  • Impulsive sound and vibration signals in gear are often associated with their faults. Thus these impulsive sound and vibration signals can be used as indicators in the diagnosis of gear fault. The early detection of impulsive signal due to gear fault prevents from complete failure in gear. However it is often difficult to make objective measurement of impulsive signals because of background noise signals. In order to ease the detection of impulsive signals embedded in background noise, we enhance the impulsive signals using adaptive signal processing.

  • Registration of the mandibular movement in patients with temporomandibular joint noise (clicking and/or crepitus) was performed using one of mandibular tracking devices(SAPHON VISI-TRAINER CII,Tokyo Shizai-sha Inc.,Japan). The obtained results were follows : 1. In many cases, the movement pattern of light emitting diode(LED) attached on the mandibular midline showed lateral deviation from a vertical reference line which was pronounced in association with TMJ noise during opening and closing. 2. In patients with unilateral TMJ noise the mandibular midline usually towards the side demonstrating TMJ noise during opening. 3. A distinct V-shaped discontinuity in the trace of velocity of mandibular movement was found at the point of the TMJ noise. 4. In patients with TMJ noise the velocity of mandibular movement at the point of the TMJ noise was decreased rapidly. 5. In several cases, TMJ noise could be eliminated by traning of Rocabado`s control of TMJ rotations.

  • Iris diagnosis based on the color and texture information is one of a novel approach which can represent the current state of a certain organ inside body or the health condition of a person. In analysis of the iris images, there are critical image artifacts which can prevent of use interpretation of the iris textures on images. Here, we developed the iris diagnosis system based on a hand-held typed imaging probe which consists of a single camera sensor module with 8M pixels, two pairs of 400~700 nm LED, and a guide beam. Two original images with different light noise pattern were successively acquired in turns, and the light noise-free image was finally reconstructed and demonstrated by the proposed artifact removal approach.

  • In many medical image devices, dc noise often prevents normal diagnosis. In wireless capsule endoscopy systems, multipath fading through indoor wireless links induces inter-symbol interference (ISI) and indoor electric devices generate impulsive noise in the received signal. Moreover, dc noise, ISI, and impulsive noise are also found in optical fiber communication that can be used in remote medical diagnosis. In this paper, a blind signal processing method based on the biased probability density functions of constant modulus error that is robust to those problems that can cause error propagation in decision feedback (DF) methods is presented. Based on this property of robustness to error propagation, a DF version of the method is proposed. In the simulation for the impulse response of optical fiber channels having slowly varying dc noise and impulsive noise, the proposed DF method yields a performance enhancement of approximately 10 dB in mean squared error over its linear counterpart.

  • To verify the system performance of portable AE leak diagnosis system which can measure with moving conditions, AE activities such as RMS voltage level, AE signal trend, leak rate degree according to AE database, FFT spectrum were measured during operation on total 11 valves of the secondary system in nuclear power plant. AE activities were recorded and analyzed from various operating conditions including different temperature, type of valve, pressure difference, valve size and fluid. The results of this field study are utilized to select the type of sensors, the frequency band for filtering and thereby to improve the signal-to-noise ratio for diagnosis for diagnosis or monitoring of valves in operation. As the final result of application study above, portable type leak diagnosis system by AE was developed. The outcome of the study can be definitely applied as a means of the diagnosis or monitoring system for energy saving and prevention of accident for power plant valve. The purpose of this study is to verify availability of the acoustic emission in-situ monitoring method to the internal leak and operating conditions of the major valves at nuclear power plants. In this study, acoustic emission tests are performed when the pressurized temperature water and steam flowed through glove valve(main steam dump valve) and check valve(main steam outlet pump check valve) on the normal size of 12 and 18 ". The valve internal leak monitoring system for practical field was designed. The acoustic emission method was applied to the valves at the site, and the background noise was measured for the abnormal plant condition. To improve the reliability, a judgment of leak on the system was used various factors which are AE parameters, trend analysis, frequency analysis, voltage analysis and amplitude analysis of acoustic signal emitted from the valve operating condition internal leak.

  • Pig breeding management directly contributes to the profitability of pig farms, and pregnancy diagnosis is an important factor in breeding management. Therefore, the need to diagnose pregnancy in sows is emphasized, and various studies have been conducted in this area. We propose a computer-aided diagnosis system to assist livestock farmers to diagnose sow pregnancy through ultrasound. Methods for diagnosing pregnancy in sows through ultrasound include the Doppler method, which measures the heart rate and pulse status, and the echo method, which diagnoses by amplitude depth technique. We propose a method that uses deep learning algorithms on ultrasonography, which is part of the echo method. As deep learning-based classification algorithms, Inception-v4, Xception, and EfficientNetV2 were used and compared to find the optimal algorithm for pregnancy diagnosis in sows. Gaussian and speckle noises were added to the ultrasound images according to the characteristics of the ultrasonography, which is easily affected by noise from the surrounding environments. Both the original and noise added ultrasound images of sows were tested together to determine the suitability of the proposed method on farms. The pregnancy diagnosis performance on the original ultrasound images achieved 0.99 in accuracy in the highest case and on the ultrasound images with noises, the performance achieved 0.98 in accuracy. The diagnosis performance achieved 0.96 in accuracy even when the intensity of noise was strong, proving its robustness against noise.

  • This paper presents a new approach integrated Case-Based Reasoning with Self- Organization Map(SOM) in diagnosis systems. The causes of faults are obtained by case-base trained from SOM. When the vibration problem of rotating machinery occurs, this provides an exact diagnosis method that shows the fault cause of vibration problem. In order to verify the performance of algorithm, we applied it to diagnose the fault cause of the electric motor.

  • Knowledge based fault diagnosis has a limitation in determining the cause and scheme for the fault, because it detects faults from signal pattern only Therefore, model-based fault diagnosis is requested to determine the fault by analyzing output of the equipment from its dynamic model. This research shows a method how to devise the automaton of system as a model for normal and faulty condition through the reduction of handling data by quantization of vibration signals and the example which is concerning to the bearing of ATM. The developed model based fault diagnosis was applied to detect the faulty bearing of ATM, which results.

  • As rotating machines play an important role in industrial applications such as aeronautical, naval and automotive industries, many researchers have developed various condition monitoring system and fault diagnosis system by applying various techniques such as signal processing and pattern recognition. Recently, fault diagnosis systems using artificial neural network have been proposed. For effective fault diagnosis, this paper used MLP(multi-layer perceptron) network which is widely used in pattern classification. Since using obtained signals without preprocessing as inputs of neural network can decrease performance of fault classification, it is very important to extract significant features of captured signals and to apply suitable features into diagnosis system according to the kinds of obtained signals. Therefore, this paper proposes the decision method of the proper feature vectors about each fault signal for neural-network-based fault diagnosis system. We applied LPC coefficients, maximum magnitudes of each spectral section in FFT and RMS(root mean square) and variance of wavelet coefficients as feature vectors and selected appropriate feature vectors as comparing error ratios of fault diagnosis for sound, vibration and current fault signals. From experiment results, LPC coefficients and maximum magnitudes of each spectral section showed 100 % diagnosis ratios for each fault and the method using wavelet coefficients had noise-robust characteristic.
