A Case Report of the Sa-am Acupuncture and Other Treatment for the Tic Disorder Patient with Tachycardia. (사암침을 주로 사용하여 치료한 빈맥 동반 틱장애 1례)

  • Tic disorder show purposeless, repeated, unexpected, involuntary behavior and voice, can be divided into motor, vocal tic. this is about a patient who suffered from motor tic, tachycardia and other symptoms. We treated him with Sa-am acupuncture and other oriental medicine from the viewpoint of weak of kidney power. involuntary movement was estimated by doctor with Yale Global Tic Severity Scale(YGTSS). The patient's motor tic, tachycardia and other symptoms were improved and YGTSS also decresed.

Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia Treated with Korean Medicine: A Case Report

  • Objectives: To determine the effects of Korean medicine on behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) of an Alzheimer's disease (AD) patient. Methods: A 85-year old female patient diagnosed with AD was treated with herbal medicine formula Chungsimyeonja-tang (淸心蓮子湯), Woohwangchungsim-won (牛黃淸心元), and acupuncture. Korean version of Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE-K) scores were used at baseline and post treatment as outcome measures to evaluate clinical symptoms of the patient. Results: Improvements in MMSE-K post treatment scores were observed compare to those at baseline. BPSD were also alleviated. Such changes were visually noticeable. Conclusions: Herbal medicine and acupuncture treatment were effective in alleviating symptoms of AD. Further studies with a larger sample size and randomized clinical trials are needed to obtain more reliable and valid treatment outcomes.

  • Objectives: Tremor is a common disorder causing abnormal movements, it is defined as, "rhythmic, involuntary movements of a part of the body against ones own volition.". The purpose of this study is to report the effects of Korean Medicine (Acupuncture and herbal-medication) for oromandibular tremor resulting from Deficiency Syndrome. Methods: We treated 6 patients suffering from oromandibular tremor who received hospital treatment in DongEui Medical Center from March to June in 2015. Results: After the treatments, oromandibular tremor decreased or disappeared. And some other accompanying symptoms were improved. Conclusions: These results suggests that Korean medical treatments (Acupuncture and herb-medication) might be effective for treating oromandibular tremor resulting from Deficiency Syndrome.

  • Objectives : The Hwabyung Research Center of The Korean Society Of Oriental Neuropsychiatry has attempted to develop the 'Clinical Guidelines for Hwabyung'. Methods : The Hwabyung Research Center constructed a committee of experts and advisory group. Relevant literature was collected and evaluated in order to discover effective oriental psychotherapy as well as the management of Hwabyung. Results : We found some evidences that proved the effectiveness of oriental psychotherapy in the treatment of Hwabyung. The principles of management were also reviewed. Conclusions : Psychotherapy and management for Hwabyung were studies. We hope that the 'Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment of Hwabyung' is helpful for both oriental medical doctors and patients.

  • Objectives : Hwabyung Research Center of The Korean Society Of Oriental Neuropsychiatry has attempted to develop 'Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment of Hwabyung' based on the clinical study on the theory of oriental medicine and phenomenological approach. The purpose of this guideline is to establish the basic clinical principles and improve the clinical convenience. Methods : Hwabyung Research Center constructed a committee of experts and advisory group. We extracted the core questions, collected the existing data and evaluated them. Simultaneously, we conducted studies on the major topics. Results : We selected and made suitable tools for the assessment and evaluation. We discovered evidences from clinical studies and developed the standard clinical principles. Conclusions : 'Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment of Hwabyung' is expected to be useful at the primary medical clinics of oriental medicine.

  • Tremor is the common symptom clinically and often be continuous with the brain cortex function. Scalp Acupuncture was designed by connecting the Meridian theory with brain cortex functional theory. We carried out four patients with tremor. We operated Scalp Acupuncture on the chorea-tremor area in connection with precentral gyrus which is in charge of the motion of the opposite part of body about 20 minutes. Herbal medication and the other oriental medical treatments were performed. After our treatments, tremor and some other symptoms were improved.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of oriental medical therapy(OMT) and psychotherapy to a somatoform disorder patient with chronic pelycalgia and hemiparesis. Methods: We treated the patient with psychotherapy such as relaxation therapy and suggestion. OMT that we used is represented by retention enema therapy. The recovery of the pelycalgia was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results: Following the treatment the patient's pelycalgia and hemiparesis was improved. The sum of VAS score was rapidly decreased(from 113 to 28). Conclusion: OMT and psychotherapy have positive effects on the patient with chronic pelycalgia and hemiparesis.

  • Delirium is a acute syndrome of disorientation caused by dysfunction of brain tissue and has a many varied symtome. It is characteristic of consciousness distrubance with disorientation and dys-mnesia and emotional distrubance. We experienced a 66 year-old man who had a hydrocephalus and hypertension as well as Delirium caused by cranial trauma, and whose condition was improved through Oriental medical treatment. This case study illustrates what the manifestation of Delirium caused by cranial trauma and drug abuse etc. is and how Delirium improved.

  • Hwa-byung is said as a Korean folk syndrome in DSM- N,and that is translated into ,Anger syndrome', In Oriental Medicine, Hwa-Byung is related with clonic emotional-stress, and include symptoms having the character of 'fire', In this case, the patient had symptoms similar with schizopmenifonn disorder, We treated the patient with Sihoukan-tang, Ssanghwa-tang and Ziunkoron. And her condition was improved through these oriental medical treatment.

  • This is 63 cases report of neurotic patient which have gone to Dep. of Neuropsychiatry of Dongshin University sunchun oriental hospital from October, 2002 to October, 2003. Objective : To find out distributional characteristics of neurotic patient Result : 1. The distribution of sex is Female and of age is thirty, fourty is large. 2. The distribution of a history of case is chronic patient is large. 3. The distributional ratio of psychosomatic : musculoskeletal : gastrointestine symptom of chief complain was 48.7: 25.3: 14.9. 4. The distribution of yanghyulansin ondam: soganhaewul gudam : bohyulansin description was 41.3: 15.9: 9.5. Conclusion : This 63 cases report is relatively small cases about analysis and comparison of neurotic patient. So, it's needed to abundant study of this, afterwards.
