This paper discusses the feasibility of ultrasonic C-scan technique for nondestructive evaluation of spot weld quality. Ultrasonic evaluation for spot weld quality was performed by immersion method with the mechanical and the electronic scanning of point-focussed ultrasonic beam(25 MHz). For the sake of the approach to the quantitative measurement of nugget diameter and the discrimination of the corona bond from nugget, preliminary infinitesimal gap experiment by newton ring is tried in order to set up the optimum ultrasonic test condition. Ultrasonic image data obtained were confirmed and compared by optical microscope and SAM(Scanning Acoustic Microscope) observation of the spot-weld cross section. The results show that the nugget diameter can be measured with the accuracy of 1.0mm, and voids included in nugget can be detected to $10{\mu}m$ extent with simplicity and accuracy. Finally, it was found that it is necessary to make a profound study of definite discrimination of corona bond from nugget and the approach of quantitative evaluation of nugget diameter by utilizing the various image processing techniques.
This paper presents a new method on how to calculate the thrust forces acting on an auto-leveling device in headlamps for passenger vehicles. The leveling device is used to lower the angle of lights when a load in the trunk of the vehicle lifts it. In the process of the headlamp design, it is imperative to predict the external forces so that the designers can decide whether to proceed or not. The device is composed of three pivot joints with no reaction moment, a plate that holds the lamp, and a leveling motor that changes rotation to linear motion. In this study, force balance, moment balance, and geometric compatibility are applied to the leveling device system so that a nonlinear system of equations can be derived; the multi-dimensional Newton-Raphson algorithm is then used to solve these. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to verify which design variables affect the system the most: the mass of the lamp and the height between the pivot and leveling device affect the thrust forces the most. Then, considering the friction forces between the moving parts, the hysteresis of the forces are derived. An experimental apparatus, designed and developed in this study, is used to verify the exactness of the derived equations. The results from experiments coincide well with the calculated results. The friction hysteresis, in particular, proves this upon analysis.
A precision tribometer consisting of a cantilever was designed to measure frictional forces in the micro-Newton range. As frictional forces are measured based on the bending of the cantilever, vibration of the cantilever is the most significant factor affecting the quality of the friction measurement. Therefore, improved design of the tribometer with double cantilevers and a connecting plate that united the two cantilevers mechanically was suggested. For the verification of the modified design of the tribometer, numerical analysis and experiments were conducted. Examination using the finite element method revealed that the tribometer with a double cantilever and a connecting plate exhibited faster damping characteristics than the tribometer with a single cantilever. In the experiment, effectiveness of the double cantilever and connecting plate for vibration reduction was also confirmed. Vibration of the tribometer with double cantilever decreased eight times faster than that of the tribometer with a single cantilever. The faster damping of the double cantilever design is attributed to the mechanical interaction at the contacting surfaces between the cantilever and the connecting plate. Tribotesting using the tribometer with a single cantilever resulted in random fluctuation of frictional forces due to the stick-slip behavior. However, using the tribometer with a double cantilever and connecting plate for the tribotest gave relatively uniform and steady measurement of frictional forces. Increased stiffness owing to using a double cantilever and mechanical damping of the connecting plate were responsible for the stable friction signal.

A mooring system can be applied to keep the position of a floating structures. In this study, the structural analysis is carried out to analyze the dynamic characteristics of a mooring line for a floating breakwater. A three-dimensional equations of motion for a submerged chain are derived. Bending stiffness is considered for the necessary restoring force in the regions of zero tension. A fortran program is to be developed by employing finite difference method. In the algorithm, an implicit time integration and Newton-Raphson iteration are adopted. The results of simulation show good agreement in tension response pattern with the experimental results of a reference. The results of this study can contribute for the design of mooring system for a floating breakwater.
Some optimal designs and data analysis methods based on a Gaussian spatial linear model for computer simulation experiments are considered. For designs of computer experiments, Latin-hypercube designs and some optimal designs are combined. A two-stage computational (2-points exchange and Newton-type) algorithm for finding the optimal Latin-hypercube design is presented. The spatial prediction model which was discussed by Sacks, Welch, Mitchell and Wynn(1989) for computer experiments, is used for analysis of the simulated data. Moreover, a method of contructing sequential (optimal) Latin-hypercube designs is considered. An application of this approach to the quality improvement and optimization of the integrated circuit design via the main-effects plot and the sequential experimental strategy is presented.

The ionic composition of soil solution is related to a nutrient uptake by plant. Many models for estimating ionic composition of solution have been developed, and most of them have been used for calculating a content of mineral and ionic species in a geochemical point of view. An approximation model considering both cation and anion in soil solution was developed. Variables such as pH, Eh, EC, cations(K, Ca, Mg. Na, Fe, Mn, Al, $NH_4{^+}$), anions(Si, S, P, CY, $NO_3{^-}$, $HCO_3{^-}$ and chemical equilibria of ionic species in soil solution were input into Excel sheet. The activities of soluble ion, ionpairs and complexes of input element were estimated by Newton-Raphson method using conditional equilibrium constant calculated by Davies equation and special models. Equilibrium contents of insoluble minerals and complexes were also calculated.

Behavioral characteristics of shallow circular arches with dynamic loading and different end conditions are analysed. Geometric nonlinearity is modelled using Lagrangian description of the motion. The finite element analysis procedure is used to solve the dynamic equation of motion, and the Newmark method is adopted in the approximation of time integration. The behavior of arches is analysed using the buckling criterion and non-dimensional time, load and shape parameters which Humphreys suggested. But a new deflection-ratio formula including the effect of horizontal displacement plus vertical displacement is presented to apply for the non-symmetric buckling problems. Through the model analysis, it's confirmed that fix-ended arches have higher buckling stability than hinge-ended arches, and arches with the same shape parameter have the same deflection ratio at the same time parameter when loaded with the same parametric load.

Regarding previously-developed drone simulators, it was easy to check their flight stability or controlling functions based on the condition that their weight was fixed from the design. However, the drone is largely classified into two types that is the one with the fixed weight whose purpose is recording video with camera and racing and another is whole weight-variable during flight with loading the articles for delivery and spraying pesticide though the weight of airframe is fixed. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the structure of drone and its flight principle, suggest dynamics-model-based simulator that is capable of simulating weight-variable drone and develop the simulator that can be used for designing main control board, motor and transmission along the application of weight-variable drone. Weight-variable simulator was developed by using various calculation to apply flying method of drone to the simulator. First, ground coordinate system and airframe-fixing coordinate system were established and switching matrix of those two coordinates were made. Then, dynamics model of drone was established using the law of Newton and moment balance principle. Dynamics model was established in Simulink platform and simulation experiment was carried out by changing the weight of drone. In order to evaluate the validity of developed weight-variable simulator, it was compared to the results of clean flight public simulator against existing weight-fixed drone. Lastly, simulation test was performed with the developed weight-variable simulation by changing the weight of drone. It was found out that dynamics model controlled various flying positions of drone well from simulation and the possibility of securing the optimum condition of weight-variable drone that has flying stability and easiness of controlling.

This study intended to find the differences between expert's and novice's thinking processes when they solve physics problems. Five physics professors and twenty sophomore students in a physics department were participated in the study. The researcher investigated their thinking processes in solving three physics problems on NEWTON's law of motion. The researcher accepted so called "Thinking Aloud" method. The thinking processes were recorded and transfered into protocols. The protocols were analysised by problem solving process coding system which was developed by the researcher on the basis of Larkin's problem solving process model. The results were as follows: (1) There was no difference of time required in solving physics problem of low difficulty between expert and novices; but, it takes 1.5 times longer for novices than experts in solving physics problems which difficulties are high and average. (2) Novices used working forward strategy and working backward strategy at the similiar rate in solving physics problems which difficulties were average and low. while Novices mo mostly used working backward strategy in solving physic problems which difficulty was high. Experts mostly used working forward strategy in solving physics problems whose difficulties was average and low, however experts used working forward strategy and working backward strategy at the similiar rate in solving physics problem which difficulty was high. (3) Novices usually wrote only a few information on the diagram of figure they drawn, on the other hand experts usually wrote almost all the information which are necessary for solving the problems. (4) Experts spent much time in understand the problem and evaluation stage than novices did, however experts spent less time in plan stage than novices did. (5) Physics problems are solved in sequence of understanding the problem, plan, carrying out the plan, and evaluation steps regardless of problem difficulty.
The Cassegrain telescope consists of a primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror. In the case of a secondary mirror, it is more difficult to test wavefront error than for a primary mirror, because it reflects the entire testing beam, as it is convex in shape. In this paper we tested the wavefront error of a complex aspheric convex secondary mirror by using the Simpson-Oland-Meckel Hindle test. To separate the systematic errors, such as fabrication error and alignment error of a meniscus lens, we adopted the QN absolute test (pixel-based absolute test using the quasi-Newton method) as well. Finally, we compared the measured result with that of an ASI (Aspheric Stitching Interferometer) made by the QED company, which resulted in an rms difference of only 2.5 nm, showing a similar shape of astigmatism aberration.
