The Principles and Applications of High-Throughput Sequencing Technologies

  • The advancement in high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technology has revolutionized the field of biology, including genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics. This technology has become a crucial tool in many areas of research, allowing scientists to generate vast amounts of genetic data at a much faster pace than traditional methods. With this increased speed and scale of data generation, researchers can now address critical questions and gain new insights into the inner workings of living organisms, as well as the underlying causes of various diseases. Although the first HTS technology have been introduced about two decades ago, it can still be challenging for those new to the field to understand and use effectively. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of commonly used HTS technologies these days and their applications in terms of genome sequencing, transcriptome, DNA methylation, DNA-protein interaction, chromatin accessibility, three-dimensional genome organization, and microbiome.

Operational Concept of the NEXTSat-1 for Science Mission and Space Core Technology Verification

  • The next generation small satellite-1 (NEXTSat-1) program has been kicked off in 2012, and it will be launched in 2016 for the science missions and the verification of space core technologies. The payloads for these science missions are the Instrument for the Study of Space Storms (ISSS) and NIR Imaging Spectrometer for Star formation history (NISS). The ISSS and the NISS have been developed by Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Korea Astronomy and Space science Institute (KASI) respectively. The ISSS detects plasma densities and particle fluxes of 10 MeV energy range near the Earth and the NISS uses spectrometer. In order to verify the spacecraft core technologies in the space, the total of 7 space core technologies (SCT) will be applied to the NEXTSat-1 for space verification and those are under development. Thus, the operation modes for the ISSS and the NISS for space science missions and 7 SCTs for technology missions are analyzed for the required operation time during the NEXTSat-1's mission life time of 2 years. In this paper, the operational concept of the NEXTSat-1's science missions as well as the verification of space core technologies are presented considering constraints of volume, mass, and power after launch.

  • The global water shortage is getting more attention by global climate change. And water demand rapidly increases due to industrialization and population growth. Desalination technology is being expected as an alternative water supply method. Desalination technology requires low energy or maintenance costs, making it a competible next generation technology, with examples such as forward osmosis (FO), membrane distillation (MD), capacitive deionization (CDI), and electrodialysis (ED) to compete with reverse osmosis (RO). In order to identify recent research trends in desalination technologies (FO, MD, RO, CDI, and ED) between 2000-2020, a bibliometric analysis was conducted in the current study. The number of published papers in desalination technology have increased in Desalination and Journal of Membrane Science mainly. Moreover, it was found that FO, MD, RO, CDI, and ED technologies have been applied in various research areas including electrochemical, food processing and carbon-based material synthesis. Recent research topics according to the desalination technologies were also identified.

혁신기술수용 이후 : 차세대 서비스 업그레이드 의향에 대한 서비스 속성만족은 차원과 고객 충성도의 역할 (Post-Adoption Behavior : Role of Customer Satisfaction and Customer Loyalty in the Next-Generation Service Upgrading)

  • Recently, most tech-based products are of multiple generations, since new-generation products are replacing the older ones as technologies continue to improve. Although, this means that research is needed to examine as much about the role of post-adoption behavior as the missing link between the adoptions of successive generation as first adoption of innovation, there is a dearth of literature explicitly examining consumers' post-adoption behavior, especially in the context of subscription-based service. For the subscription-based services, in spite of the important role of consumer satisfaction, research on the post-adoption behavior can not carefully examine the direct impact of consumer satisfaction on their decision to upgrade by considering usage instead of satisfaction as the missing link between buyers' first adoption and their next-generation adoption. This study identified two types of attribute satisfaction such as basic attribute and core attribute using both literature review and FGI (Focus Group Interview), and tries to investigate how two types of attribute satisfaction has influence on customers' intention to upgrade to the next-generation services. and a moderating role of customer loyalty between attribute satisfaction and intention. The empirical results show that core-attribute satisfaction has a negative influence on customers' intention to upgrade, due to the moderating role of customer loyalty, but it can raise their intention to upgrade next-generation services. However, basic-attribute satisfaction, on the other hand, appears to positively influence both customer loyalty and the intention to upgrade. We also find that the consumer attribute satisfaction is influenced by consumer innovativeness, her perception of service and the usage of each features' type in different ways. Finally, academic and practical implication is made, limitation is clarified and a direction for further studies is suggested.

  • This paper will review the state of the latest development of AMLCD manufacturing facilities for large Substrate and discuss the future technologies. The trend of the display size enlargement of Note book PC has hauled the enlargement of the mother glass substrate in past 10 years. The enlargement of a substrate size has brought about the productivity improvement of the TFT panel with process innovation as yet. Will this trend be continuing hereafter too? The issues of the processing and facilities related with the large square substrate and mask step reduction will be overviewed and the future processing and facilities will be discussed.

  • With projections into the future advanced Korea fighter development, the trend of tactical combat aircraft powerplants technique development over the past decade is presented. Ti was particularly focused on current innovative powerplants technologies such as lower density stronger materials and turbomachniery aerodynamics. With reviewing the status of aircraft powerplants which are currently underdeveloped next generation combat aircraft, it shows some core techniques that are needed for developing Korean type combat aircraft.

  • Convergence services are very important to mobile operators in next generation mobile networks. However, mobile operators cannot deal with all convergence services because there are numerous convergence services. Thus, they should select and develop main technologies to provide convergence services which are areas to grow our business. In this paper, we introduce basic technologies to provide convergence services and then present some evaluation models to select an important area and technology.

  • 차세대 통신망으로 각광받고 있는 NGN(Next Generation Network)은 일반전화망, 비동기식전송방식(ATM), 프레임릴레이, 전용망, 무선통신망 등 모든 통신 네트워크를 패킷 기반의 공통 망으로 통합하는 개념이며, NGN의 가장 큰 특징은 통합화와 패킷화. 음성과 데이터, 영상을 동시에 수용하며 인터넷전화, 멀티미디어 메시징 등과 같은 다양한 부가서비스를 효율적으로 제공할 수 있다는 것이다. 이러한 NGN 환경에서는 전송층에서 제공하는 서비스, 응용층에서 제공하는 서비스 등 상당히 많은 서비스들이 정의되고 있으며, 앞으로 점점 더 많은 서비스들이 생겨날 것이다. 또한, NGN 환경에서 새로운 서비스의 개발은 처음부터 개발하는 것이 아니라, 기존의 NGN의 서비스들을 재사용하여 새로운 서비스로 개발되는 형태가 이상적이며, 이러한 것들이 서로 다른 통신망, 플랫폼, 프로그래밍 언어 등의 상이한 환경하에서 가능해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 2006년 1월부터 ITU-T SG13에서 본격적으로 표준화를 시작하여 2008년 9월 국제표준으로 최종 승인된 NGN을 위한 개방형 서비스 환경 기능에 대한 표준화 동향을 설명한다.
