  • Eighteen new bivoltine silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) hybrids developed at Andhra Pradesh State Sericul-ture Research and Development Institute, Hindupur are evaluated for 10 economic traits by following two multiple trait index methods, i.e., Subordinate Function and Evaluation Index for their economic merit. The hybrid genotype, APS6${\times}$APS11 with highest Subordinate function value of 8.2432 and highest average Evaluation Index of 61.67 ranked first. This hybrid is adjudicated as most promising hybrid and recommended for commercial use. Further, applicability of Subordinate Function Index Method is tested and recommended for application of multiple trait evaluation similar to Evaluation Index Method as the results obtained are comparable. Further, both these methods can be applied for confirmation of results.

  • The companies are trying to apply to software development approach by utilizing open-source components. The open-source components are new alternatives to solve limits of the previous software developments such as quality of software, time and cost of development. Accordingly, various analysis of open-source components were performed. However, the researches about the detailed procedures and methods to utilize open-source components in practical industry are immature. In this paper, we propose the procedures and cases for identifying, validating, selecting of suitable open-source components and for applying to change and modification. Proposed procedures and cases will be a great contribution to spread of utilizing the open-source.

  • Increasing demands in productivity are propelling the development of new manufacturing methods like hard machining, high speed cutting (HSC) or machining of difficult to machine materials. In these processes the toois are subjected to very severe mechanical, tribological and thermal loads. They fail prematurely by abrasion, cratering, edge breakage and cold welding. The performance of such tools will be enhanced by better and more wear resistant coatings. The development of these new coatings shows a clear trend towards complex multi-component and multi-layer configurations. TiAIN multilayer coating belongs to these coatings for the new cutting tool generation. This paper tries to explain the benefits of the new coatings. TiAIN multilayer coating offers the following advantages: reduction of manufacturing costs. boost productivity, and lower coolant procurement, conditioning and disposal costs.

  • The purpose of the article is to address a new instructional approach to a complex engineering course. We design a novel instructional method that combines mobile technology, simulation program, collaborative teamwork, problem-solving process, and a variety of evaluation techniques. We suggested five instructional principles that might be required to change the fundamental educational process by which learning is done. The proposed instructional method is expected to aspire for new perspectives on complex learning environment. Nevertheless we solely began by the research on the development of students' complex problem-solving performance in a complex engineering course, the new instructional method in the article can promote the adoption of new instructional methods and strategies across different knowledge domains. In addition, the instructional method can provide a valuable bridge to acquisition and transfer of problem solving, motivation, and meaning learning.

  • The Development of new asymmetric induction methods useful for syntheses of biologically active natural products and drugs, using C4-chiral 1,3-th-iazolidine-2-thiones, has been a recent focus of interest. 1-8) The present account describes the significance of particular heterocycles in the synthetic development of new 1${\beta}$-substituted carbapenems. A fungal metabolite, (+)-thienamycin (1) has attracted one's attention as a hopeful candidate for new-generation antibiotic drugs because of its strong antimicrobial activities and wide antimicrobial spectra due to the extensive inhibition against various ${\beta}$-lactamases. However, it has been serious problems toward a practically useful drug that (+)-thienamycin is fairly labile in the solution and can be metabolized by renal dehydropept- idase-I (DHP-I). Recently, a Merck Sharp & Dohme research group exploited a non-natural ${\beta}$-lactam, imipenem (2) which has been appeared in the drug market as the first carbapenem-type antibiotic drug. 9) However 2 must be used with a DHP-I inhibitor, cilastatin sodium (3).9) Thus, a 1,${\beta}$-methyl- carbapenem derivative 4 has been disclosed by the same group. 10) It seems to be more hopeful candidate as a new-generation antibiotic because it can directly resist against metabolism by the renal DHP-1 without an enzyme inhibitor 3. 10)

  • This study starts from the awareness of the problem that consumers are isolated from the standing spray product planning, and thus suggests effective designs and methods to the new standing spray design process. The ultimate purpose of this study is to suggest practicable new standing spray design outputs. Service design is based on customer experience, and thus it is intangible, process-centered and based on various relations. Applying the service design to the development of new standing spray designs has the following significance. (1) Service design is an effective method for maximizing customer-centered experience. The customer-centered method of service design promotes practicability of new standing spray design. (2) Service design solves various problems by mediating opinions among various stakeholders. Effective and practicable solutions could not be found for new standing spray design despite various efforts that had been made for a long time. Since each step of the process is approached separately, it is necessary to take an overview of the whole process like service design. (3) Service design lays stress on process in which stakeholders participate. Participation and collaboration among stakeholders in the new standing spray design process will improve their satisfaction and enthusiasm to implement the new system.

  • To probe the chemical constituents of Patrinia scabra, we undertook the phytochemical investigation on its roots, which led to the isolation and elucidation of three new iridoid glucosides, scabroside A-C (1-3), along with three known iridoids, jatamanin J (4), isopatriscabroside I (5) and loganic acid (6) from the aqueous fraction of the ethanolic extract of the roots. The structures and relative configurations of the three new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including IR, UV, MS, 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Compound 3 was an unusual iridoid with an oxygen bridge connecting C-3 and C-8.

  • The process of new drug development consists of several stages; after identifying potential candidate compounds, preclinical studies using animal models link the laboratory and human clinical trials. Among many steps in preclinical studies, toxicology and safety assessments contribute to identify potential adverse events and provide rationale for setting the initial doses in clinical trials. Gene modulation is one of the important tools of modern biology, and is commonly employed to examine the function of genes of interest. Advances in new drug development have been achieved by exploding information on target selection and validation using genetically modified animal models as well as those of cells. In this review, a recent trend of genetically modified methods is discussed with reference to safety assessments, and the exemplary applications of gene-modulating tools to the tests in new drug development were summarized.
