Freeze-dried cortical bones of the goat were transplanted to the experimental fibular defect of 10 dogs for valuating the possibility of xenogeneic bone implantation and the specificity of BM(Bone Morphogenetic Protein). The . freeze-dried cortical bone eliminated antigens and defatted with chloroform and methanol were freeze-dried at $-80{\circ}C$ for preservation of BMP and then sterilized with 50 gas and storaged in room temperature. Ten freeze-dried cortical implants of the goat were transplanted in experimentally defected regions of bilateral fibula of 5 dogs in clinically normal. The transplanted region had been radiographed for observing state of bone union and BALPOone Alkaline Phosphatase) in the serum of the host was measured for valuating activity of oteoblast per 2 week-interval after transplant procedures. New bone formation had been observed early in one of ten regions around implants about the same time as autoimplant regions. It was incorporated with its host bone during 4-12 weeks after transplantation. In another 2 cases of 2 dogs, new bone formation and absorption of implant had been observed from 4 weeks but they were not incorporated completely until 20 weeks. The rest of the freeze-dried bone implants, 7 cases of 4 dogs had not been observed new bone formation nor absorption of implants. The freeze-drying method for implants means to not influence bone incorporation. Although less of union percentages the union form of this experiment were similar to alloimplantation and it may mean to block immunity reaction that disturbs the bone induction by BMP. It demonsknted that the possibility of the xenogenous bone implantation is recognized by reason of the low specificity of BMP between goat and dog.
A new isolate of rod-shaped virus was identified from grafted cactus, Gymnocalycium mihanovichii grafted onto Hylocereus trigonus, in Korea. The virus proved to be a new Tobamovirus and called previously as Tobamovirus-Ca for which we suggest the name Cactus mild mottle virus(CMMoV), because it produced systemic mild mosaic symptoms on its original host. CMMoV is distantly related to known species of the genus Tobamovirus on the basis of host range, serological and sequence analyses. Western blot analysis showed that CMMoV is serologically unrelated to Summons' Opuntia virus which is the only known species of the genus found in cactus plants. The 3'-terminal 2,910 nucleotides have been sequenced for the virus. The coat protein (CP) and movement protein (MP) genes encode 161 and 306 amino acids residues, respectively. The nucleotide and amino acid sequences of the CP were 39.6 % to 49.2 % and 26.4 % to 40.3 % identical to other tobamoviruses, respectively. The MP and 3' noncoding region shared 16.3 % to 23.3 % and 44.6 % to 63.4 % identities, respectively, with the members of the genus. Phylogenetic tree analysis of the CP gene revealed that CMMoV clusters with members of subgroup I of Tobamovirus. CMMoV particles contained genomic RNA along with two subgenomic RNAs, and this characteristics is common in the members of the subgroup II. This is the first information of sequence and comparative analysis of a Tobamovirus that infects cactus.
The present study was performed to compare effects of demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft(DFDBA) with deproteinized bovine bone mineral(DBBM) on periodontal fenestration defect in rats. Twelve adult male rats weighing 500 to 540 grams were used in this study. Periodontal fenestration defects were surgically created with tapered fissure bur(${\Phi}1mm$) at the left side of buccal surface of the mandible. The defect size was from anterior border of the first molar to anterior of the ascending ramus mesiodistally and from just below the alveolar crest to apically 1.5-2mm area apicocoronally with 2mm in depth. Rats were divided into control group, test group I and II. Four defects were assigned to the test group I grafted with DBBM and other 4 defects were assigned to the test group II grafted with DFDBA. The rest of defects were the negative control group. At 10 days and 35 days after surgery, 12 rats were sacrificed through intracardiac perfusion and specimens were obtained prepared with Hematoxylin-Eosin stain for light microscopic evaluation. The results of this study were as follows : 1. In the control group, new bone, osteoid, dense connective tissue were observed in the defects at 10 days. new bone formation was not found but loose connective tissue was formed in the defect and fibrous encapsulation of graft materials was shown in two test groups at 10 days. 2. In all groups, new bone formation was shown in the defect at 35 days. And in the control group, bone formation increased at 35 days than at 10 days. 3. In the test group I and II at 35 days, graft materials were combined with new bone and joined host bone. There was very close contact between new bone, graft materials, and host bone with no gaps. 4. In the test group I and II, new bone formation was similar to that in the control group but not exeeded. In conclusion, in the test group I new bone formation was similar to that in the test group II at 35 days, but there was infiltration of inflammatory cells at 10 days. DFDBA and DBBM were considered as the biocompatible graft materials and effective in the regeneration of new bone.
As international transactions have grown more numerous, situations of disputes related to the transactions are getting more complicated and more diverse. Cost-effective remedies to settle the disputes through traditional methods such as adjudications of a court will be insufficient. There fore, nations are attempting to more efficiently solve investor-state disputes through arbitration under organizations such as the ICSID Convention, the ICSID Additionary Facility Rules, and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules by including the provisions on investor-state dispute settlement at the conclusion of an investment agreement. In case of an arbitration under the ICSID Convention, ICSID directly exercises the supervisorial function on arbitral proceedings, and there is no room for the intervention of national courts. In time of the arbitration where the ICSID Convention does not apply, however, the courts have to facilitate the arbitral proceedings. When the recognition and enforcement of an arbitral award under the ICSID Convention are guaranteed by the Convention, it should be considered that the New York Convention does not apply to them under the Convention Article 7 (1) fore-end. In exceptional cases in which an arbitral award under the ICSID Convention cannot be recognized or enforced by the Convention, the New York Convention applies to the recognition and enforcement because the award is not a domestic award of the country in which the recognition or enforcement is sought. It is up to an interpretation of the New York Convention whether the New York Convention applies to ISDS arbitral awards not based on the ICSID Convention or not. Although an act of the host country is about sovereign activities, a host country and the country an investor is in concurring to the investment agreement with the ISDS provisions is considered a surrender of sovereignty immunity, and it will not suffice to exclude the investment disputes from the scope of application of the New York Convention. If the party to the investment agreement has declared commercial reservation at its accession into the New York Convention, it should be viewed that the Convention applies to the recognition and enforcement of the ISDS awards to settle the disputes over an investitive act, inasmuch as the act will be considered as a commercial transaction. When the recognition and enforcement of an arbitral award on investment disputes about a nation's sovereign act have been sought in Korea and Korea has been designated the place of the investment agreement arbitration as a third country, it should be reviewed whether the disputes receive arbitrability under the Korean Arbitration Act or not.

The genus Microplitis (Braconidae: Microgastrinae) is reported for the first time from Korea. The Microplitis has often quite small hypopygium, very short ovipositor and rugose propodeum with large aleola. The genus contains 190 described species, among them 19 speceis were recorded in Korea. Microplitis varicolor was established by Viereck in 1917. The species is found as new to Korea in this study. Microplitis varicolor is endoparasitoid, especially attacking species of Noctuidae (Insecta: Lepidoptera) including pests of leguminous crop. In this study, diagnosis, photographs and host lists are included.
A new stochastic process is introduced for describing a mechanism of viruses. The process generalizes the $Bartoszy\'{n}ski's$ process ($Bartoszy\'{n}ski$, 1975a, 1975b, 1976) by allowing the stochastic perturbation between consecutive jumps to take into account the persistent infection (the infection without breaking infected cells). It is shown that the new process can be obtained by a weak limit of a sequence of Markov branching processes. Along with the construction of the new process, we study how the stochastic perturbation influences the risk of a symptom in an infected host. For this purpose, the quantal response model and the threshold model are investigated and compared through their induced survival functions.
Along with the wide acceptance of IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN), new applications such as Internet protocol (IP) telephony over WLAN are fast emerging today. For battery-powered IP phone devices, the life time extension is a key concern for the market acceptance while today's 802.11 is not optimized for snch an operation. In this paper, we propose a novel idle mode operation, which comprises paging, idle handoff, and delayed handoff. Under the idle mode operation, a mobile host(MH) without any active session does not need to perform handoff within a predefined paging area (PA). Only when it enters a new PA, an idle handoff is performed. The proposed idle mode allows an MH without traffic to extend its life time. We develop a new analytical model in order to comparatively evaluate our proposed scheme. The numerical resnlts demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes with respect to power consumption.
An isolate 90-GT-302, identified as Kitasatosporia kimorexae, was found to produce antibiotics that induce mycelial swelling in Magnaporthe grisea, and Fusarium solani. The strain produced at least 5 antibiotics. Among them, the main active compound designated as kimorexin A was isolated and its physico-chemical properties and biological activities were examined, and as a result was found to be of the thiopeptide antibiotic. A comparison between the properties of kimorexin A and those of the known thiopeptide antibiotics led us to conclude that kimorexin A was a new thiopeptide polythiazolyl antibiotic. Kimorexin A showed a narrow antimicrobial spectrum against very limited genus of phytopathogenic fungi. It prevented host plants from infections of Rhizoctonia solani and absolute parasitic fungi, such as Sphaerotheca fuliginea and Puccinia recondita, almost completely at the treatment concentration of approximately 20 ppm.
Contents 1We developed a new type of lower part of the human-sized BWR (biped walking robot) driven by a new actuator based on the ball screw which has high strength and high gear ratio. Each leg of the robot is composed of three pitch Joints and one roll joint. In all, a 8 degree-of-freedom robot was developed. A new type of actuator for the robot is proposed, which is composed of four bar link mechanism driven by the ball screw. The BWR was designed to walk autonomously by adapting small DC motors for the robot actuators and has an embeded controller system including host computer, batteries and motor drivers. In the performance test, we had basic stable walking data so far, but we f...
