Nb이 첨가된 Ti합금의 미세 조직 및 산화 거동 (Effects of Nb Addition on Microstructure and Oxidation Behavior of Ti Alloy)

  • The oxidation behavior of Ti-Nb alloys was studied in dry atmosphere. After vacuum arc melting and hot rolling treatment, Ti-Nb alloys were oxidized at $450^{\circ}C$$750^{\circ}C$. The oxidation behaviors between matrix and oxide scale were analyzed by SEM, XPS and XRD. Ti-Nb alloys had higher oxidation resistance than pure Ti at $750^{\circ}C$. XPS analysis of oxide film revealed that $TiO_2$ oxide was formed on the top of surface. The weight gains during the oxidation increase rapidly at temperature above $600^{\circ}C$ which obey the parabolic law.

Effect of Niobium on the Electronic Properties of Passive Films on Zirconium Alloys

  • The effects of Niobium on the structure and properties(especially electric properties) of passive film of Zirconium alloys in pH 8.5 buffer solution are examined by the photo-electrochemical analysis. For Zr-xNb alloys (x = 0, 0.45, 1.5, 2.5 wt%), photocurrent began to increase at the incident energy of 3.5 ~ 3.7 eV and exhibited the $1^{st}$ peak at 4.3 eV and the $2^{nd}$ peak at 5.7 eV. From $(i_{ph}hv)^{1/2}$ vs. hv plot, indirect band gap energies $E_g{^1}$= 3.01~3.47 eV, $E_g{^2}$= 4.44~4.91 eV were obtained. With increasing Nb content, the relative photocurrent intensity of $1^{st}$ peak significantly increased. Compared with photocurrent spectrum of thermal oxide of Zr-2.5Nb, It was revealed that $1^{st}$ peak in photocurrent spectrum for the passive film formed on Zr-Nb alloy was generated by two types of electron transitions; the one caused by hydrous $ZrO_2$ and the other created by Nb. Two electron transition sources were overlapped over the same range of incident photon energy. In the photocurrent spectrum for passive film formed on Zr-2.5Nb alloy in which Nb is dissolved into matrix by quenching, the relative photocurrent intensity of $1^{st}$ peak increased, which implies that dissolved Nb act as another electron transition source.

  • Lead Oxide를 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 및 10.0 mol%를 함유하는 Niobium Oxide-Lead Oxide계의 전기전도도를 2.0${\times}$$10^{-1}$${\sim}$1.0${\times}$$10^{-5}$ atm의 산소 부분압력하에서 700${\sim}$$1100^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 측정하였다. 본 계의 전기전도도는 PbO mol%가 증가함에 따라 감소하며 $10^{-5}$${\sim}$$10^{-1}$ $ohm^{-1}$ $cm^{-1}$ 범위에서 변하였다. 전기전도도의 활성화에너지는 약 1.70 eV이다. 전기전도도의 산소 부분압력 의존성은 높은 산소 부분압력에서는 이온 및 전자 전도성을 가진 혼합 전도체이고 낮은 산소 부분압력에서는 산소 부분압력의 -1/4승에 비례하는 의존성을 가진 n-type 전자 전도성을 나타내고 있다. 그 계의 결합구조와 전기전도 메카니즘을 얻어진 데이타와 관련시켜 논의하였다.

  • Niobium oxide($Nb_2O_5$) films were deposited on p-type Si wafers at room temperature using in-line pulsed-DC magnetron sputtering system with various frequencies. The different duty ratios were obtained by varying the frequency of pulsed DC power from 100 to 300 kHz at the fixed reverse time of $1.5{\mu}s$. From the thickness of the sputtered $NbO_x$ films, it was possible to obtain much higher deposition rate in case of pulsed-DC sputtering than RF sputtering. However, the similar leakage currents and structural characteristics were obtained from the metal-insulator-semiconductor(MIS) structure fabricated with the $NbO_x$ films and the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) results in spite of the different deposition rates. From the experimental results, the $NbO_x$ films sputtered by pulsed-DC sputtering are expected to be used in the fabrication process instead of RF sputtering.

Effects of Cr and Nb on the nigh Temperature Oxidation of TiAl

  • From isothermal and cyclic oxidation tests on thermomechanically treated Ti-5%Al, Ti47%Al-4%Cr, and Ti-48%Al-2%Cr-2%Nb alloys at 800, 900, 1000℃ in air, it was found that Ti-48%Al-2%Cr-2%Nb and Ti-47%Al-4%Cr had the best and the worst oxidation resistance, respectively. The oxide scales consisted primarily of TiO₂and Al₂O₃, with and without a small amount of dissolved Cr and 7b ions, depending on the alloy composition. These ions were slightly enriched inside the inner oxide layer, and strongly enriched around the scale-matrix interface. The outer TiO₂-rich layer was formed by the outward diffusion of Ti ions, while the inner (TiO₂+A1₂O₃,) mixed layer was formed by the inward transport of oxygen. The outward movement of Al ions farmed the intermediate Al₂O₃-rich Iayer, above talc prepared alloys.

  • Transient liquid phase processing was investigated to decrease processing temperatures while maintaining useful piezoelectric properties in the lead zirconate titanate (PZT) system. Niobium oxide$(Nb_2O_5)$ modified crystalline PZT (PZTN) powder was combined with lead silicate $(PS; PbO-SiO_2)$ glass powder and crystalline titania, zirconia, and niobia. Firing above the melting temperature of the lead silicate $(PS; Tm \risingdotseq\; 714^{\circk}C)$ resulted in liquid phase densification of the PZTN followed by dissolution of the titania, zirconia, and niobia into the liquid phase, and crystallization of additional PZTN. The addition of crystalline titania, zirconia, and niobia to react with the lead oxide from the lead silicate phase resulted in an increase in the dielectric and Piezoelectric properties.

금속소부도재관용 Ni-Cr 합금에 첨가된 Nb이 계면특성에 미치는 영향 (A study on interfacial characteristics of Ni-Cr alloy by Nb content for Porcelain Fused to Metal Crown)

  • The effect of Nb on interfacial bonding characteristics of Ni-Cr alloy for porcelain fused to metal crown (PFM) has been studied in order to investigate oxide layer. A specimens, which is 0.8mm in thickness, were fired at 1,000$^{\circ}C$ with four tests such as air, vacuum, air for 5 minutes and vacuum for 5 minutes in order to examine an oxide behavior of alloy surface generated by the adding of Nb to be controlled at a rate of 0, 1, 3 and 5. It observed oxide film form of the fired specimens with optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM), and chemical formation of them with energy disperse X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The other specimens, which is 2mm in thickness, were fired at 1,000$^{\circ}C$ with air and vacuum in order to analyze the diffusion behaviors of alloy-porcelain interface by X-ray dot mapping. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The observation of microstructure of specimens by SEM showed that the more Nb content is high, the more much intermediate compound of rich Nb is observed. 2. The surface morphology of oxide film is most dense in 3% Nb. The heat treatment in air constitutes denser oxide film than heat treatment under vacuum. 3. The diffusion behavior of oxide layer by X-ray dot mapping showed that Si, Al of porcelain diffuse toward metal.

  • To elucidate the effects of alloying elements on the characteristics of microstructure and high temperature oxidation of cast austenitic stainless steel, a thermodynamic calculation, a cyclic oxidation test, a X-ray diffraction, a scanning electron microscopy-back scattered electron, a electron probe microanalysis were conducted. The thermodynamic calculation for the effect of vanadium (V) addition on the formation of various precipitates leads to a decrease of chromium (Cr)-rich $M_{23}C_6$ carbides due to the formation of M (C, N) carbo-nitrides containing V and / or niobium (Nb). The V added alloy increased the resistance to high temperature oxidation due to a decrease of Cr-depleted zone deteriorating the oxidation resistance and due to the V-enriched oxide layer formed in inner oxide layer blocking the outward transport of cations.

THE EFFECT OF HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN CONTENTS ON HYDRIDE REORIENTATIONS OF ZIRCONIUM ALLOY CLADDING TUBES

  • To investigate the effect of hydrogen and oxygen contents on hydride reorientations during cool-down processes, zirconium-niobium cladding tube specimens were hydrogen-charged before some specimens were oxidized, resulting in 250 ppm and 500 ppm hydrogen-charged specimens containing no oxide and an oxide thickness of $0.38{\mu}m$ at each surface. The nonoxidized and oxidized hydrogen-charged specimens were heated up to $400^{\circ}C$ and then cooled down to room temperature at cooling rates of $0.3^{\circ}C/min$ and $8.0^{\circ}C/min$ under a tensile hoop stress of 150 MPa. The lower hydrogen contents and the slower cooling rate generated a larger fraction of radial hydrides, a longer radial hydride length, and a lower ultimate tensile strength and plastic elongation. In addition, the oxidized specimens generated a smaller fraction of radial hydrides and a lower ultimate tensile strength and plastic elongation than the nonoxidized specimens. This may be due to: a solubility difference between room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$; an oxygen-induced increase in hydrogen solubility and radial hydride nucleation energy; high temperature residence time during the cool-down; or undissolved circumferential hydrides at $400^{\circ}C$.

High-temperature interaction of oxygen-preloaded Zr1Nb alloy with nitrogen

  • Potential air ingress scenarios during accidents in nuclear reactors or spent fuel pools have raised the question of the influence of air, especially of nitrogen, on the oxidation of zirconium alloys, which are used as fuel cladding tubes and other structure materials. In this context, the reaction of zirconium with nitrogen-containing atmospheres and the formation of zirconium nitride play an important role in understanding the oxidation mechanism. This article presents the results of analysis of the interaction of the oxygen-preloaded niobium-bearing alloy $M5^{(R)}$ with nitrogen over a wide range of temperatures ($800-1400^{\circ}C$) and oxygen contents in the metal alloy (1-7 wt.%). A strongly increasing nitriding rate with rising oxygen content in the metal was found. The highest reaction rates were measured for the saturated ${\alpha}-Zr(O)$, as it exists at the metal-oxide interface, at $1300^{\circ}C$. The temperature maximum of the reaction rate was approximately 100 K higher than for Zircaloy-4, already investigated in a previous study. The article presents results of thermogravimetric experiments as well as posttest examinations by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and microprobe elemental analyses. Furthermore, a comparison with results obtained with Zircaloy-4 will be made.
