  • In this paper, the non-linear static analysis of Timoshenko nanobeams consisting of bi-directional functionally graded material (BFGM) with immovable ends is investigated. The scratching in the FG nanobeam mid-plane, is the source of nonlinearity of the bending problems. The nonlocal theory is used to investigate the non-linear static deflection of nanobeam. In order to simplify the formulation, the problem formulas is derived according to the physical middle surface. The Hamilton principle is employed to determine governing partial differential equations as well as boundary conditions. Moreover, the differential quadrature method (DQM) and direct iterative method are applied to solve governing equations. Present results for non-linear static deflection were compared with previously published results in order to validate the present formulation. The impacts of the nonlocal factors, beam length and material property gradient on the non-linear static deflection of BFG nanobeams are investigated. It is observed that these parameters are vital in the value of the non-linear static deflection of the BFG nanobeam.

  • A $C^{\circ}$ continuous finite element formulation of a higher order displacement theory is presented for predicting linear and geometrically non-linear in the sense of von Karman transient responses of composite and sandwich plates. The displacement model accounts for non-linear cubic variation of tangential displacement components through the thickness of the laminate and the theory requires no shear correction coefficients. In the time domain, the explicit central difference integrator is used in conjunction with the special mass matrix diagonalization scheme which conserves the total mass of the element and included effects due to rotary inertia terms. The parametric effects of the time step, finite element mesh, lamination scheme and orthotropy on the linear and geometrically non-linear responses are investigated. Numerical results for central transverse deflection, stresses and stress resultants are presented for square/rectangular composite and sandwich plates under various boundary conditions and loadings and these are compared with the results from other sources. Some new results are also tabulated for future reference.

  • Because concern on the problem of the limited energy is growing and the wind energy is considered as one of the biggest solutions, the researches on the wind energy and turbine are accomplished vigorously. The simulation tools on the non-linear characteristics of wind turbine system are various and it could describe the non-linear characteristics well but, the tool and methodology to apply non-linear control theory rarely exist. In this paper, the application procedure of sliding mode control theory to 2-DOF non-linear wind turbine system is suggested and the application results of it are also shown as compared with a torque loop control theory.

  • In this paper, hyperbolic shear deformation plate theory is developed for thermal buckling of functionally graded plates with porosity by dividing transverse displacement into bending and shear parts. The present theory is variationally consistent, and accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shearstrains across the thickness and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. Three different patterns of porosity distributions (including even and uneven distribution patterns, and the logarithmic-uneven pattern) are considered. The logarithmic-uneven porosities for first time is mentioned. Equilibrium and stability equations are derived based on the present theory. The non-linear governing equations are solved for plates subjected to simply supported boundary conditions. The thermal loads are assumed to be uniform, linear and non-linear distribution through-the-thickness. A comprehensive parametric study is carried out to assess the effects of volume fraction index, porosity fraction index, aspect ratio and side-to-thickness ratio on the buckling temperature difference of imperfect FG plates.

  • This article is concerned with the investigation of geometrically non-linear vibration response of refined thick porous nanobeams. To this end, non-local theory of elasticity has been adopted to provide the nanobeam formulation. Voids or pores can affect the material characteristics of the nanobeam. So, their effects have been considered in this research and also there are various void distributions. The closed form solution of the non-linear problem has been used that is adopted from previous articles. Then, it is focused on the impacts of non-local field, void distribution, void amount and geometrical properties on non-linear vibrational characteristic of a nano-size beam.

  • A new non-linear modelling of a straight pipe conveying fluid is presented for vibration analysis when the pipe is fixed at both ends. Using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the non-linear Lagrange strain theory, from the extended Hamilton's principle are derived the coupled non-linear equations of motion for the longitudinal and transverse displacements. These equations of motion are discretized by using the Galerkin method. After the discretized equations are linearized in the neighbourhood of the equilibrium position, the natural frequencies are computed from the linearized equations. On the other hand, the time histories for the displacements are also obtained by applying the generalized-$\alpha$ time integration method to the non-linear discretized equations. The validity of the new modelling is provided by comparing results from the proposed non-linear equations with those from the equations proposed by Paidoussis.

  • The non-linear dynamic characteristics of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid are investigated when the pipe is clamped at both ends. To consider the geometric non-linearity for the radial and circumferential displacements, this study adopts the Lagrange strain theory for large deformation and the extensible dynamics based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory for slenderness assumption. By using the Hamilton principle, the non-linear partial differential equations are derived for the in-plane motions of the pipe, considering the fluid inertia forces as a kind of non-conservative forces. The linear and non-linear terms in the governing equations are compared with those in the previous study, and some significant differences are discussed. To investigate the dynamic characteristics of the system, the discretized equations of motion are derived form the Galerkin method. The natural frequencies varying with the flow velocity are computed fen the two cases, which one is the linear problem and the other is the linearized problem in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. Finally, the time responses at various flow velocities are directly computed by using the generalized- method. From these results, we should to describe the non-linear behavior to analyze dynamics of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid more precisely.

  • The present paper concerns the macroscopic overall description of rheologic properties for steel wire and synthetic fibre cables under variable loading actions according to non-linear creep and/or relaxation theory. The general constitutive equations of non-linear creep and/or relaxation of tension elements - cables under one-step and the variable stress or strain inputs using the product and two types of additive approximations of the kernel functions are presented in the paper. The derived non-linear constitutive equations describe a non-linear rheologic behaviour of the cables for a variable stress or strain history using the kernel functions determined only by one-step - constant creep or relaxation tests. The developed constitutive equations enable to simulate and to predict in a general way non-linear rheologic behaviour of the cables under an arbitrary loading or straining history. The derived constitutive equations can be used for the various tension structural elements with the non-linear rheologic properties under uniaxial variable stressing or straining.

  • In this paper, thermal vibration of a nonlocal functionally graded (FG) plates with arbitrary boundary conditions under linear and non-linear temperature fields is explored by developing a refined shear deformation plate theory with an inverse cotangential function in which shear deformation effect was involved without the need for shear correction factors. The material properties of FG nanoplate are considered to be temperature-dependent and graded in the thickness direction according to the Mori-Tanaka model. On the basis of non-classical higher order plate model and Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory, the small size influence was captured. Numerical examples show the importance of non-uniform thermal loadings, boundary conditions, gradient index, nonlocal parameter and aspect and side-to-thickness ratio on vibrational responses of size-dependent FG nanoplates.
