  • Nanocrystalline materials of Ni and Ni-Cu alloy have been synthesized by the pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method and these abnormal magnetic properties in the magnetic ordered state have been characterized using both VSM and SQUID in the range of high and low magnetic fields. Ni and Ni-Cu particles with an average size of 20 to 80 nm were found to influence magnetic hysterisis behavior and the results of powder neutron diffraction patterns and saturation magnetization curves are shown to indicate the absence of the NiO phase. The shifted hysterisis loop and irreversibility of the magnetization curve in the high field region were observed in the magnetic-ordered state of both Ni and Ni-Cu. The virgin magnetization curve for Ni slightly spillover on the limited hysterisis loop ($\pm$20kOe). This irreversibility in the high field of 50 kOe can be explained by non-col-linear behavior and the existence of the metastable states of the magnetization at the surface layer (or core) of the particle in the applied magnetic field. Immiscible alloy of Cu-Ni was also found to show irreversibility having two different magnetic phases.

  • Porous TiNi bodies were produced by Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) method from a powder mixture of Ti and Ni. Porosity, pore size and structure, mechanical property, and transformation temperature of TiNi product were investigated. The average porosity and pore size of produced porous TiNi body are 63% and $216\mutextrm{m}$, respectively. XRD analysis showed that the major phase of produced TiNi body is B2 phase. Its average fracture strength and elastic modulus measured under dry condition were $22\pm2$ MPa and $0.18\pm0.01$GPa, respectively. It could be strained up to 7.3 %. The transformation temperatures determined by DSC showed the $M_s$ temperature of $67^{\circ}C$ and $A_f$ temperature of $99^{\circ}C$.

  • Bi-axially textured Ni tapes for YBCO coated conductors were Prepared by cold rolling and heat treatment of Ni Powder compacts. The Ni powder used in this study was 5 urn in particle size and 99.99 % in purity. The process of this study consists of filling of hi powder into a rubber mold, cold-isostatically Pressing and sintering of the powder compacts at 110$0^{\circ}C$ for 6h in 96 % Ar - 4 % H$_2$ atmosphere. The sintered compacts were cold rolled with a 5 % step reduction ratio into a 100 micron-thick tapes and then heat-treated at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for various time periods. The (200) texture of Ni tape was successfully developed through the recrystallization heat treatment of the cold rolled Ni tapes. At 100$0^{\circ}C$, the degree of texture of the heat-treated Ni tapes seems not to be significantly affected by the heat-treatment time. The short heat treatment of S min was sufficient to develop the complete (200) cube texture. The degree of in-Plane and out-of-plane texture of the prepared Ni tapes was 8-10$^{\circ}$. The heat treated Ni tapes consisted of equiaxed grains with a size 50-70 microns. and the AFM sol-face roughness was as smooth as 3 nm.

  • In this study the calcined condition and characteristic of Cu-Ni-Zn ferrite powder were investigated. The Cu-Ni-Zn ferrite powder has been synthesized by the thermal decomposition of the organic acid salt. This process did not require a strict pH control and provided the uniform composition and fine powder with about 0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The XRD diffraction pattern of this powder showed about 50% spinel phase. The optimum calcination was found to be done at $700^{\circ}C$ for one hour. After the calcination, the amount of spinel increased to 90%. The distribution of the particle size showed bimodal peaks, one was about 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the other was about 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The large particles of 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were the agglomeration of fine Particles. The mean Particle size of the powder was about 0.4 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The powder was compacted under 100 MPa pressure and sintered at 1100~ $1250^{\circ}C$ for one hour in air. The density of ferrites specimen was a function of the sintering temperature. The higher the temperature, the denser the ferrite. The maximum relative density of the sintered ferrite was about 93% at $1250^{\circ}C$. The grain size of sintered specimen at $1200^{\circ}C$ was 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and homogeneous.

  • A mono-disperse Ni powders for multilayer ceramic capacitors were prepared in a large scale by solution reduction method using $NiSO_{4}$ $N_{2}$$H_{4}$and NaOH. The exothermic reactions such as Ni-complex formation between highly concentrated $NiSO_{4}$ and $N_{2}$$H_{4}$ and the reduction of $Ni^{2+}$ into Ni provided thermal energy sufficient for spontaneous solution-reduction reaction. Because well-defined Ni particles could be prepared without external heating, the present method was named as 'auto-thermal method'. The formation of Nicomplex, the precipitation of $Ni(OH)_{2}$ gel triggered by NaOH addition, and its reduction into Ni by dissolution-recrystallization route were the reaction mechanism. The preparation of mono-disperse and spherical Ni powder was attributed to uniform distribution of reducing agent $N_{2}$$H_{2}$ within $Ni(OH)_{2}$ gel due to the decomposition of$NiSO_{4}$-$N_{2}$ $H_{4}$ complex.
