Twenty seven species of the subtribe Harpalina from the Korean Peninsula are mentioned here, of which the following six species have not yet been collected from South Korea: Harpalus simplicidens, Ophonus stricticollis, Trichotichnus lucidus, T. gerni, T. vicinus, and T. leptopus.

Herein, 29 species of the harpaline ground beetles are listed from the Korean Peninsula. Of these, distribution of the two species, Harpalus (Harpalus) tardus (Panzer 1797) and H. (H.) tibeticus hsifanicus Schauberger, 1932, are very doubtful in the Korean Peninsula.

An identification key to twenty-nine species of Porina known from Vietnam is provided. In addition, new records of Porina eminentior, P. meridionalis and P. nuculastrum are described from the protected rain forests in southern Vietnam. A detailed taxonomic account of the newly reported species is provided and supported by its ecology, distribution, and illustrations.

Two pleurostomatid ciliates, Amphileptus litonotiformis Song, 1991 and Kentrophyllum setigerum (Quennerstedt, 1867), were collected from the coastal waters of Korea. Their morphologies are described based on live observation and protargol impregnation, and their diagnoses and morphometrics are provided. Additionally, sequence information of small subunit ribosomal RNA obtained from two species were reported.

In this paper, a new fast algorithm of FIR least squares filter with linear phase is presented. The general unknown statistics case is considered, whereby only sample records of the data are available. Taking advantage of the near-to-Toeplitz+Hankel structure of the resulting normal equation, a fast algorithm which gurantees the linear phase constraint, is developed that recursively produces the filter coefficient of linear phase FIR filter for a single block of data.

A total of twenty one species of marine macro-algae were reported from 460 kms long Orissa coast in the east coast of India. Of these 9 species belongs to Chlorophyta, 2 to Phaeophyta and 10 to Rhodophyta. The low species richness compared with southern and western coasts of India was due to lack of rocky and/or coral substratum. Enteromorpha usneoides and Gelidium divaricatum were reported first from India. Enteromorpha linza, E. clathrata, Colpomenia sinuosa, Dictyota dichotoma, Catenella impudica, Compsopogon aeruginosus and Grateloupia lithophila were the new records for Orissa coast.

Recently, DNA fingerprinting has been utilized as the most powerful tool for genetic analysis and improvement of poultry. This technique enables us to solve several problems of poultry breeding ; traits of low heritability, difficulty in keeping the performance records, measuring in late of life, and sex limited traits. Application of DNA fingerprinting is chiefly focused to individual and population identification, evolution force, quantitative trait marker, introgression of new gene, and prediction of heterosis. Thus, research work on DNA fingerprinting will he accelerated to analyze genetic components exactly and improve the performance of poultry.

Testate amoebae are useful organisms when evaluating the condition of freshwater ecosystems and wetland habitats. Herein, I report on seventeen unrecorded species of testate amoebae from Korea: Arcella arenaria, A. costata, A. hemisphaerica, Centropyxis constricta, C. discoides, C. spinosa, Difflugia amphora, D. globulosa, D. longicollis, D. penardi, Heleopera rosea, Hyalosphenia subflava, Nebela militaris, N. penardiana, Netzelia wailesi, Cyphoderia ampulla, and C. trochus.

Three xanthid crabs, Liomera margaritata, Neoxanthops lineatus and Pilodius miersi, are described and illustrated for the first time in Korea. Liomera margaritata and N. lineatus are the first species of their genera to be found in Korea. The three species represent extensions of their previously known ranges and bring the number of known species of the xanthid crabs to 25 from Korean waters.
