Corrsion of Ni-Ze Electrodeposited Alloy (아연-니켈합금 전기도금층의 부식특성)

  • Corrosion behavior of 5-26wt% Ni-Zn electrodeposited alloys was investigated by means of dipping electrochmical polarization measurement and galvanic coupling test. The weight loss and anodic polarization curve of coatings were measured by means of dipping and polarization measurement respectively. The galvanic protection effect of alloy coatings was measured by galvanic coupling test and the surface morpholgy of coatings was observed after corrosion testing. Our findings support thous of previous investigations showing that ${\gamma}$single phase coatings, while galvanic pprotection effect of dual phase coatings improved in comparison with ${\gamma}$single phase coating. The formation of colony in coating of ${\gamma}$and η+${\gamma}$ dual phsae caused the localized corrsion and increased the corrosion rate of the Ni-Zn coating.

  • The overall efficiency depend on the overpotential of the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis. Therefore, it is necessary to research to reduce the oxygen evolution overpotential of electrodes. In this study, Ni-Zn-Fe electrodes were prepared by electroplating and the surface area was increased by Zn leaching process. Electroplating variables were studied to optimize the plating parameters(electroplating current density, pH value of electroplating solution, Ni/Fe content ratio). Ni-Zn-Fe electrode, which is electroplated in a modified Watts bath, showed 0.294 V of overpotential at $0.1A/cm^2$. That result is better than that of Ni and Ni-Zn plated electrodes. As the electroplating current density of the Ni-Zn-Fe electrode increased, the particle size tended to increase and the overpotential of oxygen evolution reaction decreased. As reducing pH of electroplating solution from 4 to 2, Fe content in electrode and activity of oxygen evolution reaction decreased.

Effects of phosphate coating on some performance of painted Al alloy sheet (도장 알루미늄 합금판의 성능에 미치는 인산염피막의 영향)

  • The effects of phosphate coating have been studied on physical properties and corrosion resistance of painted aluminum alloy sheet for automobile body. The physical properties (surface roughness, paint adhesion, impact resistance and pencil hardness) and corrosion resistance(cyclic corrosion and filiform corrosion) were investigated. Phosphate coatings enhanced the physical properties of painted Al alloy sheet, especially paint adhesion after the 240hours water immersion test. Phosphate coating also markedly improved the resistance for cyclic corrosion and filiform corrosion of painted cold rolled steel and Zn-Ni plated steel sheet as well as painted Al alloy sheet. The corrosion resistance of painted Al sheets was varied with the concentration of free fluoride ion and metal additives like Ni and Mn in the phosphating bath. A maximum corrosion resistance was obtained at about 300ppm of fluoride ion and additives of Ni and Mn obviously increased the corrosion resistance of painted specimens.

Effects of the Types of Coating on the Laser Brazing Characteristics of Dissimilar Joints between Mg Alloy and Steel Sheet (마그네슘합금과 철강 이종소재의 레이저 브레이징 특성에 미치는 도금층의 영향)

  • The dissimilar welding between magnesium alloy and steel sheet was required in automobile industry to increase the strength of the dissimilar joints. Laser brazing is one of the good joining processes for Mgsteel dissimilar joint. In this study, the effect of coating materials was evaluated on the laser brazing for the dissimilar joint between AZ31 and coated steels such as Zn, Sn and Ni. Diode direct laser was used to braze the lap-edge joint with Mg600 filler wire and Superior #21 flux. The wettability was best on Zn coated steel. The interlayer was formed at the interface between brazement and steel for all coating materials. The strengths of brazed specimen were 146.5N/mm, 204.6N/mm and 101.6N/mm for Zn, Sn and Ni coated steel respectively.

A Study on the Erosion Behavior of the Ceramic Sprayed Coating Layer in the Molten 55% Al-Zn (용융 55%Al-Zn 중에서 세라믹 용사 피막의 침식 거동에 관한 연구)

  • Sink roll has been used in molten 55%Al-Zn alloy bath of continuous galvanizing line for sinking and stabilizing working steel strip in molten metal bath. In the process, the sink roll body inevitably build up dross compounds and pitting on the sink roll surface during 55%Al-Zn alloy coated strip production, and the life time of the sink roll is shorten by build up dross compounds and pitting. The present study examined the application of thermally sprayed ceramic coatings method on sink roll body for improving erosion resistance at molten 55% Al-Zn pool. In this experiment, the stainless steels such as STS 316L and STS 430F were used as the substrate materials. The CoNiCr and WE-Co powder were selected as bond coating materials. Moreover $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-SiO_2 and ZrO_2-SiO_2$ powders selected as the top coating materials. Appearances of the specimens before and after dipping to molten 55%Al-Zn pool were compared and analyzed. As a result of this study, STS430F of substrate, WC-Co of bond spray coatings, $ZrO_2-SiO_2$ power of top spray coatings is the best quality in erosion resistance test at molten 55%Al-Zn pool

  • The following work examines the growth rate and microstructure of the $AI_2O_3$-composite formation by melt oxdation of pentad AI-alloys. The I weight % of each metal elements Cu and Ni were added to AI-IMg-3Si-3Zn and AI-IMg- 3Si-5Zn alloys. The diffenent pentad AI-alloys were oxidized 20 hours long at 1373K and 1473K. The oxidation rates were determined by observing the weight gain. The macro- and microstructure of formed oxide layer were examined by optical microscopy. The AI-IMg-3Si-5Zn-lCu alloy revealed the best oxidation behavior, but formedoxide layer was inhomogeneous.The oxidation rate were accelerated, and the uniform growth of the oxide layer with fine microstructure were obtained by putting a thin layer of $SiO_2$ on the surface of the alloy.

A Study on the Purification of Zn from Pb Splashing Alloy (Pb Splashing 합금으로부터 Zn정련에 관한 연구)

  • Electric are furnace dust (EAF dust) generated in steel production based on scrap melting is contained Zn and Fe about 25 and 30 percent by weight, respectively. From a metallurgical point of view, the dust could be regarded as a raw material for Zn and Fe source. To recover the Zn in the metal from EAF dust, many system are proposed such as Arc Plasma Furmace and Pb splasher method. In this study, to recover high purity Zn from Pb splasing alloy, Zn distillation is carried out at the temperature of 1123, 1173, 1223, 1273 K, the gas flow rate of 2.5, 5.0, 8.0 Ni/min and the distilling time of 10, 30, 60, 90 minutes. The main results obtained from this study are as follows:(1) The amount of evaporated Zn and its evaporating rate increased with increasing temperature, but purity of Zn decreased with increasing temperature. Optimum temperature range was found out to be between 1173∼1223K. (2) The amount of evaporated Zn and evaporation rate increased with increasing gas flow rate at a given temperature and distillation time. Gas flow rate has more influence over the amount of evaporated Zn and evaporation rate with increasing temperature.

The effect of additives on the electrocrystallization of Zn-Ni alloy deposit (아연-니켈 합금도금 전착성에 미치는 첨가제 영향)

  • The effect of the additives on the Zn-Ni alloy electrocrystallization from a chloride bath was investigated by means of electrochemical methodes, scanning electron microscopy and measurement of surface appearance, X-ray diffraction patterns. The additives tested were the surfactant of naphtalene-derivative, saccharin and aliphatic alcohol. The resistance of electrodeposit increased by adding the additives, whereas the effect of additives on resistance was different with current density. The nickel content of alloy deposit was increased by the addition of alcohol, while decreased by the surfactant. The surface roughness, appearance and morphology of deposit were also influenced by the type of additive. The fine, compact grains and good surface roughness could be obtained from the surfactant or alcohol -added bath, and the surfactant or saccharin improved the surface appearance.
