  • This thesis proposes an effi챠ent method for extracting a prostate volume from 3D ultrasound image by using wavelet transform and SVM classification. In the proposed method, a modulus image for each 2D slice is generated by averaging detail images of horizontal and vertical orientations at several scales, which has the sharpest local maxima and the lowest noise power compared to those of all single scales. Prostate contour vertices are determined accurately using a SVM classifier, where feature vectors are composed of intensity and texture moments investigated along radial lines. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields absolute mean distance of on average 1.89 pixels when the contours obtained manually by an expert are used as reference data.

  • For construction projects, it is required to estimate the Environmental Management Cost(EMC) for pollution prevention, using the calculation standards prescribed in the Construction Technology Management Law(CTML). However, the EMC standards are difficult to utilize without definite site information. Therefore, it is needed a new calculation method reflecting project site information. According to the definition of EMC in the CTML, this study identifies the EMC items and classifies them into the pollution types such as air, water, noise, waste and others. With this EMC classification, the stud:』 analyzes using the SPSS the EMC for the 78 new multi-housing projects, which were executed during the past three years, 2000-2002. And then an EMC estimating matrix is developed with simple information such as site location and size of area from historical data. The proposed matrix can be effectively used to check and control budgeting and estimating the EMC of the multi-housing projects. In addition, the proposed EMC matrix are validated through a case study.

  • Imaging spectrometry or hyperspectral imaging is a recent development that makes possible quantitative and qualitative measurement for food quality and safety. This paper presents the research results that a hyperspectral imaging system can be used effectively for detecting fecal (from duodenum, cecum, and colon) and ingesta contamination on poultry carcasses from the different feed meals (wheat, mile, and corn with soybean) for poultry safety inspection. A hyperspectral imaging system has been developed and tested for the identification of fecal and ingesta surface contamination on poultry carcasses. Hypercube image data including both spectral and spatial domains between 430 and 900 nm were acquired from poultry carcasses with fecal and ingesta contamination. A transportable hyperspectral imaging system including fiber optically fabricated line lights, motorized lens control for line scans, and hypercube image data from contaminated carcasses with different feeds are presented. Calibration method of a hyperspectral imaging system is demonstrated using different lighting sources and reflectance panels. Principal Component and Minimum Noise Fraction transformations will be discussed to characterize hyperspectral images and further image processing algorithms such as image band ratio of dual-wavelength images and its histogram stretching with thresholding process will be demonstrated to identify fecal and ingesta materials on poultry carcasses. This algorithm could be further applied for real-time classification of fecal and ingesta contamination on poultry carcasses in the poultry processing line.

  • In this paper, the fractal image compression using the minimizing method of domain region is proposed. It is minimize to domain regions in the process of decoding. Since the conventional fractal decoding applies to IFS(iterative function system) for the total range blocks of the decoded image, its computational complexity is a vast amount. In order to improve this using the number of the referenced times to the domain blocks for the each range blocks, a classification method which divides necessary and unnecessary regions for IFS is suggested. If necessary regions for IFS are reduced, the computational complexity is reduced. The proposed method is to define the minimum domain region that a necessary region for IFS is minimized in the encoding algorithms. That is, a searched region of the domain is limited to the range regions that is similar with the domain regions. So, the domain region is more overlapped. Therefore, there is not influence on image quality or PSNR(peak signal-to-noise ratio). And it can be a fast decoding by reduce the computational complexity for IFS in fractal image decoding.

  • In general, the fidelity of the aircraft dynamic model is verified by comparison with the flight test results of the target aircraft. Therefore, the reference flight data for performance comparisons must be extracted. This process requires a lot of time and manpower to extract useful data from the vast quantity of flight test data containing various noise for comparing fidelity. In particular, processing of flight data is complex because rotorcraft have high non-linearity characteristics such as coupling and wake interference effect and perform various maneuvers such as hover and backward flight. This study defines flight data processing criteria for rotorcraft and provides procedures and methods for automated processing of static and dynamic flight data using data mining techniques. Finally, the methods presented are validated using flight data.

  • LiDAR data processing steps include noise removal, filtering, classification, segmentation, shape recognition, modeling, and quality assessment. This paper focuses on modeling and accuracy evaluation of 3D objects with curved surfaces. The appropriate modeling functions were determined by analyzing surface patch shape. Existing methods for modeling curved surface features require linearization, initial approximation, and iteration of the non-linear functions. However, proposed method could directly estimate the unknown parameters of the modeling functions. The results demonstrate feasibility of the proposed method. The proposed method was applied to the simulated and real building data of hemi-spherical and semi-cylindrical surfaces. The parameters and accuracy of the modeling functions were estimated. It is expected that the proposed method would contribute to automatic modeling of various objects.

  • Sample training data for machine learning often contain irrelevant information or redundant concept. It is also the case that the original data may include noise. If the information collected for constructing learning model is not reliable, it is difficult to obtain accurate information. So the system attempts to find relations or regulations between features and categories in the teaming phase. The feature selection is to remove irrelevant or redundant information before constructing teaming model. for improving its performance. Existing feature selection methods assume that the distribution of documents is balanced in terms of the number of documents for each class and the length of each document. In practice, however, it is difficult not only to prepare a set of documents with almost equal length, but also to define a number of classes with fixed number of document elements. In this paper, we propose a new feature selection method that considers the impurities among the words and unbalanced distribution of documents in categories. We could obtain feature candidates using the word impurity and eventually select the features through unbalanced distribution of documents. We demonstrate that our method performs better than other existing methods via some experiments.

  • While an object detection algorithm plays a key role in many computer vision applications, it requires extensive computation to show robustness under varying lightning and geometrical distortions. Recently, some approaches formulate the problem in a classification framework and show improved performances in object recognition. Among them, random fern algorithm drew a lot of attention because of its simple structure and high recognition rates. However, it reveals performance degradation under the illumination changes and noise addition, since it computes patch features based only on pixel intensities. In this paper, we propose a new structure of combined random fern which incorporates depth information into the conventional random fern reflecting 3D structure of the patch. In addition, a new structure of object tracker which exploits the combined random fern is also introduced. Experiments show that the proposed method provides superior performance of object detection under illumination change and noisy condition compared to the conventional methods.

  • The Global Positioning System (GPS) is widely utilized for commercial and military applications to estimate the location of the user or object. The GPS suffers from various intentional or unintentional interferers and it requires estimating the accurate angle-of-arrival (AOA) of the GPS signal to suppress interference signals and to efficiently detect GPS data. Since the power of GPS signal is very low comparing with the noise and interference signals, it is extremely difficult to estimate GPS AOA before despreading. Although AOA of GPS signal is usually estimated after despreading, it requires choosing the GPS AOA among results of AOA estimation because they include AOAs of interference and GPS signals when existing high-power interferers. In this paper, we propose the efficient choosing algorithm of the GPS signal among the estimated AOAs. The proposed algorithm compares the estimated results before despreading and after despreading for choosing AOA of GPS signal. Computer simulation examples are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Evaluation of shape similarity for 3D models is essential in many areas - medicine, mechanical engineering, molecular biology, etc. Moreover, as 3D models are commonly used on the Web, many researches have been made on the classification and retrieval of 3D models. In this paper, we describe methods for 3D shape representation and major concepts of similarity evaluation, and analyze the key features of recent researches for shape comparison after classifying them into four categories including multi-resolution, topology, 2D image, and statistics based methods. In addition, we evaluated the performance of the reviewed methods by the selected criteria such as uniqueness, robustness, invariance, multi-resolution, efficiency, and comparison scope. Multi-resolution based methods have resulted in decreased computation time for comparison and increased preprocessing time. The methods using geometric and topological information were able to compare more various types of models and were robust to partial shape comparison. 2D image based methods incurred overheads in time and space complexity. Statistics based methods allowed for shape comparison without pose-normalization and showed robustness against affine transformations and noise.
