A generalized logit model with mixed effects for categorical data (다가자료에 대한 혼합효과모형)

  • This paper suggests a generalized logit model with mixed effects for analysing frequency data in multi-contingency table. In this model nominal response variable is assumed to be polychotomous. When some factors are fixed but condisered as ordinal and others are random, this paper shows how to use baseline-category logits to incoporate the mixed-effects of those factors into the model. A numerical algorithm was used to estimate model parameters by using marginal log-likelihood.

A Novel Soft Switching PWM·PFC AC·DC Boost Converter

  • This study introduces a novel Soft Switching (SS) Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) AC-DC boost converter. In the proposed converter, the main switch is turned on with Zero Voltage Transition (ZVT) and turned off with Zero Current Transition (ZCT). The main diode is turned on with Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) and turned off with Zero Current Switching (ZCS). The auxiliary switch is turned on and off with ZCS. All auxiliary semiconductor devices are turned on and off with SS. There is no extra current or voltage stress on the main semiconductor devices. The majority of switching energies are transferred to the output by auxiliary transformer. Thus, the current stress of auxiliary switch is significantly reduced. Besides, the proposed converter has simple structure and ease of control due to common ground. The theoretical analysis of the proposed converter is verified by a prototype with 100 kHz switching frequency and 500 W output power. Furthermore, the efficiency of the proposed converter is 98.9% at nominal output power.

  • QFT(Quantitative Feedback Theory) is a very practical design technique that emphasizes the use of feedback for achieving the desired system performance tolerances in despite of plant uncertainty and disturbance. The fundamental concept of QFT is a loop shaping procedure that a suitable controller can be found by shaping a nominal loop transfer function. The loop shaping synthesis involves the identification of a structure and the specialization of parameter optimization of a desired system. This paper presents an improved loop shaping approach of QFT with model validation using GA(Genetic Algorithm). The method presented in this paper removes the problems of iterative operation, transformation error, and model validation in the conventional methods without consideration of frequency domain.

  • This paper presents the method of determining state feedback gains of XPTOS for disk drive servomechanism based BESSEL filter prototype. A typical disk drive actuator can be modeled as second order dynamics for low frequencies. However, the response at higher frequencies shows resonant behavior which cannot be easily modeled. XPTOS consists of the nonlinear control region and the linear control region. In the linear control region, the poles of a second order nominal model of plant must be properly relocated by pole placement technique to attenuate resonant modes at high frequency and to attain minimum time state transition. It is difficult to select position to satisfy this object because velocity feedback gain is subjected to position feedback gain in XPTOS. Here poles of BESSEL filter prototype are selected to determine state feedback gains of XPTOS. Simulation results for disk drive servomechanism using XPTOS having state feedback gains by the proposed method are presented.

  • A dissipation factor standard of decade type having the range of 1 to 0.0001 at the frequency of 1 kHz and 10 kHz was fabricated using "T" networks combined R and C components. The values of the fabricated dissipation factor standard were adjusted within 1% of the nominal values at 0.0001 dial range and 0.05% at the others. This dissipation factor standard is used as a working standard for calibration of a impedance measurement meter at KRISS and as a primary standard of dissipation factor field at NML-SIRIM in Malaysia.

  • The implementation of a robust $H_{\infty}$ Control, which is numerically efficient for uncertain nonlinear dynamics, on longitudinal and lateral autopilots is realised for a quarter scale Piper J3-Cub model accepted as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) under the condition of sensor noise and disturbance effects. The stability and control coefficients of the UAV are evaluated through XFLR5 software, which utilises a vortex lattice method at a predefined flight condition. After that, the longitudinal trim point is computed, and the linearization process is performed at this trim point. The "${\mu}$-Synthesis"-based robust $H_{\infty}$ control algorithm for roll, pitch and yaw displacement autopilots are developed for both longitudinal and lateral linearised nonlinear dynamics. Controller performances, closed-loop frequency responses, nominal and perturbed system responses are obtained under the conditions of disturbance and sensor noise. The simulation results indicate that the proposed control scheme achieves robust performance and guarantees stability under exogenous disturbance and measurement noise effects and model uncertainty.

  • Confocal scanning microscopy (CSM) has an important role as the three-dimensional profiler. An image distribution can be reconstructed by a correlation analysis of spots with the bandwidth of radio frequency. But it is a serious problem for the high performance to align the optical components. Especially, the parasitic motion of focus on the detector gives rise to the fatal distortion of an image profile named the extinction effect while using acousto-optical(AO) deflector. An image profile can be regenerated in CSM with many advantages of non-contact, high speed and high resolution comparatively. In addition to the axial response of the primary focus, the lateral movement of it gives a necessity of the unitary lens to the scanning system. Middle-aged Female Consumers' Buying Behavior of Outdoor Sportswear (중년 여성 소비자의 아웃도어 스포츠웨어 구매행동)

  • The purpose of the study was to explore differences in perceived importance among factors of motives for participating in outdoor sports, product selection criteria of outdoor sportswear and store selection criteria, and in buying frequencies among store types and store locations. Another purpose was to find differences in importance of product selection criteria of outdoor sportswear and store selection criteria and in buying frequencies according to store types and store locations among groups according to motives for participation in outdoor sports. The questionnaire was developed by the researcher and was collected by 221 women aged between 40 and 59. The questionnaire was composed of four parts including participation motives, store selection criteria, and product selection criteria measured by Likert type scale, and demographic characteristics measured by nominal scale. Data were analyzed by frequency test, factor analysis, repeated measure ANOVA, Bonferroni adjusted t-test, cluster analysis by Ward method, ANOVA and Tukey's test as a post-hoc test. The results of the study showed that middle-aged women rated health improvement motive as the most important factor for participating in outdoor sports. Among product selection criteria, comfort was the most important, and among store selection, personal selling was the most important. Among store types, buying frequency in off-price store was the highest and among store locations, buying frequency in stores in a residential area was the highest. Moreover, three groups were classified according to motives for participation in outdoor sports: the health improvement motive group, the conspicuous/sociable motive group, the lower motive group The health improvement motive group rated comfort as the most important factor for product selection criteria, and showed the highest buying frequency in downtown stores. Conspicuous/sociable motive groups valued design and utilization for an everyday wear and shopped more frequently in specialty store and/or in downtown stores.

Knowledge about Risk Factors for Breast Cancer and Having a Close Relative with Cancer Affect the Frequency of Breast Self-Examination Performance

  • Background: Breast cancer incidence and mortality rates are increasing in North-Eastern Brazil and the patients with the disease often presented at advanced stages. The present study was focused on identifying variables that affect women's frequency of breast self- examination (BSE) performance. Materials and Methods: Data on BSE, socio-economic parameters and risk factors for breast cancer were obtained from 417 women from a community in North-Eastern Brazil by a self-informant method. To identify independent variables that affect frequency of BSE, nominal logistic regression analysis was performed. Results: Of 417 women, 330 (79.3%) reported performing BSE. Compared to high-income women, BSE performance by low-income women every month was 7.69 (OD=0.130; CI 95%: 0.044- 0.0386; p=0.000) times lower. Women who did not live in a stable union performed BSE each month 2.73 (OD=0.366; CI 95%: 0.171-0.782; p=0.010) less often than those living in a stable union. BSE performance every month and every six months or every year by women with poor knowledge about risk factors for breast cancer was 3.195 (OD=0.313; CI 95%: 0.141- 0.695; p=0.004) times and 2.028 (OD=0.493; CI 95%: 0.248- 0.979; p=0.043) times lower, compared to women with good knowledge. Participants who had a close relative with cancer performed BSE every month and every six months or every year 2.132 (OD=0.469; CI 95%: 0.220-0.997; p=0.049) times and 2.337 (OD=0.428; CI 95%: 0.219-0.836; p=0.013) times less often, compared to those women without close relatives with cancer. Conclusions: The results of this study indicated that income, marital status, knowledge about risk factors and having a close relative with breast cancer, affect the frequency of BSE performance. Information about risk factors in public health campaigns could additionally strengthen avoidance behaviour and also motivate BSE performance.

Characteristics of High Frequency Ultrasonic Transducer Employing Polyvinylidene Fluoride and Detectability of Flaw in Cr-Ni Steel (PVDF 수침용 고주파수 초음파 탐촉자의 검출장과 Cr-Ni 강에서의 결함 검출능 측정)

  • Recently high frequency ultrasonic transducers to employ polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) or polyvinylidene fluoride trifluoroethylene P(VDF-TrFE) have been used to detect small flaws in immersion testing. The detection field depending on the water path between the transducer and a specimen and the path in a tested specimen was measured using a PVDF transducer with nominal frequency 80MHz. Also, C-scan and B-scan were performed for the specimens made of Cr-Ni steel with the artificial flaws, the flat-bottom holes with diameter ranging from $50{\mu}m$ to $560{\mu}m$ at 12mm depth. As the result, the flaws with diameter larger than $280{\mu}m$ were detected, but the flaws with the ratio of diameter to wavelength smaller than about 0.48 were not detected. That the smaller flaws could not be detected was attributed to the attenuation of high frequency components in the steel specimens.
