  • The high velocity oxy-fuel sprayed coatings of 38Ni-23Co-20Cr-11Al-3Y-5Ta, 25Ni-34Co-20Cr-11Al-3Y-2Re and 32Ni-34.5Co-22Cr-11Al-0.5Ir (in wt%) were oxidized at 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ in air in order to find the alloying effect of Ta, Re and Ir on the oxidation properties of the NiCoCrAlY-base coatings. The primary phase of the coatings was $Ni_3Al$. The oxides formed on the coatings consisted primarily of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, together with some $CoCr_2O_4,\;CoAl_2O_4$, and $Al_5Y_3O_{12}$. Tantalum oxidized to $Ta_2O_5$ and $Ta_2O_{22}$. However, no oxides of Re and Ir were detected by XRD owing to their thermodynamic inertness and/or their small amount.

  • The microstructure and properties of plasma-sprayed coatings depend on a great number of spraying parameters, random factors, which lead to vibration in these spraying parameters, may in some degree influence the microstructure and properties of the coatings. Therefore, the property values appear certain distributions, and the description and comparison of the properties of plasma-sprayed coatings should be performed employing statistical analysis. In this paper, $Cr_3C_2$-Nicr coatings of different thickness were sprayed onto stainless steel using atmosphere plasma system and adopting three kinds of gun translation speeds. Then the microhardness measurements were performed on polished surface of the coatings. Forty readings were taken and statistically analyzed by calculating the characteristic values, estimating and comparing the means, and assessing whether they belonged to the Normal or Weibull Distribution. This study has found that statistical analysis could discriminate influence of spraying parameters and coating design on microhardness of the $Cr_3C_2$-Nicr coatings from random vibration, which showed that the microharness of the $Cr_3C_2$-Nicr coatings were related to gun translation speed coating thickness.

  • The existing heating unit is indirect-heating method that make use or the nichrome wire or halogen lamp. The indirect-heating method has the demerits of long warming time, high power consumption and many organization parts. In this study, the heating unit of direct-heating method manufactured as being the thermal spray coating of conductive heating material on the surface of heating unit in order to improve the demerits of indirect-heating method. And YSZ added Ni-20Cr that had moderate electrical resistivity was chosen of the conductive heating material.

  • The nanoocrystalline Ni-l5W(at.%) coating electrodeposited on the high carbon steel was oxidized at 700 and $800^{\circ}C$ in air, and the resultant oxidation properties were investigated using XRD, EPMA, TGA and TEM. The oxidation resistance of the coating was not so good that most of the coating was oxidized after oxidation at $800^{\circ}C$ for 5 hrs. The oxidation led to the formation of the outer, thin NiO oxide scale and the inner, porous, rather thick ($NiWO_4$+NiO) mixed layer containing a bit of $WO_2$. During oxidation, substrate elements such as Fe and Cr diffused outwardly toward the coating, according to the concentration gradient.

  • High velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying coating has been used widely throughout the last 60 years mainly in defense, aerospace, and power plants. Recently this coating technique is considered as a promising candidate for the replacement of the traditional electrolytic hard chrome plating (EHC) which pollutes the environment and causes lung cancer by toxic hexa-valent $Cr^{6+}$. In this study, two kinds of cermet coatings, WC-CoCr and WC-CrC-Ni, are formed by HVOF spraying. The corrosion and electrochemical properties are evaluated by polarization tests in 3.5 wt% solutions.

  • The simultaneous addition of Al and Cr to the surface of Ni-and Fe-base alloy provides enhanced resistance to oxidation and corrosion in high temperatures. However, because of the large differences in thermodynamic stabilities of the volatile halides of Al and Cr, the codeposition of Al and Cr by halideactivated pack cementation is only possible for very specific, limited combinations of conditions. In this study, the experiments on the combinations of various metallic source powders and activators were conducted in order to obtain codeposition layers of Al and Cr on Ni with adequate composition by pack cementation. When Cr-Al masteralloy was used as a source powder, it was not easy to control Al and Cr content sensitively in the coating layers. On the other hand, when pure Cr and Al powder was used, ${\beta}$-NiAl layer containing about 20wt % Cr was obtained.

  • This study investigated the effect of heat treatment conditions not only on the Cr surface crack propagation behaviors but also on the Ni/Cr interfacial reaction characteristics in electroless Ni/electroplated Cr double coating layers on Cu substrate. Clear band layer of Ni-Cr solid solutions were developed at Ni/Cr interface after heat treatment at $750^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. Channeling cracks formed in Cr layer after 1 step heat treatment, that is, heat treatment after Ni/Cr plating, while little channeling cracks formed after 2 step heat treatment, that is, same heat treatments after Ni and Cr plating, respectively, due to residual stress relaxation due to crystallization of Ni layer before Cr plating.
