  • IPTV was introduced as the new growth engine of the broadcasting and telecommunications industry and has experienced a high growth rate as its subscribers exceeded 2 million in early 2010. However there have been some doubts on if the IPTV market will keep current growth drift. One of such suspicions is that IPTV market has not been developed by the competitiveness of IPTV industry itself. In addition, the recent slowdown of subscribers' growth and IPTV players' operating at a loss has been suggested as obstacles to the IPTV market growth. This sort of phenomenon has been brought about by ambiguous proposition of IPTV's own value as well as IPTV service positioning gap. To resolve these problems this study empirically investigates what customers want to get from IPTV service by analyzing switching value of IPTV subscribers. This study also identifies which values must be strategically considered to develop next generation IPTV services, in particular mobile IPTV services. Following the investigation, this study analyzes the possible positioning gap of mobile IPTV. Through this analysis, this study suggests which sort of service values need to be reconciled.

  • The efficacy of plant breeding has been enhanced by application of molecular markers in population screening and selection. Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is a major staple crop that is economically important with worldwide distribution. It is valued for its spicy taste and medicinal effect. The aim of this study was to discover single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), microsatellite markers information, and percentage sharing through orthologous analysis of pepper-specific pungency-related genes. Here, we report the results of transcriptome analysis and microsatellite markers for four pepper varieties that possess a pungency-related gene. Orthologous analyses was performed to identify species-specific pungency-related genes in pepper, Arabidopsis thaliana L., potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.). Advancements in next-generation sequencing technologies enabled us to quickly and cost-effectively assemble and characterize genes to select molecular markers in various organisms, including pepper. We identified a total of 9762, 7302, 8596, and 6886 SNPs for the four pepper cultivars Blackcluster, Mandarine, Saengryeg 211, and Saengryeg 213, respectively. We used 454 GS-FLX pyrosequencing to identify microsatellite markers and tri-nucleotide repeats (54.4%), the most common repeats, followed by di-, hexa-, tetra-, and penta-nucleotide repeats. A total of 5156 (15.9%) pepper-specific pungency-related genes were discovered as a result of orthologous analysis.

  • This study was carried out to solve problems such as radio frequency band depletion, confusion risk, and security loss in existing visible wireless communication systems, and to determine the applicability of next-generation networks. A light-emitting diode (LED) light communication system was implemented with a controlling switching light module using the ATmega16 micro-controller. To solve the existing modulation effect and disturbance in visible light communication, an integrated interface was evaluated with a driving light module and analyzes its reception property. A transmitter/receiver using the ATmel's micro-controller, high-intensity white LED-6 modules, and infrared sensor KSM60WLM and visible sensor TSL250RD were designed. An experiment from the initial value of distance to 2.5 m showed 0.46 V of the voltage loss, and if in long distance, external light interference occurred and light intensity was lost by external impact and thus data had to be modified or reset repeatedly. Additionally, when we used 6 modules through the remote controller's lighting dimming, data could be transmitted up to 1.76 m without any errors during the day and up to 2.29 m at night with around 2~3% communication error. If a special optical filter can reduce as much external light as possible in the integrated interface, the LED for lighting communication systems may be applied in next generation networks.

  • The automatic monitoring and detection of crowd behavior in the surveillance videos has obtained significant attention in the field of computer vision due to its vast applications such as security, safety and protection of assets etc. Also, the field of crowd analysis is growing upwards in the research community. For this purpose, it is very necessary to detect and analyze the crowd behavior. In this paper, we proposed a deep learning-based method which detects abnormal activities in surveillance cameras installed in a smart city. A fine-tuned VGG-16 model is trained on publicly available benchmark crowd dataset and is tested on real-time streaming. The CCTV camera captures the video stream, when abnormal activity is detected, an alert is generated and is sent to the nearest police station to take immediate action before further loss. We experimentally have proven that the proposed method outperforms over the existing state-of-the-art techniques.

  • Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are being faced with rapid changes in their business environments due to evolution of technologies and innovation in societal eco-systems. Particularly, dynamic interactions between such environments and enterprise activities have become significant, so technology planning, which is a process of identifying appropriate directions regarding product and technology development, has received much attention to cope with such dynamics proactively. However, SMEs typically have limits in performing independent, strategical and systematical technology planning activities due to the lack of human, material and financial resources. This paper proposes the development of a product roadmapping method so that SMEs carry out efficient technology planning activities with interconnections of external business environments. The present work provides product roadmap templates that directly accommodate the influence of business environments on the product's system and its associated super/sub-systems with the use of external environment analysis techniques including TRIZ methodology, PEST and 5Forces analysis. These templates are useful to efficiently forecast the directions of product's development and evolution, which arise from changes in external environments. Consequently, the present work enables SMEs to flexibly cope with the era of the next R&D generation, which pursues value creation through mutual interconnection between business environments and technology development.

  • the Naval Combat Management System(CMS) has been installed and used in various ships since its localization, and has been developed by continuously introducing the latest technology. Recently, surface ship CMS have applied server virtualization and desktop virtualization(Virtual Desktop Infra, VDI) technologies among virtualization technologies to increase system stability and limitations on the limited space and weight of ships. On the other hand, submarine CMS do not have virtualization technology applied, so there are limitations in space and weight limitations and CMS efficiency improvement. To this end, this paper proposes a next-generation submarine CMS using Docker-based server virtualization. Through performance analysis between the processor of the existing CMS and the processor to which Docker-based server virtualization was applied, it was confirmed that the method proposed in this paper is applicable to the next-generation submarine CMS.

  • Resistive Random Access Memory (RRAM), based on resistive switching characteristics, is emerging as a next-generation memory device capable of efficiently processing large amounts of data through its fast operation speed, simple device structure, and high-density implementation. Interface type resistive switching offer the advantage of low operation currents without the need for a forming process. Especially, for RRAM devices based on transition metal oxides, various studies are underway to enhance the memory characteristics, including precise material composition control and improving the reliability and stability of the device. In this paper, we introduce various methods, such as doping of heterogeneous elements, formation of multilayer films, chemical composition adjustment, and surface treatment to prevent degradation of interface type resistive switching properties and enhance the device characteristics. Through these approaches, we propose the feasibility of implementing high-efficient next-generation non-volatile memory devices based on improved resistive switching properties.

  • The next-generation Molten Salt Reactor is known for its high safety because it uses nuclear fuel dissolved in high-temperature molten salt, unlike traditional solid atomic fuel methods. However, the high-temperature molten salt causes severe corrosion in internal structural materials, threatening the reactor's safety. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the high-temperature corrosion resistance and wear performance of materials used in reactors to ensure safety. In this study, the high-temperature corrosion resistances and wear performances of corrosion samples in a NaCl-MgCl2-KCl (20-40-40 [wt%]) molten salt are investigated to evaluate the applicability of economically viable stainless steels, 316SS and 304SS. Hastelloy C276 and a new alloy containing a small amount of Nb are used as reference samples for comparative analysis. The mass loss, mass loss rate per unit volume, and surface roughness of each sample are measured to understand the corrosion mechanisms. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analyses are employed to analyze the corrosion mechanisms. Wear tests on the corroded samples are also conducted to assess the extent of corrosion. Based on the experimental results, we predict the lifespans of the materials and evaluate their suitability as candidate materials for molten salt reactors. The data obtained from the experiments provide a valuable database for structural materials that can enhance the stability of molten salt reactors and recommend high-temperature corrosion-resistant materials suitable for next-generation reactors.

  • This paper proposes the architecture of test case generator that can generate test cases, considering feedback signals from subsystems controlled by an embedded system. In general, a closed system decides the next test input to its subsystem under its control referencing feedback signals from its subsystem. In such systems, it is hard to use the typical test cases generated without referencing feedback. The architecture proposed in this paper re-produces test cases in real time using feedback signals. The architecture is implemented and its effectiveness is verified through experimenting a demo system.
