  • In this paper, using received channel information, we analyze performance in MIMO multiuser system in low-to-medium mobile speed by selecting each user's constellations, powers, and transmit antennas. Given a target of symbol error, we determine each user's constellations, powers, selected tranprobability smit antennas such that the required signal-to-noise(SNR) is minimized for MMSE, V-BLAST receiver according to each user's information and channel estimation information. When we do power control with antenna selection technique through uplink channels of MIMO system in low-to-medium mobile speed, we analyze system performance with wireless channel information from Base-Station(BS) to Users. By simulation, it has been shown that the proposed antenna selection scheme for transmitting data offer better performance improvement than all transmit antennas for transmitting data.

  • Estimations of depth, magnetic orientation, and strength of dipole moments aid discrimination between unexploded ordnance (UXO) and non-UXO using magnetic surveys. Such estimations may be hindered by geologic noise, magnetic clutter, and overlapping tails of nearby dipole fields. An improved method of inversion for anomalies of single or multiple dipoles with arbitrary polarization was developed to include intra-inversion filtering and estimation of background field gradients. Data interpolated to grids are flagged so that only nodes nearest to measurement stations are used. To apply intra-inversion filtering to such data requires a gapped filter. Moreover, for data with significant gaps in coverage, or along the edges or corners of survey areas, intra-inversion filters must be appropriately modified. To that end, edge-adaptive and gapped gradient-nulling filters have been designed and tested. Applications are shown for magnetic field data from Chongcho Lake, Sokcho, Korea and the U. S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.

  • In this paper a simple and effective call admission control (CAC) scheme is proposed for the emerging interleave-division multiple-access (IDMA) systems, supporting a variety of traffic types and offering different quality of service (QoS) requirements and priority levels. The proposed scheme is signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) evolution based CAC (SE-CAC). The key idea behind the scheme is to take advantage of the SINR evolution technique in the process of making admission decisions, which is developed from the effective chip-by-chip (CBC) multi-user detection (MUD) process in IDMA systems. By virtue of this semi-analytical technique, the MUD efficiency can be estimated accurately. Additionally, the computational complexity can be considerably reduced. These features make the scheme highly suitable for IDMA systems, which can combat intra-cell interference efficiently with simple CBC MUD. Analysis and simulation results show that compared to the traditional CAC scheme considering MUD efficiency as a constant, the proposed SE-CAC scheme can guarantee high power efficiency and throughput for multimedia traffic even in heavy load conditions, illustrating the high efficiency of CBC MUD. Furthermore, based on the SINR evolution, the SE-CAC can make accurate estimation of available resource considering the effect of MUD, leading to low outage probability as well as low blocking and dropping probability.

  • In this paper, authors have been evaluated the Frame Error Rate (FER) performance of IEEE 802.11 a/g/p standard 5 GHz frequency band WLAN over Rayleigh and Rician distributed fading channels in presence of Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based transceiver is implemented by using real-time signal processing frameworks (IEEE 802.11 Blocks) in GNU Radio Companion (GRC) and Ettus USRP N200 is used to process the symbol over the wireless radio channel. The FER is calculated for each sub-carrier conventional modulation schemes used by OFDM such as BPSK, QPSK, 16, 64-QAM with different punctuated coding rates. More precise SNR is computed by modifying the SNR calculation process of YANS and NIST error rate model to estimate more accurate FER. Here, real-time signal constellations, OFDM signal spectrums etc. are also observed to find the effect of multipath propagation of signals through flat and frequency selective fading channels. To reduce the error rate due to the multipath fading effect and Doppler shifting, channel estimation (CE) and equalization techniques such as Least Square (LS) and training based adaptive Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm are applied in the receiver. The simulation work is practically verified at GRC by turning into a pair of Software Define Radio (SDR) as a simultaneous transceiver.

  • This paper proposes a practical object shape reconstruction method using an underwater imaging sonar. In order to reconstruct the object shape, three methods are utilized. Firstly, the vertical field of view of imaging sonar is modified to narrow angle to reduce an uncertainty of estimated 3D position. The wide vertical field of view makes the incorrect estimation result about the 3D position of the underwater object. Secondly, simple noise filtering and range detection methods are designed to extract a distance from the sonar image. Lastly, a low pass filter is adopted to estimate a probability of voxel occupancy. To demonstrate the proposed methods, object shape reconstruction for three sample objects was performed in a basin and results are explained.

  • For more reliable estimation of soil-structure interaction and seismic source and attenuation properties, site amplification function should be considered. This study use the Nakamura's method (1989) for estimating site amplification though various methods for the same purpose have been proposed. This method was originally applied to the surface waves of background noise and therefore there are some limitation for applications to general wave energy. However, recently this method has been extended and applied to the S wave energy successfully. This study applied the method to the coda wave energy which is equivalent to the backscattered S wave energy. We used more than 60 observed ground motions from 5 earthquakes which occurred recently, with magnitude range from 3.6 to 5.1 Each station showed characteristic site amplification property in low-, high- and resonance frequency ranges. In the case of comparing these results to those from S wave energy, lots of information to the site classification work can be gained. Moreover, removal of site amplification can give us more reliable seismic source parameters.

  • Ground Motion Prediction Equations (GMPEs) are essential tools in seismic hazard analysis. With the introduction of probabilistic approaches for the estimation of seismic response of structures, also known as, performance based earthquake engineering framework; new tasks are defined for response spectrum such as the reference criterion for effective structure-specific selection of ground motions for nonlinear time history analysis. One of the recent efforts to introduce a high quality databank of ground motions besides the corresponding selection scheme based on the broadband spectral consistency is the development of SIMBAD (Selected Input Motions for displacement-Based Assessment and Design), which is designed to improve the reliability of spectral values at all natural periods by removing noise with modern proposed approaches. In this paper, a new global GMPE is proposed by using selected ground motions from SIMBAD to improve the reliability of computed spectral shape indicators. To determine regression coefficients, 204 pairs of horizontal components from 35 earthquakes with magnitude ranging from Mw 5 to Mw 7.1 and epicentral distances lower than 40 km selected from SIMBAD are used. The proposed equation is compared with similar models both qualitatively and quantitatively. After the verification of model by several goodness-of-fit measures, the epsilon values as the spectral shape indicator are computed and the validity of available prediction equations for correlation of the pairs of epsilon values is examined. General consistency between predictions by new model and others, especially, in short periods is confirmed, while, at longer periods, there are meaningful differences between normalized residuals and correlation coefficients between pairs of them estimated by new model and those are computed by other empirical equations. A simple collapse assessment example indicate possible improvement in the correlation between collapse capacity and spectral shape indicators (${\varepsilon}$) up to 20% by selection of a more applicable GMPE for calculation of ${\varepsilon}$.

  • A fundamental assumption in conventional linear predictive coding (LPC) analysis procedure is that the input to an all-pole vocal tract filter is white process. In the case of periodic inputs, however, a pitch bias error is introduced into the conventional LP coefficient. Multi-pulse (MP) LP analysis can reduce this bias, provided that an estimate of the excitation is available. Since the prediction error of conventional LP analysis can be modeled as the sum of an MP excitation sequence and a random noise sequence, we can view extracting MP sequences from the prediction error as a classical detection and estimation problem. In this paper, we propose an algorithm in which the locations and amplitudes of the MP sequences are first obtained by applying a likelihood ratio test (LRT) to the prediction error, and LP coefficients free of pitch bias are then obtained from the MP sequences. To verify the performance enhancement, we iterate the above procedure with adaptive threshold at each step.

  • This paper presents an adaptive AEC(acoustic echo canceller) based on the wavelet transform using M-channel subband QMF filter banks. The proposed algorithm improves the performance of AEC with a realtime process by a low complexity of wavelet transform filter banks, a subband processing and a orthogonality of wavelet subband filter. Adaptive filter coefficients of each subband are updated using LMS algorithm with a low complexity and a easy realization for a realtime processing and a reduction of hardware cost. For a input signal, a white Gaussian noise and a real speech signal with a environment noises are used for a performance estimation of the proposed algorithm. As a result of computer simulation, the proposed AEC has a low asymptotic error, a low computation complexity and a robust performance.
