뉴스 아카이브 시스템을 구축하기 위하여서는 먼저 뉴스 비디오 스트림을 기사 단위로 인덱싱하고, 사용자가 기사 비디오를 모두 시청하지 않아도 그 내용을 이해할 수 있도록 하는 추상화 방법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 뉴스 비디오 스트림에 대하여 샷 타입을 이용하여 기사 단위로 인덱싱할 수 있는 새로운 기사 경계 검출 방법 및 기사 추상화 방법을 제안하다. 제안한 인덱싱 방법에서는 뉴스 비디오의 샷들을 앵커 샷, 인터뷰 샷, 연설 샷, 보도 샷, 그래픽 자료 샷 등으로 나눈다. 모든 기사는 앵커 샷으로 시작하고, 앵커 샷은 다른 샷에 비하여 길이가 길고 특별한 화면 구조를 가지고 있기 때문에 이를 이용하여 기사 단위의 인덱싱을 수행한다. 또한 각 기사에 대한 효과적인 추상화를 위하여 앵커 샷의 오른쪽 위에 있는 그래픽 데이타와 기사를 이루는 다른 샷들의 키 프레임들을 이용한 기사 포스터를 구성하는 방법을 제안하였다. 여러 종류의 뉴스 비디오 스트림에 대한 실험 결과에 의하면 본 논문에서 제안한 기사 경계 검출 알고리즘의 검출율(recall) 및 정확도 (precision)값이 각각 0.92 및 0.96 이상 됨을 알 수 있다. 또한 본 논문에서는 WWW상에서 수행되는 뉴스 아카이브 시스템의 프로토타입 시스템의 설계 및 구현에 대하여서도 설명한다.

The purpose of the study was to analyze agricultural and rural news in mass media reporting. This study analyzed the representation of agricultural and rural news of Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), established in 1947 as a public service broadcaster and the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), established in 1990 as a private service broadcaster in Korea. There has been criticisms of isolated and anecdotal reporting of agricultural and rural issues, thus, leading to negative public perception mainly influenced by mass media even though there has been increases in the publicity activities regards agricultural policies in the KBS and SBS broadcasting news. This study was designed to reveal the merits of the preceding criticisms. For this purpose, a total of 437 news items issued between September 2004 and August 2005 were analyzed via content and framing analysis research methodologies. The major findings and conclusions of the study were as follows: 1. Content analysis of agricultural and rural news revealed that the lack of relative quantity and 'in-depth analysis' in agricultural reporting and the thematic concentration on negative news and flash events were the most prominent characteristics of Korean broadcasting news. 2. The quantity of agricultural news was relatively insufficient and qualitatively superficial and stereotyped lacking in comprehensive understanding of agricultural and rural issues and inclined toward flash events and crisis-oriented. Based on the findings and conclusions, following recommendations are offered; 1) Agricultural institutions should consider changing the images of rural society and farmers implementing agricultural and rural policies in the future, and perception of the general public should be considered in reporting agricultural and rural news. 2) Further research should be conducted to provide practical implications for the broadcast media on the agricultural information system.

최근 정형화된 구조를 갖는 뉴스 동영상 비디오에 대한 아카이브 시스템을 구축하기 위한 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 그러나 기존의 시스템에서는 기사에 대한 메타 데이타를 저장하는 방법이 서로 다르기 때문에 이런 데이타 사이의 호환성이 없다는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 멀티미디어 내용 정보를 표현하기 위한 표준인 MPEC-7 MDS에 바탕을 둔 뉴스 동영상 스키마를 제안하였으며, 또한 기사를 이루는 각 샷들의 특징을 반영한 기사 요약 방법을 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 뉴스 동영상을 위한 스키마는 뉴스 구조의 특성을 반영하여 MPEG-7 MDS의 VideoSegment, TextAnnotation 등과 같은 스키마를 이용하여 설계하였고, 요약 방법에서는 요약 비디오 데이타의 크기를 줄이기 위하여 샷들의 키프레임들만을 해당 오디오와 함께 상영하는 슬라이스 쇼 방법을 사용하였다.

본 논문은 뉴스 기사의 댓글에 대한 사용자의 감정을 분류하는 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 댓글의 문서 분류 시스템으로 기계학습에 기반을 두고 있다. 댓글은 일반적인 문서와 달리 본문을 가지고 있으며 본문의 내용이 독자의 감정에 영향을 줄 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 댓글의 특성과 여러 가지 자원을 이용하여 감정 분류를 위한 자질을 제안하고 이들의 가중치 설정 방법을 제안한다. 실험을 통해 이러한 가중치 설정 방법이 한글 뉴스의 댓글에 대한 감정을 분류하는데 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 댓글과 같이 많은 오류를 포함하는 문서에 대해서 문자 단위의 2음절과 3음절 자질도 충분히 이용 가치가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 향후에 뉴스 기사의 댓글뿐 아니라 상품 댓글 등 일반적인 감정 분석에 적용할 계획이다.

The HKIB, or Hankookilbo, test collections are two archives of Korean newswire stories manually categorized with semi-hierarchical or hierarchical category taxonomies. The base newswire stories were made available by the Hankook Ilbo (The Korea Daily) for research purposes. At first, Chungnam National University and KISTI collaborated to manually tag 40,075 news stories with categories by semi-hierarchical and balanced three-level classification scheme, where each news story has only one level-3 category (single-labeling). We refer to this original data set as HKIB-40075 test collection. And then Yonsei University and KISTI collaborated to select 20,000 newswire stories from the HKIB-40075 test collection, to rearrange the classification scheme to be fully hierarchical but unbalanced, and to assign one or more categories to each news story (multi-labeling). We refer to this modified data set as HKIB-20000 test collection. We benchmark a k-NN categorization algorithm both on HKIB-20000 and on HKIB-40075, illustrating properties of the collections, providing baseline results for future studies, and suggesting new directions for further research on Korean text categorization problem.

대규모의 실시간 주문형 뉴스 제공 시스템(Real Time News On Demand)에서는 다수의 사용자들이 디스크에 저장된 뉴스 데이터를 실시간으로 동시에 접근하여 최대로 수용할 수 있는 사용자 수는 총 디스크 대역폭의 제한을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 디스크 대역폭의 한계를 극복하기 위하여 디스크 비용의 일부로 버퍼 캐쉬를 구성하여 실시간 뉴스 데이터에 적합하도록 버퍼를 블록 단위가 아닌 오브젝트 단위로 할당하는 버퍼 캐쉬 정책을 사용하고, 캐슁 대상 뉴스 데이터를 현재의 디스크 대역폭의 사용 정도와 해당 뉴스 데이터의 평균 요청 간격을 고려하여 선별함으로써 재접근 가능서이 낮은 데이터의 경우 캐슁 대상에서 제외시켜 볼 필요한 버퍼의 재 할당에 의한 메모리 오버헤드를 방지하는 실시간 뉴스 데이터에 적합한 캐슁 방법을 제안한다. 이렇게 함으로써 접근 빈도수가 높은 데이터의 경우 디스크의 접근 없이도 데이터의 획득이 가능하게 되어 디스크만으로 저장 시스템을 구성할 때와 비교하여 저 비용으로 저장 시스템을 구성할 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제안한 알고리즘의 성능을 시뮬레이션을 통하여 평가한 결과, 본 논문에서 제안한 캐슁 방법으로 뉴스 데이터에 대한 사용자의 요청을 처리했을 경우, 디스크만으로 저장 서버를 구성하였을 경우보다 30% 이상의 사용자를 지원할 수 있다.

기술동향정보는 연구개발 활동과 과학기술정책의 결정과정에서 매우 중요한 요소이다. 그러나 기술동향정보 메타데이터에 관한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 이 연구는 뉴스분야에서 표준적 위치에 있는 NewsML을 참고하되, 국내 기술동향정보 서비스에서 사용된 요소를 고려하여 기술동향정보 메타데이터 요소와 스킴을 제안하였다. 이 연구 결과는 앞으로 국내의 실정에 맞는 기술동향정보 메타데이터 표준을 개발하기 위한 기초자료로 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

앵커 장면 검출은 내용기반 뉴스 비디오 색인과 검색 시스템에서 비디오 장면의 의미적 파싱과 색인을 추출하는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 논문은 스포츠 뉴스의 단위 구조화를 위해서 뉴스 동영상에 존재하는 앵커 구간을 구분해내는 효율적인 알고리즘을 제안한다. 앵커 장면을 검출하기 위해서, 우선 MPEG4 압축 비디오에서 DCT 계수치와 모션 방향성 정보를 이용하여 앵커 후보 장면을 결정한다. 그리고 검출된 후보앵커 장면으로부터 영상처리 방법을 활용하여 뉴스 비디오를 앵커 장면과 비앵커(스포츠) 장면으로 분류한다. 제안된 방법은 앵커 장면 검출 실험에서 평균적으로 98%의 정확도와 재현율을 얻었다.

인터넷이 빠르게 보급됨에 따라 많은 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 접할 수 있게 되었다. 이에 따라 사용자들이 쉽게 멀티미디어 컨텐츠에 접근하게 하기 위해 여러 가지 방법으로 이를 재구성하여 데이터베이스를 만드는 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 이러한 추세에 발맞추어 MEPG-7 표준이 진행 중에 있고, 사용자들이 대용량의 멀티미디어 컨텐츠에 대한 접근을 용이하게 하기 위해 멀티미디어 요약과 같은 기법들이 표준화되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG-7에 제안된 충실도 (fidelity) 기술법(description scheme)을 이용하여 뉴스를 효과적으로 요약할 수 있는 방법에 대해 제안한다.

A video summary abstracts the gist from an entire video and also enables efficient access to the desired content. In this paper, we propose a novel method for summarizing news video based on multimodal analysis of the content. The proposed method exploits the closed caption data to locate semantically meaningful highlights in a news video and speech signals in an audio stream to align the closed caption data with the video in a time-line. Then, the detected highlights are described using MPEG-7 Summarization Description Scheme, which allows efficient browsing of the content through such functionalities as multi-level abstracts and navigation guidance. Multimodal search and retrieval are also within the proposed framework. By indexing synchronized closed caption data, the video clips are searchable by inputting a text query. Intensive experiments with prototypical systems are presented to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the proposed method in real applications.
