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) with various preprocessing methods was used to investigate the feasibility of classification between sound and disease-infected seed potatoes. The classification accuracy was above 97 % for discriminating disease seed potatoes from sound ones. The results show that Vis/NIR reflectance method has good potential for non-destructive sorting for disease-infected seed potatoes.

  • 본 고는 적외선 열화상의 개념과 적외선열화상 측정윈리 및 카메라 셋팅을 기술하고 적외선열화강(IRT)에 의한 비파괴검사(NDT)의 활용 및 비파괴검사의 진단에 대하여 살펴보았다. 적외선 열화상은 주어진 표면을 따라 온도에 관련된 열패턴의 평가를 통한 정기적인 비접촉, 비파괴 시험의 수행으로 초기에 장비 고장의 예방이 가능하다. 진단 활용으로서, 열적으로 가열된 내부결함이 있는 블록에 대하여 적외선열화상을 이용한 열화상 패턴을 비파괴 기법으로 평가하고, 결함과 열화상패턴간의 특성을 분석하여 열화상 평가 기법에 대하여 논하였다.

Experimental Investigation of Impact-Echo Method for Concrete Slab Thickness Measurement

  • Accurate estimates of in place thickness of early age (3 to 28 days after casting) concrete pavements are needed, where a thickness accuracy of ${\pm}6mm$ is desired. The impact-echo method is a standardized non-destructive technique that has been applied for this task. However, the ability of impact-echo to achieve this precision goal is affected by Vp (measured) and ${\beta}$ (assumed) values that are applied in the computation. A deeper understanding of the effects of these parameters on the accuracy of impact-echo should allow the technique to be improved to meet the desired accuracy goal. In this paper, the results of experimental tests carried out on a range of concrete slabs are reported. Impact-echo thickness estimation errors caused by material property gradients and sensor type are identified. Correction factors to the standard analysis method are proposed to correct the identified errors and to increase the accuracy of the standard method. Results show that improved accuracy can be obtained in the field by applying these recommendations with the standard impact-echo method.

  • Indentation and small punch tests are very powerful methods to monitor the materials reliability since they are very simple, easy and almost non-destructive. First, recently-developed continuous indentation test can provide the more material properties such as hardness, elastic modulus, yield strength, work-hardening exponent, etc., than the conventional hardness test. In our study, the true stress-strain curve was derived from the indentation load-depth curve for spherical indentation. In detail, the strain was able to be obtained from plastic depth/contact radius ratio, and the flow stress was from mean contact pressure through the analysis of elastic-plastic indentation stress field. Secondly, the small punch test was studied to evaluate the fracture toughness and defomation properties such as elastic modulus and yield strength. Like the indentation test, this test can be applied without severe damage of the target structure.

디지털 방사선투과영상의 정밀성 평가에 관한 연구 (An Assessment of the Accuracy for Digital Radiography Image)

  • Film based radiography imaging technique has been applied to the non-destructive test in medical, aircraft, and power industries contributing to the development of the industries. However, the complex process for imaging and analysis has increasingly demanded the reformation of the radiography test. A digital radiography imaging technologies has been com out from the demand. This study was mainly focused on the assessment on the accuracy for the each image from digital radiography test and film radiography test was proven to crate a better image in sensitivity than film radiography test. In the IQI(Image quality indicator) transmission test, one or two more line can be seen in digital image than in film image. When applying to the boiler tube weld, film image is detectable to the 1.0mm depth flaw; and digital image to the 0.5mm depth flaw. As a result of this study, digital radiography technology is determined to enhance the image quality, compared to film radiography technologies

고온 열화한 콘크리트의 강도추정을 위한 비파괴검사 (Nondestructive Test for Strength Estimation of Concrete Deteriorated by High Temperature)

  • 콘크리트는 비교적 내화성이 있는 재료이다. 그러나 화재 등의 고온에 장기 노출될 경우는 콘크리트 강도 등이 급격하게 저하하는 현상이 발생한다. 이와 같은 경우, 저강도 콘크리트를 일반 비파괴검사 강도추정식을 이용하여 추정하는 것은 적절하지 않다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 각종 배합조건의 콘크리트시편을 200, 400, 600, $800^{\circ}C$의 온도변화 조건에서 가열한 후, 초음파속도와 콘크리트강도간의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 아울러 이들 결과를 통해 고온에서 손상된 콘크리트 비파괴검사 강도추정식을 제안하였다.

저압용 전기전자기기에 부분방전시험의 적용을 위한 기초연구 (A Basic Study on the Application of Partial Discharge Test on Low-voltage Electrical and Electronic Devices)

  • This paper deals with the application of a partial discharge (PD) test on low-voltage electrical and electronic devices, which is recently being accepted as a non-destructive and a effective dielectric test method. A comparative analysis combined with the Withstand Voltage Test (WVT) specified in IEC standards was carried out on low-voltage insulation transformers. The results showed that the WVT causes insulation degradation of the specimen during the test by applying high voltage. However, the PD test can be performed in ranges from 30 % to 50 % of the test voltage specified in the WVT. Therefore, the PD test is successfully applicable for a non-destructive test method on low-voltage electrical and electronic devices as a replacement of the WVT.

The tap-scan method for damage detection of bridge structures

  • Damage detection plays a very important role to the maintenance of bridge structures. Traditional damage detection methods are usually based on structural dynamic properties, which are acquired from pre-installed sensors on the bridge. This is not only time-consuming and costly, but also suffers from poor sensitivity to damage if only natural frequencies and mode shapes are concerned in a noisy environment. Recently, the idea of using the dynamic responses of a passing vehicle shows a convenient and economical way for damage detection of bridge structures. Inspired by this new idea and the well-established tap test in the field of non-destructive testing, this paper proposes a new method for obtaining the damage information through the acceleration of a passing vehicle enhanced by a tapping device. Since no finger-print is required of the intact structure, this method can be easily implemented in practice. The logistics of this method is illustrated by a vehicle-bridge interaction model, along with the sensitivity analysis presented in detail. The validity of the method is proved by some numerical examples, and remarks are given concerning the potential implementation of the method as well as the directions for future research.
