The effect of electron beam (EB) irradiation on the electrical properties of Zn-Sn-O (ZTO) thin films fabricated using a sol-gel process was investigated. As the EB dose increased, the saturation mobility of ZTO thin film transistors (TFTs) was found to slightly decrease, and the subthreshold swing and on/off ratio degenerated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of the O 1s core level showed that the relative area of oxygen vacancies ($V_O$) increased from 10.35 to 12.56 % as the EB dose increased from 0 to $7.5{\times}10^{16}electrons/cm^2$. Also, spectroscopic ellipsometry analysis showed that the optical band gap varied from 3.53 to 3.96 eV with increasing EB dose. From the results of the electrical property and XPS analyses of the ZTO TFTs, it was found that the electrical characteristic of the ZTO thin films changed from semiconductor to conductor with increasing EB dose. It is thought that the electrical property change is due to the formation of defect sites like oxygen vacancies.

The embrittlement of fast neutron-irradiated reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels was investigated by X-ray diffraction patterns at room temperature and $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy at room- and liquid nitrogen-temperature. Neutron fluence on the samples were $10^{12},\;10^{13},\;10^{14},\;10^{15},\;10^{16},\;10^{17},\;10^{18}\;n/cm^2$. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the structure of the neutron unirradiated sample was bcc type, where as but the neutron irradiated samples with the fluence higher than $10^{17}\;n/{\cal}cm^2$ were so severely damaged, that bcc type structure disappeared. The $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra of all samples showed superposition of two or more sextets. In this paper all $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra were fitted by three set of sextet. The isomer shift and quadrupole splitting values were found around zero. At liquid nitrogen temperature, magnetic hyperfine field and absorption area increase rapidly S 1 sextet in the samples of $10^{17}\~10^{18}\;n/{\cal}cm^2$ neutron fluences. And at room temperature, magnetic hyperfine field and absorption increased rapidly at SI sextet in the samples of $10^{17}\~10^{18}\;n/{\cal}cm^2$ neutron fluences. This rapid increase of magnetic hyperfine field and absorption area were inferred to be caused by the change of $^{56}Fe,\;^{55}Mn$ into $^{57}Fe$ due to by neutron irradiation.

Fifty ancient Korean coins originated in Choson period have been determined for 11 elements such as Sn, Fe, As, Au, Co, Sb, Ir, Os, Ru and Ni by destructive and non-destructive neutron activation analysis as well as for 3 elements such as Cu, Pb and Zn by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The multivariate data have been analyzed by principal component mapping method. The spread of sample points in the eigenvector polt has been attributed to common origins of some elements.
Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES) have been applied for the determination of inorganic elements in mud flat of south seaside in Korea. The analytical results of Al, Ca, Fe, Mg, K and Na by NAA were compared with those by ICP-AES. The results show that NAA is superior to ICP-AES for the determination of minor elements in sediment. Accordingly, NAA will play an important role in the analysis of environment samples such as mud flat and sediment having complex matrix.
Background: The chemical characterization of metallic alloys and oxides is conventionally carried out by wet chemical analytical methods and/or instrumental methods. Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is capable of analyzing samples nondestructively. As a part of a chemical quality control exercise, Zircaloys 2 and 4, nimonic alloy, and zirconium oxide samples were analyzed by two INAA methods. The samples of alloys and oxides were also analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and direct current Arc OES methods, respectively, for quality assurance purposes. The samples are important in various fields including nuclear technology. Methods: Samples were neutron irradiated using nuclear reactors, and the radioactive assay was carried out using high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometry. Major to trace mass fractions were determined using both relative and internal monostandard (IM) NAA methods as well as OES methods. Results: In the case of alloys, compositional analyses as well as concentrations of some trace elements were determined, whereas in the case of zirconium oxides, six trace elements were determined. For method validation, British Chemical Standard (BCS)-certified reference material 310/1 (a nimonic alloy) was analyzed using both relative INAA and IM-NAA methods. Conclusion: The results showed that IM-NAA and relative INAA methods can be used for nondestructive chemical quality control of alloys and oxide samples.
A radiochemical separation scheme for the neutron activation analysis is developed for the determination of 28 elements in aluminum. The scheme is based on a group separation using ion-exchange resin and mineral exchanger. Present work has employed mineral acids and their partly organic mixture excluding HF as the media as well as common glass wares. For the determination, gamma-ray spectroscopy using $3"\times3"\;Nal(TI)$ detector and a single comparator method are used.

Considering the importance of deuterium in nuclear science including medical and industrial researches such as (BNCT) and nuclear reactors respectively, it is important to study various possible ways in addition to common methods for measuring its concentration. This study is an effort to measure deuterium concentration using PGNAA. The main idea is to calculate the area under 2.23 MeV gamma-rays photo peak resulting from neutron collision with Hydrogen atoms which are in mix with deuterium in samples. The study carried out by both simulation and experiment. Monte Carlo MCNPX2.6 code has been used for simulation and based on its acceptable results an experimental setup has been arranged. The coordination of results was in the range of R = 0.99 and R = 0.98 in simulation and experiment respectively. The accuracy of the study has been investigated by measuring the concentration of an unknown sample by both PGNAA and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) methods in which there were acceptable correlation between these two methods.
Thermal neutron irradiation experiment of boric acid solution was carried out using HANARO in following three conditions: (A) $^{10}B$ concentration = $203.0{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 1 hr; (B) $^{10}B$ concentration = $381.4{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 1 hr; (C) $^{10}B$ concentration = $381.4{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 0.5 hr. The amount of lithium produced from $^{10}B(n{\cdot}{\alpha})^7Li$ reaction which was generated on neutron irradiation, was measured by flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy. The concentration of $^7Li$ measured in the three experiments was $0.18{\mu}g/mL$ (78.3% of theoretical value, $0.23{\mu}g/mL$) in (A), $0.31{\mu}g/mL$ (70.5% of theoretical value, $0.44{\mu}g/mL$) in (B) and $0.16{\mu}g/mL$ (71.6% of theoretical value, $0.22{\mu}g/mL$) in (C). The pH value of irradiated boric acid was shifted to considerably low. It is estimated that boric acid would be transformed into the polyborate fonn, by radiolysis products of water, which has high dissociation constant.

The effect of low temperature ($250^{\circ}C$) heat treatment after electron irradiation (irradiation time = 30, 180, 300s) on the chemical bonding and electrical properties of ZnO thin films prepared using a sol-gel process were examined. XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) analysis showed that the electron beam irradiation decreased the concentration of M-O bonding and increased the OH bonding. As a result of the electron beam irradiation, the carrier concentration of ZnO films increased. The on/off ratio was maintained at ${\sim}10^5$ and the $V_{TH}$ values shifted negatively from 11 to 1 V. As the irradiation time increased from 0 to 300s, the calculated S. S. (subthreshold swing) of ZnO TFTs increased from 1.03 to 3.69 V/decade. These values are superior when compared the sample heat-treated at $400^{\circ}C$ representing on/off ratio of ${\sim}10^2$ and S. S. value of 10.40 V/decade.
Trace elements in two air filters (V-50, P-50) artificially loaded with urban dust provided from IAEA were determined non-destructively using instrumental neutron activation analysis. Standard reference material (Urban Particulate Matter, SRM 1648) of National Institute of Standard and Technology was used for analytical quality control. About 20 elements in both of loaded filter samples were determined. To evaluate inter-laboratory comparison and proficiency test, analytical data were statistically treated with the results which collected from 49 laboratories, 40 countries participated in this study using neutron activation analysis, particle induced X-ray emission, inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy, etc,. From the results of statistical treatment, Z-scores are within ${\pm}2$. Furthermore, accuracy and precision of obtained analytical values are passed according to the criteria of the proficiency test. Consequently, it was proved that analytical quality for air dust samples being performed has been controlled properly.
