Indoor Environment Drone Detection through DBSCAN and Deep Learning

  • In an era marked by the increasing use of drones and the growing demand for indoor surveillance, the development of a robust application for detecting and tracking both drones and humans within indoor spaces becomes imperative. This study presents an innovative application that uses FMCW radar to detect human and drone motions from the cloud point. At the outset, the DBSCAN (Density-based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) algorithm is utilized to categorize cloud points into distinct groups, each representing the objects present in the tracking area. Notably, this algorithm demonstrates remarkable efficiency, particularly in clustering drone point clouds, achieving an impressive accuracy of up to 92.8%. Subsequently, the clusters are discerned and classified into either humans or drones by employing a deep learning model. A trio of models, including Deep Neural Network (DNN), Residual Network (ResNet), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), are applied, and the outcomes reveal that the ResNet model achieves the highest accuracy. It attains an impressive 98.62% accuracy for identifying drone clusters and a noteworthy 96.75% accuracy for human clusters.

  • One of the key issues in practical speech processing is to achieve robust Voice Activity Deteciton (VAD) against the background noise. Most of the statistical model-based approaches have tried to employ equally weighted likelihood ratios (LRs), which, however, deviates from the real observation. Furthermore voice activities in the adjacent frames have strong correlation. In other words, the current frame is highly correlated with previous frame. In this paper, we propose the effective VAD approach based on a minimum classification error (MCE) method which is different from the previous works in that different weights are assigned to both the likelihood ratio on the current frame and the decision statistics of the previous frame.

Filtering Time Optimization in Vehicle Electronic Control Systems Using a Non-Contact Magnetic Sensor and Dual Buffer Structure (차량용 전자 제어 시스템에서 비접촉식 자기장 센서와 이중 버퍼 구조를 이용한 필터링 시간 최적화)

  • The automotive industry is transitioning from traditional internal combustion engines to systems powered by motors, batteries, and various electronic control units. Central to this shift is the micro-controller unit, which processes data from various sensors for real-time environmental awareness and control. This paper explores using non-contact magnetic sensors for sensing vehicle inclination as part of a digital twin implementation. Unlike optical or contact sensors, non-contact magnetic sensors offer robust performance in challenging environments, providing consistent and reliable data under varying conditions. To optimize real-time data processing, we propose a double buffer structure to enhance digital signal processing performance in embedded systems. Experiments using a custom sensor-integrated board demonstrate that the double buffer structure with direct memory access-enabled serial peripheral interface significantly reduces data processing time and improves noise reduction filtering. Our results show that the proposed system can greatly enhance the reliability and accuracy of sensor data, crucial for real-time vehicle control systems. In particular, by using the double buffer structure proposed in this paper, it was possible to secure 8.27 times more data compared to raw data, despite performing additional filtering. The techniques outlined have potential applications in various fields, offering enhanced monitoring and optimization capabilities, thus paving the way for more advanced and efficient vehicle control technologies.

Robust Reference Point and Feature Extraction Method for Fingerprint Verification using Gradient Probabilistic Model (지문 인식을 위한 Gradient의 확률 모델을 이용하는 강인한 기준점 검출 및 특징 추출 방법)

  • A novel reference point detection method is proposed by exploiting tile gradient probabilistic model that captures the curvature information of fingerprint. The detection of reference point is accomplished through searching and locating the points of occurrence of the most evenly distributed gradient in a probabilistic sense. The uniformly distributed gradient texture represents either the core point itself or those of similar points that can be used to establish the rigid reference from which to map the features for recognition. Key benefits are reductions in preprocessing and consistency of locating the same points as the reference points even when processing arch type fingerprints. Moreover, the new feature extraction method is proposed by improving the existing feature extraction using filterbank method. Experimental results indicate the superiority of tile proposed scheme in terms of computational time in feature extraction and verification rate in various noisy environments. In particular, the proposed gradient probabilistic model achieved 49% improvement under ambient noise, 39.2% under brightness noise and 15.7% under a salt and pepper noise environment, respectively, in FAR for the arch type fingerprints. Moreover, a reduction of 0.07sec in reference point detection time of the GPM is shown possible compared to using the leading the poincare index method and a reduction of 0.06sec in code extraction time of the new filterbank mettled is shown possible compared to using the leading the existing filterbank method.

Performance Analysis and Compensation of FH/SC-FDMA System for the High-Speed Communication in Jamming Channel (재밍 채널에서 고속 통신을 위한 주파수 도약 SC-FDMA 통신 시스템의 성능 분석과 보상)

  • FH system is very robust to the jamming interference. OFDM system is very good for the high speed communication system. But, it has high PAPR. SC-FDMA system based on OFT-spread OFDM was proposed to reduce high PAPR. Therefore, in this paper, we like to introduce the FH system into SC-FDMA system, which can be best solution to the jamming hostile environment and for the high power efficiency. Also, OFDM is very sensitive to ICI. Especially, ICI generated by frequency offset and phase noise breaks the orthogonality among sub-carriers, which seriously degrades the system performance. We analyze the performance of the FH SC-FDMA system in the PBJ and MTJ channel. In this paper, the ICI effects caused by phase noise, frequency offset and Doppler effects are analyzed and we like to propose the PNFS algorithm in the equalizer to compensate the ICI influences. Through the computer simulations, we can confirm the performance improvement.

A Study on Performance Improvement Method for the Multi-Model Speech Recognition System in the DSR Environment (DSR 환경에서의 다 모델 음성 인식시스템의 성능 향상 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Although multi-model speech recognizer has been shown to be quite successful in noisy speech recognition, the results were based on general speech front-ends which do not take into account noise adaptation techniques. In this paper, for the accurate evaluation of the multi-model based speech recognizer, we adopted a quite noise-robust speech front-end, AFE, which was proposed by the ETSI for the noisy DSR environment. For the performance comparison, the MTR which is known to give good results in the DSR environment has been used. Also, we modified the structure of the multi-model based speech recognizer to improve the recognition performance. N reference HMMs which are most similar to the input noisy speech are used as the acoustic models for recognition to cope with the errors in the selection of the reference HMMs and the noise signal variability. In addition, multiple SNR levels are used to train each of the reference HMMs to improve the robustness of the acoustic models. From the experimental results on the Aurora 2 databases, we could see better recognition rates using the modified multi-model based speech recognizer compared with the previous method.

  • This paper proposes a robust and computationally efficient algorithm for automatic video object segmentation. For implementing the spatio-temporal segmentation, which aims for efficient combination of the motion segmentation and the color segmentation, an SOM-based hierarchical clustering method in which the segmentation process is regarded as clustering of feature vectors is employed. As results, problems of high computational complexity which required for obtaining exact segmentation results in conventional video object segmentation methods, and the performance degradation due to noise are significantly reduced. A measure of motion vector reliability which employs MRF-based MAP estimation scheme has been introduced to minimize the influence from the motion estimation error. In addition, a noise elimination scheme based on the motion reliability histogram and a clustering validity index for automatically identifying the number of objects in the scene have been applied. A cross projection method for effective object tracking and a dynamic memory to maintain temporal coherency have been introduced as well. A set of experiments has been conducted over several video sequences to evaluate the proposed algorithm, and the efficiency in terms of computational complexity, robustness from noise, and higher segmentation accuracy of the proposed algorithm have been proved.

Cepstral Distance and Log-Energy Based Silence Feature Normalization for Robust Speech Recognition (강인한 음성인식을 위한 켑스트럼 거리와 로그 에너지 기반 묵음 특징 정규화)

  • The difference between training and test environments is one of the major performance degradation factors in noisy speech recognition and many silence feature normalization methods were proposed to solve this inconsistency. Conventional silence feature normalization method represents higher classification performance in higher SNR, but it has a problem of performance degradation in low SNR due to the low accuracy of speech/silence classification. On the other hand, cepstral distance represents well the characteristic distribution of speech/silence (or noise) in low SNR. In this paper, we propose a Cepstral distance and Log-energy based Silence Feature Normalization (CLSFN) method which uses both log-energy and cepstral euclidean distance to classify speech/silence for better performance. Because the proposed method reflects both the merit of log energy being less affected with noise in high SNR and the merit of cepstral distance having high discrimination accuracy for speech/silence classification in low SNR, the classification accuracy will be considered to be improved. The experimental results showed that our proposed CLSFN presented the improved recognition performances comparing with the conventional SFN-I/II and CSFN methods in all kinds of noisy environments.

Noise-robust electrocardiogram R-peak detection with adaptive filter and variable threshold (적응형 필터와 가변 임계값을 적용하여 잡음에 강인한 심전도 R-피크 검출)

  • There have been numerous studies on extracting the R-peak from electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. However, most of the detection methods are complicated to implement in a real-time portable electrocardiograph device and have the disadvantage of requiring a large amount of calculations. R-peak detection requires pre-processing and post-processing related to baseline drift and the removal of noise from the commercial power supply for ECG data. An adaptive filter technique is widely used for R-peak detection, but the R-peak value cannot be detected when the input is lower than a threshold value. Moreover, there is a problem in detecting the P-peak and T-peak values due to the derivation of an erroneous threshold value as a result of noise. We propose a robust R-peak detection algorithm with low complexity and simple computation to solve these problems. The proposed scheme removes the baseline drift in ECG signals using an adaptive filter to solve the problems involved in threshold extraction. We also propose a technique to extract the appropriate threshold value automatically using the minimum and maximum values of the filtered ECG signal. To detect the R-peak from the ECG signal, we propose a threshold neighborhood search technique. Through experiments, we confirmed the improvement of the R-peak detection accuracy of the proposed method and achieved a detection speed that is suitable for a mobile system by reducing the amount of calculation. The experimental results show that the heart rate detection accuracy and sensitivity were very high (about 100%).

Simple Method of Integrating 3D Data for Face Modeling (얼굴 모델링을 위한 간단한 3차원 데이터 통합 방법)

  • Integrating 3D data acquired in multiple views is one of the most important techniques in 3D modeling. However, due to the presence of surface scanning noise and the modification of vertices consisting of surface, the existing integration methods are inadequate to some applications. In this paper, we propose a method of integrating surfaces by using the local surface topology. We first find all boundary vertex pairs satisfying a prescribed geometric condition on adjacent surfaces and then compute 2D planes suitable to each vertex pairs. Using each vertex pair and neighbouring boundary vertices projected to their 2d plane, we produce polygons and divide them to the triangles which will be inserted to empty space between the adjacent surfaces. A proposed method use local surface topology and not modify the vertices consisting of surface to integrate several of surfaces to one surface, so that it is robust and simple. We also integrate the transformed textures to a 2D image plane computed by using a cylindrical projection to composite 3D textured model. The textures will be integrated according to the partition lines which considering attribute of face object. Experimental results on real object data show that the suggested method is simple and robust.
