The best method is selected among the 3 digital dynamic compensation methods which are developed or applied for the Rhodium self-powered neutron detector. The three digital dynamic compensation methods are the existing Dominant Pol Tustin method of the COLSS(Core Operating Limit Supervisory System), the Direct Inversion method and Kalman Filter method. The Direct Inversion method is an improved method of D. Hoppe and R. Maletti and the Kalman Filter method is developed using the Kalman Filter. Response times of the compensated signals to achieve 90% of a step input are 28.1, 17.2 and 6.5 seconds respectively for the same noise gain telling that the Kalman Filter method is the best amens the 3 methods.
Information on isotopic composition and geometric structure is necessary for identifying a true warhead. Nevertheless, such classified information should be protected physically or electronically. With a novel Hash encryption algorithm, this paper presents a Monte Carlo-based design of a neutron activation analysis verification module. The verification module employs a thermal neutron source, a non-uniform mask (physically encrypting information about isotopic composition and geometric structure), a gamma detector array, and a Hash encryption algorithm (for electronic encryption). In the physical field, a non-uniform mask is designed to distort the characteristic gamma rays emitted by the inspected item. Furthermore, as part of the Hash algorithm, a key is introduced to encrypt the data and improve the system resolution through electronic design. In order to quantify the difference between items, Hamming distance is used, which allows data encryption and analysis simultaneously. Simulated inspections of simple objects are used to quantify system performance. It is demonstrated that the method retains superior resolution even with 1% noise level. And the performances of anti-statistical attack and anti-brute force cracking are evaluated and found to be very excellent. The verification method lays a solid foundation for nuclear disarmament verification in the upcoming era.
GW170817/GRB170817A establishes a double neutron star merger as the progenitor of a short gamma-ray burst, starting 1.7 s post-coalescence. GRB170817A represents prompt or continuous emission from a newly formed hyper-massive neutron star or black hole. We report on a deep search for broadband extended gravitational-wave emission in spectrograms up to 700 Hz of LIGO O2 data covering this event produced by butterfly filtering comprising a bank of templates of 0.5 s. A detailed discussion is given of signal-to-noise ratios in image analysis of spectrograms and confidence levels of candidate features. This new pipeline is realized by heterogeneous computing with modern graphics processor units (GPUs). (Based on van Putten, M.H.PM., 2017, PTEP, 093F01.)
The paper presents the main results of computational and experimental optimization of the automatic power control system (AC) of the IBR-2M pulsed reactor in the presence of a high level of oscillatory instability. Optimization of the parameters of the AC made it possible to significantly reduce the influence of random and deterministic oscillations of reactivity on the noise of the pulse energy, as well as to sharply reduce the manifestation of the oscillatory instability of the reactor. As a result, the safety and reliability of operation of the reactor has increased substantially.

In this paper, analysis of the vibration Characteristic for the Mine Detectable Test Platform is described. The test platform system is the multi-sensor mine detectable vehicle. This multi-sensor mine detectable unit is more efficient detection performance than other conventional methods. The test platform system has five subsystems, the UWB(Ultra Wide Band) sensor scanner, the MD(Metal Detector) sensor scanner, the neutron sensor scanner, and the detectable vehicle. We perform the vibration tests for the test platform and analyze the vibration characteristic, such as the max displacement, the max deformation and the max Von-Misses Stress.

Neutron induced prompt gamma-ray spectroscopy(NIPS) system measures the prompt gamma-ray emitting by the interaction of a neutron with various materials. This system will be of great benefit to scientists worldwide, since it provides the non-destructive measurement of many element in either solid or liquid wastes. In this study, the full-energy-peak (FEP) efficiency calibration for a HPGe detector was constructed in the ${\gamma}$-ray energy range from 80 keV to 8 MeV, using $^{l33}$Ba and >TEX>$^{152}Eu$ RI sources and $ ^{35}Cl(n, ${\gamma}$)^{36}Cl$ thermal neutron captured reaction. The FEP efficiency curve for the higher energies using the $^{35}Cl(n, ${\gamma}$)^{36}Cl$ reaction was normalized with the curve obtained from the RI sources, since the accurate activity of its prompt ${\gamma}$-ray is unknown. The average thermal neutron flux was theoretically calculated using the FEP efficiency curve for the KCl standard solutions. The NIPS system equipped with a ${\gamma}$-${\gamma}$ coincidence setup with two n-type coaxial HPGe detectors was considered in order to reduce the interfering ${\gamma}$-ray background. The FEP efficiency curve for the ${\gamma}$-${\gamma}$ coincidence system was also obtained for full energy range. The performance of the normal and coincidence NIPS system was tested by comparing signal-to-noise ratio in each mode using the reference sample.e.

The grating interferometer provides the differential phase contrast image of an phase object due to refraction of the wavefront by the object, and it needs to be converted to the phase contrast image. The line-integration process to obtain the phase contrast image from a differential phase contrast image accumulates noise and generate stripe artifacts. The stripe artifacts have noise and distortion increases to the integration direction in the line-integrated phase contrast image. In this study, we have configured and compared several machine learning methods to reduce the artifacts. The machine learning methods have been applied to simulated numerical phantoms as well as experimental data from the X-ray and neutron grating interferometer for comparison. As a result, the combination of the wavelet preprocessing and machine learning method (WCNN) has shown to be the most effective.

Time-encoded imagers (TEI) are important class of instruments to search for potential radioactive sources to prevent illicit transportation and trafficking of nuclear materials and other radioactive sources. The energy of the radiation cannot be known in advance due to the type and shielding of source is unknown in practice. However, the response function of the time-encoded imagers is related to the energy of neutrons or gamma-rays. An improved image reconstruction method based on MLEM was proposed to correct for the energy induced response difference. In this method, the count vector versus time was first smoothed. Then, the preset response function was adaptively corrected according to the measured counts. Finally, the smoothed count vector and corrected response were used in MLEM to reconstruct the source distribution. A one-dimensional dual-particle time-encode imager was developed and used to verify the improved method through imaging an Am-Be neutron source. The improvement of this method was demonstrated by the image reconstruction results. For gamma-ray and neutron images, the angular resolution improved by 17.2% and 7.0%; the contrast-to-noise ratio improved by 58.7% and 14.9%; the signal-to-noise ratio improved by 36.3% and 11.7%, respectively.

A control element drive mechanism(CEDM) is a reactor regulating system, which inserts, withdraws or maintains a control rod containing a neutron absorbing material within a reactor core to control the reactivity of the core. The ball-screw type CEDM for the integral reactor has a spring-damper system to reduce the impact force due to the scram of the CEDM. This paper describes the experimental results to obtain the drop and damping characteristics of the CEDM. The drop tests are performed by using a drop test rig and a facility. A drop time and a displacement after an impact are measured using a LVDT. The influences of the rod weight, the drop height and the flow area of hydraulic damper on the drop and damping behavior are also estimated on the basis of test results. The drop time of the control element is within 4.5s to meet the design requirement, and the maximum displacement is measured as 15.6 mm. It is also found that the damping system using a spring-hydraulic damper plays a good damper role in the CEDM.
