  • Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications has become a crucial technology for next-generation communication networks owing to its hyperconnectivity capabilities. We examine the progress and application areas of LEO satellite communication services. The LEO satellite communication industry has transitioned from being predominantly driven by governments and institutions to being led by the private sector, following the trajectory of the NewSpace movement. Leading corporations such as SpaceX Starlink and Eutelsat OneWeb are deploying LEO satellite networks to offer internet services, while Telesat is preparing to establish its satellite communication network. LEO satellite communications is expected to have a major impact on various sectors of society, particularly for upcoming sixth-generation services. Therefore, the South Korean government must promptly formulate policy support strategies aimed at invigorating the LEO satellite communication industry. This can be achieved through initiatives such as bolstering research and development and extending corporate assistance.

  • In this paper, the channel environment for next generation ITS/DSRC which is developed for 10Mbps is modeled with ray tracing technique and, we analyzed BER of OFDM which has an advantage over reducing the effect of ISI with multi-carrier and guard time, occuping bandwidth on 6-ray channel environment. Also, we applied the one-tap equalizer to improve the performance of BER. In case only OFDM is applied with 32 sub-carrier, the result of BER is under $10^{-6}$ from 10 to 100m if $E_b/N_0$ is more than 23dB. But in case OFDM and one-tap equalizer are applied with 32 sub-carrier, $E_b/N_0$ is required of about 17dB to achieve BER under $10^{-6}$.

  • Fuels based on petroleum will eventually run out in the near future. DME (Di-methyl Ether) is a clean energy source that can be manufactured from various raw materials such as natural gas, coal as well as biomass. As DME has no carbon-carbon bond in its molecular structure and is an oxygenate fuel, its combustion essentially generates no soot as well as no SOx. Because the physical properties of DME are similar to those of LPG, the LPG distribution infrastructure can be converted to use with DME. DME has such high cetane number of 55~60 that it can be used as a diesel engine fuel. Practical use of DME as a next-generation clean fuel or next-generation chemical feedstock is advancing in the fields of power generation, diesel engines, household use, and fuel cells, among others. The purpose of this paper is review the characteristics, standardization, status of research and development in domestic and foreign countries of DME.

  • An assembly sequence is considered to be optimal when it minimizes assembly cost while satisfying assembly constraints. to generate such sequences for robotic assembly, this paper proposes a method using a genetic algorithm (GA). This method denotes an assembly sequence as an individual, which is assigned a fitness related to the assembly cost. Then, a population consisting of a number of individuals evolves to the next generation through genetic operations of crossover and mutation based upon the fitness of the individuals. The population continues to repetitively evolve, and finally the fittest individual and its corresponding assembly sequence is found. Through case study for an electrical relay, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated. Also, the performance is evaluated by-comparing with those of previously presented approaches such as a neural-netowork-based method and a simulated annealing method.

  • This is a study on methods for designers of furniture and products to generate and develop design concept in consideration of design and existing conditions of the space when they design street furniture. In particular, in case when they participate in a process of designing new space, this study aims to reveal methods generating strategic elements and basic ideas for designing street furniture through cases study of projects by understanding and analyzing concept of overall space design and by extracting artistic elements for deployment of specific designs. First, Design DNA, which decides overall flow of design concept of street furniture, is extracted through analyses of basic concepts of space design. Next, by applying 3V Design Process, alternatives of the concept generation are suggested through methods of storytelling and design language under the two approach methods of verbalization stage and visualization stage. Also its methods were explored through suggestion of designs by developing each idea of the respective concepts into specific design vocabulary.

  • This paper describes a new method for determining the permissible operating range of DG(Distributed Generation) when DG is introduced into power distribution systems of which the voltage is controlled by LDC(Line Drop Compensator). Much of the DG installed during the next millennium will be accomplished through the reconstruction of the electric power industry. But in that case, it is difficult to properly maintain the terminal voltage of low voltage customers by using only LDC. This paper presents a method for determining the permissible operating range of DG for proper voltage regulation of power distribution systems with LDC. Proposed method has been applied to a 22.9 kV model and practical distribution systems, and its result is almost identical with the simulation result.

  • Glioblastoma is one of the highly aggressive central nervous system tumors and it is difficult to treat owing its anatomical location. Peptides are novel class of drugs which has the potential to cross the blood brain barrier and exerts its anti-tumor activity. Here, we discovered a novel peptide from abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) next generation sequencing (NGS) data and tested its anticancer effect on glioblastoma cell line SNU-489. The anticancer activity was measured using a cytotoxicity assay in a time and dose-dependent manner. A concentration and time dependent increase in the cytotoxicity was seen in cells treated with the novel peptide. The highest cytotoxicity rate of about 67% was observed in SNU-489 cells treated with 200 µM peptide for 48 hrs. However, the cytotoxic effect was not or less observed in a normal skin cell line HaCaT at similar concentration, thus, evident of peptide's cell specific anticancer activity. In addition, the gene expression level of necroptosis-related genes was analyzed by qRT-PCR to elucidate the anticancer mechanism of the novel peptide. RIPK3 expression was significantly increased by 9.6-fold in 200 µM of novel peptide treatment group, and MLKL expression level was significantly elevated by 2-fold in 100 µM treated group compared to the control group. Therefore, this study confirmed that the novel abalone-derived peptide has anticancer potency, and it causes cancer cell death through the necroptosis mechanism. Collectively, these results suggest that the novel peptide could be candidate anticancer agent for the treatment of glioblastoma in the future.

  • Current traffic information is collected through a loop detector or an image detector. This method is influenced by weather and time, so a traffic information generation system is needed to replace it. A system for generating traffic information using a smartphone in a vehicle is proposed and the performance of the proposed method is verified through the collection rate and the travel time error rate obtained through field tests. In addition, we propose an algorithm for generating intersection traffic information for each direction of rotation, suggest ways to increase the amount of valid information, and confirm the results.

  • As next-generation sequencing technologies have advanced, enormous amounts of whole-genome sequence information in various species have been released. However, it is still difficult to assemble the whole genome precisely, due to inherent limitations of short-read sequencing technologies. In particular, the complexities of plants are incomparable to those of microorganisms or animals because of whole-genome duplications, repeat insertions, and Numt insertions, etc. In this study, we describe a new method for detecting misassembly sequence regions of Brassica rapa with genotyping-by-sequencing, followed by MadMapper clustering. The misassembly candidate regions were cross-checked with BAC clone paired-ends library sequences that have been mapped to the reference genome. The results were further verified with gene synteny relations between Brassica rapa and Arabidopsis thaliana. We conclude that this method will help detect misassembly regions and be applicable to incompletely assembled reference genomes from a variety of species.
