A NOTE ON CONSTRUCTING $2^{n}3^1$ AND $2^{1}3^3$ DESIGNS WHEN LINEAR TERMS ARE ESSENTIAL

  • Under the assumption that the three-level factors are quantitative, the linear effects are taken more attention than the quadratic effects of the interaction terms. Webb (1971) presented some small incomplete factorial designs that are mixed two- and three-level designs with 20 or fewer runs. The designs provided the estimating linear-by-linear components of interactions between the three-level factors; moreover, they could also offer estimation of interactions that interest the experiments. Webb used ad hoc methods to find these plans; hence, there was still no unified structure to those experiments. In this paper, we develop the methods to construct the $2^{n}3^3$ and $2^{1}3^3$ designs. The designs constructed by these methods not only supply orthogonal estimates of all the main effects but also permit estimation of all the two-factor interactions not involving the quadratic effects. Furthermore, the designs we find are nearly orthogonal.

Toward the Application of a Critical-Chain-Project-Management-based Framework on Max-plus Linear Systems

  • We focus on discrete event systems with a structure of parallel processing, synchronization, and no-concurrency. We use max-plus algebra, which is an effective approach for controller design for this type of system, for modeling and formulation. Since a typical feature of this type of system is that the initial schedule is frequently changed due to unpredictable disturbances, we use a simple model and numerical examples to examine the possibility of applying the concepts of the feeding buffer and the project buffer of critical chain project management (CCPM) on max-plus linear discrete event systems in order to control the occurrence of an undesirable state change. The application of a CCPM-based framework on a max-plus linear discrete event system was proven to be effective.

An interactive face search procedure for multiple objective linear programming

  • This paper presents a new interactive procedure for multiple objective linear programming problem (MOLP). In practical multiple objective linear programming applications, there is usually no need for the decision maker to consider solutions which are not efficient. Therefore, the interactive procedure presented here searches only among efficient solutions and terminates with a solution that is guaranteed to be efficient. It also can converge to nonextreme efficient final solutions rather than being restricted to only extreme efficient points of the feasible set. The procedure does not require sophisticated judgements or inputs from the decision maker. One of the most attractive features of the procedure however, is that the method allows the DM to examine the efficient faces it finds. As iteration goes, the DM can explore a wide variety of efficient faces rather than efficient faces confined to only certain subregion of the feasible set of problem MOLP since the efficient faces that the procedure finds need not be adjacent. This helps the DM explore the nature of the efficient set of problem MOLP and also helps the DM have confidence with a final solution. For these reasons, I feel that the procedure offer significant promise in solving multiple objective linear programs rapidly and in a satisfying manner to the DM.

  • Linear alkyl sulfonates (LAS) constitute a large fraction of the surfactants used in cleaning processes in households, trade and industry Despite the industrial significance and the possible environmental impact of these compounds, the fast and inexpensive determination of LAS concentrations is still a difficult task. In this study, near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy which is a rapid spectroscopic analysis method compared with a traditional analytical method for the measurement of LAS concentration such as HPLC, GC and standard wet chemistry method. NIR spectra of LAS between 0.313 and 25.0% (w/v) in water were utilized to develop a calibration model. The best results (R = 0.998, SEP = 0.244% (w/v)) obtained by using partial least-squares regression with spectral data treatment and 2nd derivatization were comparable to the results (SEC = 0.186% (w/v), SEP = 0.206% (w/v)) obtained by using multiple linear least-squares regression (MLR). However, models based on derivative spectra have no significant advantage with MLR.

  • Both the neural network classifier utilizing multi-layer perceptron and the linear tree classifier composed of hierarchically structured linear discriminating functions can form arbitrarily complex decision boundaries in the feature space and have very similar decision making processes. In this paper, a new method for automatically choosing the number of neurons in the hidden layers and for initalzing the connection weights between the layres and its supporting theory are presented by mapping the sequential structure of the linear tree classifier to the parallel structure of the neural networks having one or two hidden layers. Experimental results on the real data obtained from the military ship images show that this method is effective, and that three exists no siginificant difference in the classification acuracy of both classifiers.

  • 본 논문의 Taylor 다항식에 의해 선형 시변 시스템을 해석하는 한 효과적인 방법을 제안한다. Sparis와 Mouroutsos에 의한 방법은 구해야 할 상태 벡타가 닫혀진 형태(closed form)로 구해지지 않고 또한 사용하는 항이 증가할 때 큰 차원의 선형 대수 방정식을 출어야 하는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 반면에 본 논문에서 제안된 방법은 상태 벡타가 닫혀진 형태로 구해지며 선형 대수 방정식을 풀 필요가 없다.

  • Linear motor is able to produce line movement without rotary-to-line converter at the system required line moving. Thus Linear motor has no gear, screw, belt for line movement. Therefore it has some advantage which decrease friction loss, noise, vibration, maintenance effort and prevent decay of control performance due to backlash. This paper proposes the estimation method of unknown parameters from the BLDC Linear motor and determine the PI controller gain through this estimation. Each control movement that is current, speed, position control, and PWM wave generation is performed on Processor, which is DSP(Digital Signal Processor), having high speed performance. PI theory is adopted to each for controller for control behavior More fast convergence to command position is accomplished by applying the new velocity locus which derived from position error.

  • For high-accuracy position control of a linear motor, it has been proposed a nonlinear controller including a synchronization algorithm. Linear motors are easily affected by force ripple, friction, and parameter variations because there is no mechanical transmission to reduce the effects of model uncertainties and external disturbances. Synchronization error is also caused by skew motion, model uncertainties, and force disturbance on each axis. Nonlinear effects such as friction and ripple force are estimated and compensated for. The synchronization algorithm is used to reduce the synchronous error of the two side pillars. The performance of the controller is evaluated by computer simulations.

  • In the future light rail vehicle is more attractive than subway, because of construction time and cost. For light rail vehicle are two types of traction motors. one is traditional rotating type and the other is linear motor. Linear motor is not better in consideration of efficiency and power factor than rotating type. But the motor needs no translation equipment for linear motion and with them can be constructed low floor vehicle. In this paper will be designed a linear induction motor with consideration of operational condition and analysed operating characteristics using FEM program and equivalent circuit.

대칭-비대칭 공진모드를 이용한 초음파 리니어 모터의 구동특성 연구 (A Study on The Driving Characteristics of Ultrasonic Linear Motor Using Symmetric And Anti-Symmetirc Resonance Modes)

  • Transducer for ultrasonic linear motor with the symmetric and anti-symmetric modes was studied. The ultrasonic linear motor consists of two Langevin type piezoelectric vibrators that cross at right angles with each other in tip. In order to excite symmetric and anti-symmetric resonance modes, the transducer must have a phase shift of 90 degree in space and time. Therefore, the tip of transducer moves on an elliptical motion. In this paper, the finite element analysis was used to optimize dimension and displacement of the transducer. The ultrasonic motor was fabricated using the simulated result and the driving characteristics were measured. No-load velocity was 0.28[m/s] and the maximum efficiency was 30[%] in resonance frequency.
