  • Segmenting the compartments of neurons, such as axons, dendrites, and cell bodies, is helpful in the analysis of neurological phenomena. Recently, there have been several studies to segment the compartments through deep learning. However, this approach has the potential to include errors in the results due to noise in data and differences between training data and actual data. Therefore, in order to use these for actual analysis, it is essential to proofread the results. The proofreading process requires a lot of effort and time because an expert must perform it manually. We propose an interactive neuron structure proofreading method that can more easily correct errors in the segmentation results of a deep learning. This method proofread the neuron structure based on the characteristics of the neuron with structural consistency, so that a high-accuracy proofreading result can be obtained with less interaction.

  • A mirror neuron is a neuron fires both when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action performed by another. We propose a method of 3D reconstruction for occluded object motion tracking like Mirror Neuron System to fire in hidden condition. For modeling system that intention recognition through fire effect like Mirror Neuron System, we calculate depth information using stereo image from a stereo camera and reconstruct three dimension data. Movement direction of object is estimated by optical flow with three-dimensional image data created by three dimension reconstruction. For three dimension reconstruction that enables tracing occluded part, first, picture data was get by stereo camera. Result of optical flow is made be robust to noise by the kalman filter estimation algorithm. Image data is saved as history from reconstructed three dimension image through motion tracking of object. When whole or some part of object is disappeared form stereo camera by other objects, it is restored to bring image date form history of saved past image and track motion of object.

  • This paper presents a method for occluded object based motion estimation and tracking system in dynamic image sequences using particle filter with 3D reconstruction. A unique characteristic of this study is its ability to cope with partial occlusion based continuous motion estimation using particle filter inspired from the mirror neuron system in human brain. To update a prior knowledge about the shape or motion of objects, firstly, fundamental 3D reconstruction based occlusion tracing method is applied and object landmarks are determined. And optical flow based motion vector is estimated from the movement of the landmarks. When arbitrary partial occlusions are occurred, the continuous motion of the hidden parts of object can be estimated by particle filter with optical flow. The resistance of the resulting estimation to partial occlusions enables the more accurate detection and handling of more severe occlusions.

  • In this paper a study of neuro-pathway estimation based on visual and somatosensory evoked potential is given. The evoked potentials which are caused by visual and somatosensory stimulation are detected by an average method. The forward problem that is estimating a scalp potential from a given electrical source in the brain is solved by using a triple concentric spherical shell model of the head and a single current dipole model of the neuron activity. The inverse problem which calculates a source position is solved by a least square fit between the model predicted potential and a given evoked potential measurement. The similarities between estimated sensory neuro-pathways and physiological brain function regions are verified.

  • Olig2 transcription factor is widely expressed throughout the central nervous system; therefore, it is considered to have multiple functions in the developing, mature and injured brain. In this mini-review, we focus on Olig2 in the forebrain (telencephalon and diencephalon) and discuss the functional significance of Olig2 and the differentiation properties of Olig2-expressing progenitors in the development and injured states. Short- and long-term lineage analysis in the developing forebrain elucidated that not all late Olig2+ cells are direct cohorts of early cells and that Olig2 lineage cells differentiate into neurons or glial cells in a region- and stage-dependent manner. Olig2-deficient mice revealed large elimination of oligodendrocyte precursor cells and a decreased number of astrocyte progenitors in the dorsal cortex, whereas no reduction in the number of GABAergic neurons. In addition to Olig2 function in the developing cortex, Olig2 is also reported to be important for glial scar formation after injury. Thus, Olig2 can be essential for glial differentiation during development and after injury.

  • The mammalian ovary is innervated by sympathetic and sensory neurons which contribute to regulating several aspects of ovarian function, including blood flow, steroidogenesis and follicular development. The existence of a neural connection between central neurons and the ovary has been rarely reported, but the mechanism underlying integration of ovarian activity to broader neuroendocrine responses has not been reported. We have now used a viral transneuronal tracing technique combined with a conventional retrograde labeling procedure of CT-HRP to demonstrate that oxytocin-producing neurons of the hypothalamus are synaptically connected to the ovary. Since ovarian activity is suppressed but the activity of oxytocin neurons is increased during breast feeding. Our finding that the oxytocinergic neural connection is likely to provide a direct transsynaptic mechanism by which the central nervous system maintains the state of infertility that accompanies lactation in mammals.
