  • This paper deals with the problem of detection of induction motor incipient faults. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach is applied to detect two types of incipient faults (1). Interturn insulation and (2) Bearing wear faults in single-phase induction motor. The experimental data for five measurable parameters (motor intake current, rotor speed, winding temperature, bearing temperature and the noise) is generated in the laboratory on specially designed single-phase induction motor. Initially, the performance is tested with two inputs i.e. motor intake current and rotor speed, later the remaining three input parameters (winding temperature, bearing temperature and the noise) were added sequentially. Depending upon input parameters, the four ANN based fault detectors are developed. The training and testing results of these detectors are illustrated. It is found that the fault detection accuracy is improved with the addition of input parameters.

  • This paper has focused on the Optimization of the cutting parameters for urning operation based on the Taguchi method. Four cutting parameters. nemely, cutting speed, feed depth of cut and nose radius are optimized with consideration of the surface roughness. The design and analysis of experiments are conducted to study the performance characteristic. The effects of these parameters on the surface roughness have been investigated using signal-to-noise(S/N) ratio and analy-sis of variance(ANOVA). The experiments have been performed using coated tungsten carbide inserts without any cutting fluid. Experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.

  • The performance and noise characteristics of the design parameters of a cross-flow fan are investigated by computational methods. The incompressible Wavier-Stokes equations in moving coordinates are time-accurately solved for obtaining the pressure fluctuations due to the aerodynamic interactions between the impeller blades and the stabilizer, and sound pressure is then computed by the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation. Design parameters of the cross-flow fan include blade setting angle, exit-diffusion angle, and stabilizer installation angle. Also, an optimization of the aforementioned design parameters has been peformed using the Taguchi method.

  • In this paper, object of experiment is to study on the effect of cutting parameters to obtain optimal surface toughness in face turning. Surface roughness is significantly important to be high quality of parts produced by turning process. For this purpose, the optimization of cutting parameters for fan Owning operation is investigated applying the Taguchi method. An orthogonal array, signal-to-noise ratio, and the analysis of variance are employed to evaluate effect of cutting parameters fir face turning. Also confirmation tests were performed to make a comparison between the results predicted from the mentioned correlations and the theoretical results. Cutting experiment is performed without cutting fluid using coated tungsten carbide inserts about workpieces of SM45C.

  • The hydrodynamic coefficients estimation problem is important to develop an underwater vehicle and design a controller for it. In this paper, an identification theory, the Extended Kalman Filter, is applied to this parameter estimation problem. In the case that a process noise is not used, all of the parameters are almost exactly converged to the true values respectively. When a process noise is used, all of the parameters are converged to the true values, too, although some parameter estimates are slightly biased. The comparisons of the two trajectories between those generated by the true parameters and those by the estimated parameters show that the parameter estimation problem is well-solved.

  • A condition monitoring methodology for rotating machinery is proposed based on multivariate statistical analysis. The CMS usually are using the vibration signal amplitude such as acceleration RMS, peak and velocity RMS to detect machine faults but the information is not so enough that CMS cannot perform reliable monitoring. So new parameters are added such as shape factor, crest factor, kurtosis and skewness as time domain parameters and spectrum amplitude of rotating frequency, $2^{nd}$ harmonics and gear mesh frequency etc. as frequency domain parameters. Many parameters are combined to represent the machine state using the Hotelling's $T^2$ statistics. The proposed methodology is tested in laboratory and the on-line experiment has shown that the proposed methodology offers a reliable monitoring for rotating machinery.

  • This research investigates the deployment time of an active hood lift system(AHLS) activated a gunpowder actuator for the passenger vehicle. The deployment time of the system is investigated by changing the principal design parameters of the system. In order to achieve this goal, after introducing the geometric structure and operating principle of the AHLS, the dynamic equations of the system are formulated for deploying motion. Subsequently, using the dynamic equations, the deployment time of the system is determined by changing several geometric design parameters such as location of actuator. It is then identified which design parameters are main factors to affect the deployment time of AHLS.

  • The vibration of a flexible cantilever tube with nonlinear constraints when it is subjected to flow internally with fluids is examined by experiment and theoretical analysis. These kind of studies have often been performed that finds the existence of chaotic motion. In this paper, the important parameters of the system leading to such a chaotic motion such as Young's modulus and coefficient of viscoelasticity in tube material are discussed. The parameters are investigated by means of a system identification so that comparisons are made between numerical analysis using the parameters of a handbook and the experimental results. The chaotic region led by several period-doubling bifurcations beyond the Hopf bifurcation is also re-established with phase portraits and bifurcation diagram so that one can define optimal parameters for system design.
