  • Clearing trace of symbol which was gone with a series of pre-modern architecture history since the modern architecture (pursuing true nature from tradition which is repeated and imitated unconsciously). That is, What is the course of deconstruction? In the early part of the 20th century, We still accept the necessity of decoration in spite of its existence at one time being threaten. This means, even though symbolism in architecture has relative importance by situation of Times, it plays an important role to add the past to current style through 'Symbol'. The history of Times, a carrier which reflects Present on New Futures, makes memory by gathering data but we can not amplify our historical imagination with only data. Data is a past memory and evidence but we can not substitute that for historical experience. And it is difficult for future generations who don't live through that history to change their historical recognition with recollecting memories. They have to draw history with data but it is very limited in itself. However, They can collect historical memory through symbol in architecture. In this study, We pay attention to the symbolism of a memorial hall architecture. So We'll analyze dichotomy concept of Barthes's signifiant and signifie, visual sign and course of symbolic meaning on basis of Daniel Libeskind's Jewish Museum.

The study examines design drawings of architects of deconstructivism to analyze new attitudes toward building forms and programs in contemporary architecture. The study found in the drawings that initially, collages in many different types are often utilized to express simultaneous time and space. Secondly, section drawings become more important to explain ambiguous and complex floor system than before. Thirdly, cinematic montages are utilized to express indeterminate or loose programs. Fourthly, diagrams are utilized to visualize initial conditions and clues of design solution. The study concludes that design drawings are not only representation media admitting of changes and progress but also tools of design creation. creation.

  • Building restoration is a complex process with a high level of uncertainty. Restoration professionals can significantly benefit from the well-established discipline of project management to achieve their targets; however, available evidence shows that the use of the project management body of knowledge in restoration projects is far from the desired level. Several historical organisations have since been established with the goal of preserving and governing cultural identity, and numerous studies have supported the need of preserving architectural heritage. Many owners, investors, academics, and developers believe that it would be considerably more expensive to renovate and restore an old building than to create a new one. Although the project management process is generally recognised, the concept of project management for architectural heritage projects differs due to the uniqueness of each project. It differs from many construction projects in terms of the need for research-based practices to define scope, planning, scheduling, supervision,decision-making,and also performance. The Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria's planning, design, and building phases are being studied with the aim of identifying and analysing the variables that contribute to project delays. Three project management pillars were established as a result of gathering this data from the project's stakeholders: the first pillar addresses time management for the existing phase and how it will be incorporated into the new extension phase; the second pillar addresses performance in relation to project management issues in the delivery of the best quality of a construction project; and the third pillar addresses the scope of the new extension because it will significantly impact the other two pillars. This paper argues that a contemporary perspective which utilizes project management tools and techniques can contribute to the conservation of architectural heritage in line with the conservation principles.

  • Architect Daniel Libeskind made peculiar works with ‘Jewish Museum’ in Berlin as a momentum in 1989. The concern was concentrated after Libeskind was selected ultimately to the designer of ‘Design for the World Trade Center site’ in February 2003. Especially his works which have been recently accomplished are not the deconstructivism were recognized as unreal drawings and simple studies but they are professing his own peculiar architectural thought. However meanwhile researches about Libeskind have been processed in an architect viewpoint of a deconstructivism tendency, lack of researches to be more various point of view. This study fundamentally is sharing the source with Libeskind's basic idea, as a deconstructivism architect, but not to understand essential concept of decorstructivism which has the philosophy grasps of essence of an object, reconstrues contradiction that the human is simple to prescribe by the language and tries to express in new architectural formative volition. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to grasp of Libeskind's own architectural thought of the essence, consider background becomes the foundation of the architectural thought and peculiarity of the architectural representation.

  • The lastest art is being characterised by an ever active exchange between different genre. This is a study on the installation aspect in deconstruction architectured and interior design. The progressive and aggressive nature of installatation art embodies uncatagorized genre, the freedom of material application, introduction of the notion of time in space, the reversion of subject and object, the union of art and every experience, understanding of object through deconstruction, enlargement of concept of space, collage-style composition and layer technique. I can conclude that the installation aspect in Tshumi's Parc de la Villette is its call upon the audience to actively participate, the introduction of a coincidental conjunction, its challenge on the conventional idea of park and its flexibility caused by human activity and time. In Hadid's Hong Kong Peak Club the installation aspect is the application of layer technique using four enormous beams horizontally laid out on a man-made moutain. Furthermore, Libeskind's pursuit of the mental in Berlin Museum Extension through the penetration of an invisible line into a void creates a new interpretation of the role of a museum and thus relates itself to installation art. The installation aspect in Himmelblau's Vienna Roof Renovation is the literal deconstruction of the roof of an old building in the old section of Wien and the expression of time and space through the interrelationship between interior and exterior environment by the use of juxtaposition technique. Finally, I note that the installation aspect in Gehry's Santa Monica Residence is the reorganization of cheap material as a form of 'object', that creates spon-taneity, movement as well as flow of time in space and ex-hibit the double-sidedness of the visible world.

  • The line of demarcation separating architecture from the art in recent years has blurred, due to the expantionist aspects between. This is a study of the direction which contemporary architecture and art are now taking. The results of the study are as follows: 1. The direction of contemporary architecture is revealed through the works of deconstructivist architects and Hans Hollein. Deconstructivist architects have incooperated abstract forms and concepts for their expression. Also Hans Hollein has brought a new aspect to architecture by combining the aura of spirituality and the use of collage. 2. The direction of contemporary art is revealed through the works of installation artists. Daniel Buren works on the interactivity between the object and the observer. Dan Graham deals with the social issues which caused by the interrelation between the eyes and the visual media. Jae-en Choi works on the actual architectural site and space capturing the spirit of what the space is for shile Jung-hwa Jung deals with the layers of perception within a particular space. Another realm coming into being is the cooperation between artists and architects. The cooperation of Holl and Acconci is expressed through their joint project Storefront Gallery. It is the development of Accocis concept of boundary and Holls methodology. Another example of this realm is revealed through the Fish Gallery of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Gehry was introduced to the nature of material by Serra and Serra learned of new ways of viewing the existence of space between materials from Gehry. These new relationships between contemporary architecture and art are reciprocal in nature are indicators of a dynamic and new changing cooperation now emerging.
