  • The factors affecting Ni-Co alloy electroforming were investigated to determine the optimum bath composition and electroplating parameters, like pH, temperature, and current density, suitable for high speed fabrication of a micro mold with longer lifetime. To obtain alloy deposits having uniform thickness and composition, electroplating parameters were finely tuned with home-made electroforming apparatus. Ni-Co alloy deposits had linearly increased Co with $Co^{2+}$ ion concentration in electroplating bath, and showing $412H_v$ of Victors hardness at $23wt\%$ of Co content. For Ni-Co alloy, sulfonate and diol related organic additives were very effective to alleviate its residual stress and surface roughness. The maximum deposition rate was $106{\mu}m/hr$ at 10ASD and the tensile strength of alloy deposit was 2 times larger than that of Ni only case.

  • Purpose: Automatic dental prosthesis manufacturing process was accelerated by the spread of dental CAD / CAM system. The CAD / CAM system with milling alloys were needed supplement. So, sintered alloy blocks were introduced. In this study, we want to study sintered alloy block. And to evaluate the alloy block manufacture and alloy properties. Methods: The alloy powders were prepared by high pressure water dispersion method. The sintered alloy blocks were prepared by low temperature pressing method. Their components observation were EDX, and the alloy structure was observed by XRD. Results: Co-Cr alloy powders were observed to have a circle shape with an average diameter of about $100{\mu}m$ and a Ni-Cr alloy powder had a circle shape with an average diameter of about $50{\mu}m$. The Co-Cr alloy block is composed of Co (34.62 wt%), Cr (17.33 wt%), Mo (2.98 wt%), Si (0.36 wt%) and C (44.17 wt%). The Ni-Cr alloy powder was composed of Ni (40.29 wt%), Cr (19.37 wt%), Mo (3.53 wt%), Si (0.52 wt%) and C (33.18 wt%). The peak of the Co and CoCr peaks were observed in the CoCr alloy body by the means of XRD study. Cr2Ni3 of the peak was observed in the Ni-Cr alloy material. Conclusion : As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. Prepared by high-pressure water-law Co-Cr alloy powder has an average diameter $100{\mu}m$, Ni-Cr alloy powder was found to have the form of sphere having an average diameter $50{\mu}m$. 2. Co-Cr alloy and Ni-Cr alloy block produced by low-temperature processing showed a certain ratio. 3. In the XRD study, Co phase appeared in Co-Cr alloy block after sintering. and Cr2Ni3 phase appeared in Ni-Cr alloy block after sintering.

  • Abstract-Quantitative surface analysis of Co-Ni and Au-Cu alloys by XPS and SIMS was studied. For Co-Ni alloy, quantitative XPS analysis could be done within 1-2% relative error with pure element standards without any correction. For Au-Cu, quantitative XPS analysis was not possible without any correction. But it could be done with standard alloys of various composition within 1-2% relative error. Without standard alloys, Au-Cu alloys could be analyzed by XPS within 10% relative error with pure element standards. For SIMS analysis of Co-Ni alloys, the relative secondary ion yields of Co+/Nit has linear relation with ratio of each composition so that quantitative SIMS analysis was possible for Co-Ni alloys. Preliminary results of XPS round robin test of VAMAS-SCA Japan Project are given.

  • We fabriacted thermal evaporated $10nm-Ni_{1-x}Co_x$(x=0.2, 0.6, and 0.7) films on 70 nm-thick polysilicon substrate with $0.5{\mu}m$ line width. NiCo composite silicide layers were formed by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) at the temperatures of $700^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$. Then, we checked the microstructure evaluation of silicide patterns. A FIB (focused ion beam) was used to micro-mill the interconnect patterns with low energy condition (30kV-10pA-2 sec). We investigated the possibility of selective removal of silicide layers. It was possible to remove low resistance silicide layer selectively with the given FIB condition for our proposed NiCo composite silicides. However, the silicides formed from $Ni_{40}Co_{60}$ and $Ni_{30}Co_{70}$ composition showed void defects in interconnect patterns. Those void defects hinder the selective milling for the NiCo composite silicides.

  • We produced $(Co_{93}Cr_{7})-P-Ni$ thin films for longitudinal magnetic recording media using OC magnetron sputtering system The variation of magnetic properties of $(Co_{93}Cr_{7})-P-Ni$ pseudo-ternary system with the composition was examined. We obtained the coercivity up to 1500 Oe. The coercivity iocrease could be ascribed to in-plane anisotropy enhaocement, grain size decrease, magnetic decoupling between particles. TEM micrographs showed that the grains were well-decoupled by the addition of phosphorous.

  • The effect of Ni content in Cu underlayer on the magnetoresistance of Cu/Co artificial superlattice has been investigated. As the content of Ni increased, the preferred orientation of artificial superlattice changed from fec (100) to fcc (111) due to the change of the preferred orientation of the underlayer. When the content of Ni was 6 %, 26.7 % of magnetoresistance with 175 Oe of saturation field could be obtained in ${[Cu(19\AA)/Co(30\AA)]}_{20}|Cu-6%Ni(200\AA)/Si$.

  • $Buffer/[NiFe/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ spin valve multilayers prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on a corning glass substrate using NiFe and CoFe(Co) posses different coercivities. Dependence of magnetoresistance on the type and thickness of buffer layer, thickness of Cu, NiFe, stacking number of multilayer, substrate temperature and annealing temperature in the form $[NiFe/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ spin-valve multilayers were investigated. To evaluate effect of magnetoresistance for this samples, X-ray diffraction analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer analysis, and magnetoresistance measurement (4-probe method) were performed the maximum magnetoresistance ratio and coercivity were 7.5 % and 140 Oe, respectively for $Cr-50{\AA}/[NiFe-20{\AA}/Cu-{\AA}/Co-20{\AA}/Cu-50{\AA}]_10$ at substrate temperature of 9$0^{\circ}C$. Magnetoresistance slope maintained 0.25%/Oe until 15$0^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature, and then decreased to 0.03%/Oe at 20$0^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed that the main factor of thermal stability was deteriorating of soft magnetic properties in the NiFe layer.

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Fe-Ni and Co-Fe-Ni compacts was investigated. Pin-on-disk wear tests were performed on the sintered Fe-Ni, Co-Fe-Ni disk specimens against alumina $(Al_2O_3)$ and silica $(SiO_2)$ ball counterparts at various loads ranging from 3N to 12N. A constant sliding speed of 0.1m/sec was employed. Wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss measured after the test by specific gravity and sliding distance. Worn surfaces and cross sections of them were examined by a scanning electron microscopy, and wear mechanism of the compacts was investigated. Wear characteristics of the compacts were discussed as a function of composition of the compacts. Relationship between the wear rate and mechancial properties of the compact was explored, and effects of the oxide layer that was formed on wearing surface of the compacts on the wear were also studied.
