  • A neural model predictive control strategy combining a neural network for plant identification and a nonlinear programming algorithm for solving nonlinear control problems is proposed. A constrained nonlinear optimization approach using successive quadratic programming cooperates with neural identification network is used to generate the optimum control law for the complicate continuous/batch chemical reactor systems that have inherent nonlinear dynamics. Based on our approach, we developed a neural model predictive controller(NMPC) which shows excellent performances on nonlinear, model-plant mismatch cases of chemical reactor systems.

  • In this paper, the inverse model of a servo system is realized in a PDP-type neural network. The neural network learns the mapping between the input and output of the servo system. Some simulation results show the effectiveness of this inverse model obtained here.

  • Nonlinear time series prediction is derived and compared between statistic of modeling and neural network method. In particular mean squared errors of predication are obtained in generalized random coefficient model and generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic model and compared with them by neural network forecasting.

  • Using the neural network model for oriented principal component analysis (OPCA), we propose a solution to the data least squares (DLS) problem, in which the error is assumed to lie in the data matrix only. In this paper, we applied this neural network model to channel equalization. Simulations show that the neural network based DLS outperforms ordinary least squares in channel equalization problems.

  • The full automation of welding has not yet been achieved partly because the mathematical model for the process parameters of a given welding task is not fully understood and quantified. Several mathematical models to control welding quality, productivity, microstructure and weld properties in arc welding processes have been studied. However, it is not an easy task to apply them to the various practical situations because the relationship between the process parameters and the bead geometry is non-linear and also they are usually dependent on the specific experimental results. Practically, it is difficult, but important to know how to establish a mathematical model that can predict the result of the actual welding process and how to select the optimum welding condition under a certain constraint. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop an neural network model to predict the weld top-bead height as a function of key process parameters in the welding. and to compare the developed model and a simple neural network model using two different training algorithms in order to select an optimal neural network model.

  • It is well known that the finite element analysis often has an inaccuracy when it is in conflict with test results. Model updating is concerned with the correction of analytical model by processing records of response from test results. The famous one of the model updating methods is FRF sensitivity method. However, it has demerit that the solution is not unique. So, the neural network is recommended when an unique and exact solution is desired. The generalization ability of radial basis function neural network is used in model updating. As an application model, a cantilever and a rotor system are used. Specially the machined clearance($C_p$) of a journal bearing is updated.

  • A research on agricultural automation is a main issues to overcome the shortage of labor in Korea. A sweet persimmon farmers need much time and labors for classifying profitable sweet persimmon and ill profitable products. In this paper, we propose a mixed two-step synthetic neural network model for efficiently classifying sweet persimmon images. In this model, we suggested a surface direction classification model and a quality screening model which constructed from image data sets. Also we studied Class Activation Mapping(CAM) for visualization to easily inspect the quality of the classified products. The proposed mixed two-step model showed high performance compared to the simple binary classification model and the multi-class classification model, and it was possible to easily identify the weak parts of the classification in a dataset.

  • This paper focuses on modeling and predicting differential GPS corrections transmitted by marine radio-beacon systems using artificial neural networks. Various neural network structures with various training algorithms were examined, including Linear, Radial Biases, and Feedforward. Matlab Neural Network toolbox is used for this purpose. Data sets used in building the model are the transmitted pseudorange corrections and broadcast navigation message. Model design is passed through several stages, namely data collection, preprocessing, model building, and finally model validation. It is found that feedforward neural network with automated regularization is the most suitable for our data. In training the neural network, different approaches are used to take advantage of the pseudorange corrections history while taking into account the required time for prediction and storage limitations. Three data structures are considered in training the neural network, namely all round, compound, and average. Of the various data structures examined, it is found that the average data structure is the most suitable. It is shown that the developed model is capable of predicting the differential correction with an accuracy level comparable to that of beacon-transmitted real-time DGPS correction.

  • We propose a novel deep neural network model for detecting human activities in untrimmed videos. The process of human activity detection in a video involves two steps: a step to extract features that are effective in recognizing human activities in a long untrimmed video, followed by a step to detect human activities from those extracted features. To extract the rich features from video segments that could express unique patterns for each activity, we employ two different convolutional neural network models, C3D and I-ResNet. For detecting human activities from the sequence of extracted feature vectors, we use BLSTM, a bi-directional recurrent neural network model. By conducting experiments with ActivityNet 200, a large-scale benchmark dataset, we show the high performance of the proposed DeepAct model.

  • This paper presents a novel neural based controller which controls the water level of the nuclear power plant steam generator. The controller consists of a model reference feedback linearization controller and a PI controller for stabilizing the feedback linearization controller. The feedback linearization controller consists of a neural network model and an inversing module which uses the neural network model for computing the control input to the steam generator. We chose Piecewise Linearly Trained Network(PLTN) and Recurrent Neural Netwrok(RNN) for an approximator of the plant and used these approximators in calculating the input from the feedback linearization controller. Combining the above two controllers gives a result of better performance than the case which uses only a PI controller Each control result of PLTN and RNN is given.
