The Ti-Ni alloy nanopowders were synthesized by a levitational gas condensation (LGC) by using a micron powder feeding system and their particulate properties were investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The starting Ti and Ni micron powders $150{\mu}m$ were incorporated into the micron powder feeding system. An ingot type of the Ti-Ni ahoy was used as a seed material for the levitation and evaporation reactions. The collected powders were finally passivated by oxidation. The x-ray diffraction experiments have shown that the synthesized powders were completely alloyed with Ti and Ni and comprised of two different cubic and monoclinic crystalline phases. The TEM results showed that the produced powders were very fine and uniform with a spherical particle size of 18 to 32nm. The typical thickness of a passivated oxide layer on the particle surface was about 2 to 3 nm. The specific surface area of the Ti-Ni alloy nanopowders was $60m^2/g$ based on BET method.
We make a studyof the hydrogen permeability and chemical stability of $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ metal alloy membrane. For this purpose, we produced the $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ membrane which has 10 mm diameter and 0.5 mm thick, and experiment the hydrogen transport properties under two kinds of feed gas ($H_2$ 100%; $H_2$ 60% + $CO_2$ 40%) at $450^{\circ}C$C with variation of absolute pressure. The maximum hydrogen permeation flux was $5.58mL/min/cm^2$ in the absolute pressure 3 bar under pure hydrogen. And each case of feed gases about gas composition, the permeation fluxes were satisfied with Sievert's law, and the hydrogen permeation flux decreased with decrease of hydrogen partial pressure irrespective of temperature and pressure. After permeation test, we experiment the stability and durability of $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ alloy membrane for carbon dioxide by XRD analysis.
Nb-doped $TiO_2$(NTO) coated NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production is prepared using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition(USPD) method. To optimize the size and distribution of NTO particles based on good physical and chemical stability, we synthesize particles by adjusting the weight ratio of the Nb precursor solution(5 wt%, 10 wt% and 15 wt%). The morphological, chemical bonding, and structural properties of the NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam are investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy(XPS), and Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM). As a result, the samples of controlled Nb weight ratio exhibit a common diffraction pattern at ${\sim}25.3^{\circ}$, corresponding to the(101) plane, and have chemical bonding(O-Nb=O) at 534 eV. The NTO particles with the optimum weight ratio of N (10 wt%) show a uniform distribution with a size of ~18.2-21.0 nm. In addition, they exhibit the highest corrosion resistance even in the electrochemical stability estimation. As a result, the introduction of NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam by USPD improves the chemical stability of the NiCrAl alloy foam by protecting the direct electrochemical reaction between the foam and the electrolyte. Thus, the optimized NTO coating can be proposed for excellent protection of NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrocarbon-based steam methane reforming(SMR).
Some shape memory alloys like NiTi show noticeable high damping property in pseudoelastic range. Due to its instinct characteristics, a NiTi alloy is commonly used for passive damping applications, in which the energy may be dissipated by the conversion from mechanical to thermal energy. Previous researches found the NiTi wires own higher damping property than the bars; therefore the wire form is adopted in this study. A loss factor is introduced for measuring the damping property of the NiTi wires. The experimental observation shows the mechanical behaviors of NiTi wires are dependent on temperature, strain rate and strain amplitude. Moreover, it is found the first several decades of loading-unloading cycles can obviously influence the property of NiTi wires under the same working conditions.

The effects of heat-treatment on discharge characteristics of $TiFe_{1-x}Ni_x$ alloy were investigated. The content of Ni in alloy was varied from x = 0.1 to 0.6 by each 0.1 increment. Discharge capacity change of each alloy with C/D cycles was measured. With increasing Ni-content initial discharge capacity was increased. but at x = 0.6 it was deceased again. With increasing C/D cycles discharge capacity was rapidly decreased in the alloy of high Ni-content. In order to investigate the effects of heat-treatment on cycle life, $TiFe_{0.5}Ni_{0.5}$ alloy having maximum initial discharge capacity was heat-treated at various temperatures in the range of $700{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ and tested. The loss of initial discharge capacity was appeared at all temperatures. but cycle characteristics of the alloy was improved. The electrodes heat-treated for 1 hour in the range of $700{\sim}850^{\circ}C$ showed good recovery of discharge capacities through repeated cycles, and from SEM observation results these were considered as 1 hour in the range of $700{\sim}850^{\circ}C$ showed good recovery of discharge capacities through repeated cycles, and from SEM observation results these were considered asbeing due to increased electrode strength and small loss of porosity during heat-treatment. The electrode heat-treated for 1 hour at $900^{\circ}C$ showed poor discharge characteristics because of low porosity.

Multicomponent $Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ bulk matallic glass alloy shows good bulk glass forming ability due to its high resistance to crystallization in the undercooled liquid state.1) In this study, DSC and X-ray diffractometry have been performed to confirm the amorphous structure of the master $Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ alloy. To investigate the mechanical properties and deformation behaviors of the bulk metallic $Zr_{41.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ alloy, a series of compression tests has been carried out at the temperatures ranging from $351^{\circ}C$ to $461^{\circ}C$ and at the various initial strain rates from $2{\times}10^{-4}s^{-1}\;to\;2{\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$. There are two types of nominal stress-strain curves. The one shows linear stress-strain relationship meaning fracture at maximum stress, the other shows plastic deformation including steady-state flow. Also DSC analysis for the compressed specimens has been performed to investigate the change of thermal stability and crystallization behavior for the various test conditions.
It is well known that a multicomponent $Zr_{4l.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ bulk metallic glass alloy shows good bulk glass forming ability due to its high resistance to crystallization in the undercooled liquid state. DSC and XRD have been performed to confirm the amorphous structure of the master alloy. To investigate the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of the bulk metallic $Zr_{4l.2}Ti_{13.8}Cu_{12.5}Ni_{10}Be_{22.5}$ alloy, a series of compression tests has been carried out at the temperatures ranging from $351^{\circ}C$ to $461^{\circ}C$at the various initial strain rates from $2{\times}10^4s^1$ to $2{\times}10^2s^1$. Three types of nominal stress-strain curves have been identified such as linear stress-strain relationship meaning fracture at maximum stress, plastic deformation including stress overshoot and steady-state flow, plastic deformation without stress overshoot depending on the strain rate and test temperature. Also DSC analysis for the compressed specimens was carried out to investigate the change of structure, thermal stability and crystallization behavior for the various test conditions.
Tensile residual stress happen by difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix is one of the serious problems in metal matrix composite(MMC). In this study, TiNi fiber was used to solve the tensile residual stress as the reinforced material. TiNi fiber improves the tensile strength of composite by occurring compressive residual stress in matrix using shape memory effect of it. Pre-strain was added to generate compressive residual stress inside TiNi/A16061 composite. It was also evaluated the effect of compressive residual stress corresponding to pre-strains variation. AE technique was used to clarify the microscopic damage behavior at high temperature and the effect of pre-strain difference of TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy composite.
Ni-base amorphous alloys were manufactured using melt-spinning and Cu-mold die casting methods. Amorphous formability, the supercooled liquid region before crystallization and mechanical properties were examined. The reduced glass transition temperature and the supercooled liquid region of $Ni_{51} Nb_{20} Zr_9 Ti_9 Co_8 Cu_3$alloy were 0.621 and 46 K respectively. $Ni_{51} Nb_{20} Zr_9 Ti_9 Co_8 Cu_3$ alloy was produced in the rod shape 3mm diameter using the Cu-mold die casting. Hardness, compression strength, elongation and elastic modulus of the alloy were 850 DPN, 2.75 GPa, 1.8% and 150 GPa respectively. Moreover, compression strength of 2.75 GPa was the highest value in the amorphous bulk alloy produced up to now.

NiTi alloy has been used for orthodontic wire due to good mechanical properties, such as elastic strength and frictional resistance, combined with a high resistance to corrosion. Recently, these wire were coated by polymer and ceramic materials for aesthetics. The purpose of this study was to investigate surface characteristics of polymer coated NiTi alloy wire for orthodontics using various instruments. Wires (round type and rectangular type) were used, respectively, for experiment. Polymer coating was carried out for wire. Specimen was investigated with field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDS) and atomic force microscopy(AFM). The phase transformation of non-coated NiTi wire from martensite to austenite occurred at the range of $14{\sim}15^{\circ}C$, in the case of coated wire, it occurred at the range of $16{\sim}18^{\circ}C$. Polymer coating on NiTi wire surface decreased the surface defects such as scratch which was formed at severe machined surface. From the AFM results, the average surface roughness of non-coated and coated NiTi wire was 13.1 nm, and 224.5 nm, respectively. From convetional surface roughness test, the average surface roughness of non-coated and coated NiTi wire was $0.046{\mu}m$, and $0.718{\mu}m$, respectively.
