컨셉 주도형 제품혁신전략의 성공요인에 관한 연구: (주)VK 슬림폰 개발사례를 중심으로 (A Study on Key Success Factors for the Concept-driven Product Innovation Strategy: a Case of the Slim-Phone development process)

  • This paper examines critical successful elements related to the management of new product development process. For this, we have selected a VK-X100, slim bar type cellular phone, produced by VK mobile co., which was thought as a successful product development case and then analysed the case from a concept driven strategic product development's point of view. We have performed in-depth interviews with project managers, engineers and designers to get information on the product development process and analysed huge amount of data obtained from web-sites, global market indicators, and related firms' materials to find a changing trend of market conditions. The findings suggest that the successful new Product development and management is shaped by a number of different factors, such as the business environments, firm's technological level, firm's deep market insight capabilities, nature of the product development activities, and so on. Finally, we suggested the limitation of our research and further research subjects that would be required to support our findings.

  • Manufacturing firms face a paradigm shift from industrial systems driven by efficiency to post-industrial systems where success depends on a quick-response to customer demands for a variety of high-quality products. In essence, time is becoming a critical dimension for competition. New information technologies allow many firms to pursue time-based competitive strategies. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship among the types of information technology, behaviors of suppliers, the structures of new product development processes, and the competitiveness of the firms. The data for this study were collected from 96 Korean manufacturing firms that have implemented certain types of information technologies. Research results from LISREL analysis confirm that the competitiveness comes from product innovation capabilities and innovative product development process. But the linkage between the information technologies and the firms' competitiveness proves to be indirect. Suppliers, organizational culture related to IT, and some other factors also have indirect impact on the competitiveness. A summarized report of other findings is provided as well.

  • 오늘날 비즈니스 환경에서 기업이 직면한 가장 심각한 문제는 신제품개발성과에 실패하는 것이다. 통계적으로 매년 출시된 신제품의 거의 과반수이상이 시장에서 성공하지 못한 것으로 나타났다. 기술진보가 혁신적으로 일어남에도 불구하고 소비자의 기대수준은 더욱 높아지고 국내외 경쟁이 치열해짐에 따라 신제품 수명주기는 갈수록 짧아지고 있다. 시장에서 장기간 성공할 수 있는 상품을 개발하지 않고는 기업은 살아남기가 어렵다. 결국 기업의 성공과 실패에서 가장 중요한 문제는 신제품의 성공적인 도입과 개발일 수밖에 없다. 기존 연구에서 신제품개발성과를 달성하기 위해 다양한 요인을 제시하고 있지만 본 연구에서는 동적역량을 주요 요인으로 보고 구성요인을 파악하고자 한다. 기업이 지속적으로 생존하고 발전하기 위해서 자원을 획득, 흡수, 통합 및 재구성할 수 있는 역량이 필요하며 변화하는 환경에 적응하기 위해서 신속하게 자원기반을 전환할 수 있는 동적능력이 결정적이기 때문이다. 156개의 중국 중소제조기업을 대상으로 실증분석을 한 결과 학습역량, 재구성역량, 동맹역량이 신제품개발성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 환경동태성이 높을수록 통합역량과 재구성역량이 신제품개발성과에 강하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

R&D집중기업의 역량이 수출성과에 미치는 요인 분석: 중소기업과 중견기업을 중심으로 (The Impact of the Capabilities of R&D Intensive Firms on Export Performance: Focusing on SMEs and Mid-sized Firms)

  • 본 연구는 매출액 대비 R&D 투자 지출이 5%이상인 R&D집중 중소 중견기업을 대상으로 기업역량과 수출성과간의 관계를 실증적으로 검증하였다. 더불어 기업의 성장이라는 관점에서 중소기업과 중견기업의 역량차이를 비교 분석하였다. 기업역량으로는 선행연구를 토대로 신제품 개발역량, 해외시장정보역량, SNS 및 커뮤니케이션 역량, 브랜드 역량, 마케팅 역량 등 5개 역량을 분석대상으로 하였다. 분석결과, 중소기업과 중견기업간에는 5개 역량 중 해외시장정보역량과 브랜드 역량에서 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 2개 역량 공히 중견기업이 중소기업보다 높았다. 또한 역량과 수출성과간의 관계에 있어서는 5개의 역량중 해외시장정보역량, SNS 및 커뮤니케이션 역량, 브랜드 역량이 수출성과에 유의한 정적인 영향을 미치는 변인으로 확인되었다. 즉, 이 세가지 역량이 클수록 수출성과가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 R&D집중 중소. 중견기업이 수출성과를 확대하기 위해선 해외시장정보역량, SNS 및 커뮤니케이션 역량, 브랜드 역량을 우선적 강화하여야 한다는 시사점을 얻었다. 특히, 일반적인 마케팅 역량은 수출성과에 유의한 영향이 확인되지 않은 반면 SNS 및 커뮤니케이션 역량은 정(+)의 영향이 미치는 것으로 검증되었다. 이는 R&D 집중기업이 수출성과를 늘리기 위해서는 기존의 마케팅 방법과 함께 혁신적인 마케팅 방법도 활용하여야 한다는 의미로 해석될 수 있다. 또한, 기업의 성장관점에서 R&D 집중 중소기업이 중견기업의 역량을 갖추기 위해서는 해외시장 정보역량과 자가 브랜드 역량을 보완하여야 하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • The pharmaceutical industry is an industry that provides medicines related to the health and life of the people. The pharmaceutical industry is a traditional regulation industry with the characteristics of R&D(Research and Development), purchasing, manufacturing, distribution and consumption under strict government management. Until now, pharmaceutical companies have continued to make efforts to maintain competitiveness through patent management, new product development, and marketing. However, industries are rapidly changing, including rising costs for developing new products and expanding generic markets. As these changes and uncertainties in the management environment increase, efforts are required to improve the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry from a new perspective. In this study, we intend to examine the impact of SCM(Supply Chain Management) dynamic capability of pharmaceutical companies on corporate performance through partnerships to respond to market changes and uncertainties. It was determined that the agility, visibility and flexibility that constitutes the SCM dynamic capabilities would affect the performance of pharmaceutical companies. In this study, the importance of SCM dynamic capabilities and cooperative relationships was identified through surveys by SCM managers of pharmaceutical companies. Consequently, in the pharmaceutical industry, which is a regulatory industry, we have identified that SCM dynamic capabilities and cooperative relationships with partner companies have a significant impact on corporate performance.

기술기반 중소기업의 기업가지향성, 조직문화, 거점기관의 지원이 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Technology based Small and Medium-sized Enterprise's Entrepreneurial Orientation, Organizational Culture and the Support of Technopark on the Innovation Performance)

  • 본 연구는 기술기반 중소기업의 전략적 지향성과 조직문화와 함께 테크노파크의 지원이 기업의 혁신역량을 매개하여 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 기술기반 중소기업의 혁신역량에 영향을 미치는 다양한 요인들 가운데 기업이 혁신을 지향하는 기업가지향성과 조직문화를 바탕으로 대기업에 비해 상대적으로 혁신역량이 취약한 기술기반 중소기업이 테크노파크의 기업지원을 활용하여 신제품개발역량을 향상시키고 성과를 창출하는 연구모형을 제시한다. 실증분석을 위해 2019년 9월 9일부터 10월 4일까지 테크노파크로부터 지원받은 경험이 있는 기술기반 중소기업을 대상으로 설문조사를 시행하여 확보한 169개의 유효한 설문 응답을 구조방정식을 사용하여 가설을 검증한다. 실증분석 결과 첫째, 기업가지향성은 신제품개발역량을 매개로 제품혁신성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 조직문화 역시 신제품개발역량을 매개하여 제품혁신성과에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 거점기관의 지원은 신제품개발역량을 매개하여 제품혁신성과에 긍정적인 영향을 보였다. 정책적인 시사점은 첫째, 대기업보다 상대적으로 자원과 역량이 제한적인 기술기반 중소기업 경영진은 테크노파크와 같은 지역혁신거점기관의 지원을 적극적으로 활용하여 혁신역량과 성과를 향상할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 정부와 테크노파크는 수요기업 중심의 지원 프로그램을 개발하고 시행할 필요가 있는데, 특히, 기술기반 중소기업기업의 혁신역량 향상에 집중할 필요가 있다.

기술창업시 전략적 지향성이 창업성과에 미치는 영향 (A Study of the Impacts of Strategic Orientation on the Performance in Technology-based Start-ups)

  • Purpose - Appropriate response to the fast changing economic environment determines SMEs' competiveness in the era of globalization and open market and, therefore, government policies to strengthen SME's competitiveness will be very important in the future. It is time to investigate the element of strategic orientation that is necessary for strengthening the competitiveness of SMEs, and its effect on the success of a business start-up. This study analyzes the network orientation in addition to existing strategic orientation, and focuses on price and quality management capability as mediators for strategic orientation and outcomes of business start-ups. Research design/data/methodology - The orientations of technology-based business founders were classified into market, technology, network, and entrepreneurial orientation. We then investigated the effect of these orientations on product price and quality management capability, as well as the influence of price and quality management capability on the outcome of a business start-up. This study is based on the nation-wide survey of the founders and members of technology-based business establishments. The survey was administered to 300 selected companies via email for a period of one month, at the end of which 175 companies replied with valid answers. Further, for effective and objective research, we used SPSS 14.0 and Amos 7.0 for structural equation modeling assumptions and hypothesis verification. Results - Except for entrepreneurial orientation, the other three orientations, namely, technology, market, and network orientations, affect the price management capability according to our results. The price management capability relates significantly with the sales and customer satisfaction. Especially, technology orientation is the core competency of start-ups that affects price and quality management capabilities. However, technology and entrepreneurial orientation do not influence the outcome of business start-ups, but affect their quality management capabilities. Conclusions - This study confirms that the strategic orientation affects product price as well as quality management capabilities, to introduce new products and achieve successful outcomes. In conclusion, new business founders face the dilemma of trade-off between price and quality in the planning stage of new product development. In particular, price management capability directly affects the outcome. Therefore, price management is more important for a successful start-up than quality management. Especially, during the initial stages of starting up a new business, price management capability entails following the market-leading company, or price penetration strategy. In this stage, price management is dependent on the information from outside rather than on the founder's decision, and it directly affects sales performance and customer satisfaction. In contrast, quality management capability is directly related to the technology capability and market experience of founders. In this case, subjective and proactive decision making is required for differentiation and development of demand in the niche market, which does not directly influence the sales performance and customer satisfaction.

Unpacking the Influence of Entrepreneurial Orientation and Government Support Programs on New Product Performance

  • Purpose - This research paper aims to examine the impact of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and government support programs (GSP) on new product performance in Korean Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME). We specifically focus on the interaction between these two factors and their influence on the new product performance of Korean SMEs. Research design, data, and methodology - We collected survey questionnaires from SMEs that are certified with Inno-biz by the Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS 26 and AMOS to create an integrated model. Result - Based on the analysis, our findings indicate that the proactiveness and innovativeness dimensions of EO have a positive effect on new product performance. However, the risk-taking dimension of EO has a negative effect. Additionally, GSP exhibit both positive and negative moderating effects on different dimensions of EO. Conclusion - It is important to recognize that GSP are not a universal solution for all challenges faced by SMEs. Hence, it is crucial for policy-makers to have a clear understanding of SMEs' capabilities and the level of EO dimensions in order to identify types of GSP that could lead to positive outcomes, while minimizing the negative effects of GSP.

PI6sigma를 이용한 R&D 프로세스 혁신 사례 연구 (A Case Study on R&D Process Innovation Using PI6sigma Methodology)

  • The corporate R&D(Research and Development) has a primary role of new product development and its potential is the most crucial factor to estimate corporate future value. However, its systemic inadequacies and inefficiencies, the shorten product life-cycle to satisfy customer needs, the global operations by outsourcing strategy, and the reduction of product cost, are starting to expose to R&D business processes. The three-phased execution strategy for R&D innovation is introduced to establish master plan for new R&D model. From information technology point of view, PLM(Product Life-cycle Management) is one of the business total solutions in product development area. It is not a system, but the strategic business approach that collaboratively manage the product from beginning stage to end of life in all business areas PLM functions and capabilities are usually used as references to re-design new R&D process. BPA(Business Process Assessment) and 5DP(Design Parameters) in PI6sigma developed by Samsung SDS Consulting division are introduced to establish R&D master plan and re-design process respectively. This research provides a case study for R&D process innovation. How process assessment and PMM(Process Maturity Model) can be applied in business processes, and also it explains process re-design by 5DP method.
