Congestion-Aware Handover in LTE Systems for Load Balancing in Transport Network

  • Long-Term Evolution employs a hard handover procedure. To reduce the interruption of data flow, downlink data is forwarded from the serving eNodeB (eNB) to the target eNB during handover. In cellular networks, unbalanced loads may lead to congestion in both the radio network and the backhaul network, resulting in bad end-to-end performance as well as causing unfairness among the users sharing the bottleneck link. This work focuses on congestion in the transport network. Handovers toward less loaded cells can help redistribute the load of the bottleneck link; such a mechanism is known as load balancing. The results show that the introduction of such a handover mechanism into the simulation environment positively influences the system performance. This is because terminals spend more time in the cell; hence, a better reception is offered. The utilization of load balancing can be used to further improve the performance of cellular systems that are experiencing congestion on a bottleneck link due to an uneven load.

  • This paper focuses on a hash-based, distributed Wet caching network that eliminates inter-cache communication. An agent program on cache servers, a mapping program on the DNS server, and other components comprised in a distributed Web caching network were modified and developed to implement a so-called "consistent" hashing. Also, a dynamic load balancing algorithm is proposed to address the load-balancing problem that is a key performance issue on distributed architectures. This algorithm effectively balances the load among cache servers by distributing the calculated amount of mapping items that have higher popularity than others. Therefore, this developed network can resolve the imbalanced load that is caused by a variable page popularity, a non-uniform distribution of a hash-based mapping, and a variation of cache servers.

  • Mobile Ad hoc Network(MANET) consists of a node that has mobility. In MANET, the node has routing, the node builds a network of their own, no dependent infrastructure. Topology are exchanged due to node mobility in MANET. For reducing the change of topology, hierarchical network algorithm has been investigated. In hierarchical network, cluster member node communicates through cluster head node. When the load-balancing of cluster head node is exceed, assigned cluster member node can't communicate with base station. To solve this problem, we proposed Load Tolerance algorithm. The proposed algorithm, when cluster member node can't send a message by cluster head node that exceed load-balancing, then the cluster member node sends a message by selected load tolerance node. Through a simulation, the proposed algorithm improves packet delivery ratio in cluster routing.

  • The problem of video scheduling is analyzed in the framework of divisible load scheduling. A divisible load can be divided into any number of fractions (parts) and can be processed/computed independently on the processors in a distributed computing system/network, as there are no precedence relationships. In the video scheduling, a frame can be split into any number of fractions (tiles) and can be processed independently on the processors in the network, and then the results are collected to recompose the single processed frame. The divisible load arrives at one of the processors in the network (root processor) and the results of the computation are collected and stored in the same processor. In this problem communication delay plays an important role. Communication delay is the time to send/distribute the load fractions to other processors in the network. and the time to collect the results of computation from other processors by the root processors. The objective in this scheduling problem is that of obtaining the load fractions assigned to each processor in the network such that the processing time of the entire load is a minimum. We derive closed-form expression for the processing time by taking Into consideration the communication delay in the load distribution process and the communication delay In the result collection process. Using this closed-form expression, we also obtain the optimal number of processors that are required to solve this scheduling problem. This scheduling problem is formulated as a linear pro-gramming problem and its solution using neural network is also presented. Numerical examples are presented for ease of understanding.

Enhanced Hybrid Routing Protocol for Load Balancing in WSN Using Mobile Sink Node

  • Load balancing is a significant technique to prolong a network's lifetime in sensor network. This paper introduces a hybrid approach named as Load Distributing Hybrid Routing Protocol (LDHRP) composed with a border node routing protocol (BDRP) and greedy forwarding (GF) strategy which will make the routing effective, especially in mobility scenarios. In an existing solution, because of the high network complexity, the data delivery latency increases. To overcome this limitation, a new approach is proposed in which the source node transmits the data to its respective destination via border nodes or greedily until the complete data is transmitted. In this way, the whole load of a network is evenly distributed among the participating nodes. However, border node is mainly responsible in aggregating data from the source and further forwards it to mobile sink; so there will be fewer chances of energy expenditure in the network. In addition to this, number of hop counts while transmitting the data will be reduced as compared to the existing solutions HRLBP and ZRP. From the simulation results, we conclude that proposed approach outperforms well than existing solutions in terms including end-to-end delay, packet loss rate and so on and thus guarantees enhancement in lifetime.

Development of a Multiple SMPS System Controlling Variable Load Based on Wireless Network

  • This paper proposes a multiple switch mode power supply (SMPS) system based on the wireless network which controls variable load. The system enables power supply of up to 600W using 200W SMPS as a unit module and provides a controlling function of output power based on variable load and a monitoring function based on wireless network. The controlling function for output power measures the variation of output power and facilitates efficient power supply by controlling output power based on the measured variation value. The monitoring function guarantees a stable power supply by observing the multiple SMPS system in real time via wireless network. The performance of the proposed system was examined by various experiments. In addition, it was verified through standardized test of Korea Testing Certification. The results were given and discussed.

  • A combination of VPNs and dial-up access, such as DSL and Cable, usually provides the cost-effective solution as the substitution of private networks on high-cost leased line. The business demand for high availability has increased with VPN spreading. This paper presents the schemes for a high availability of network access and a load balancing of network traffic in VPN gateways by using multiple links or multihoming capability based on active-active approach. The high availability and load balancing of network links can be achieved by duplicating external network access into multiple independent links. This can provide a continuous network connection to internal users even if one of the links is failed. Moreover, it can provide twice network bandwidth by distributing the traffic into the links. Static and dynamic algorithms are proposed as the load balancing algorithms.

A novel method for vehicle load detection in cable-stayed bridge using graph neural network

  • Vehicle load information is an important role in operating and ensuring the structural health of cable-stayed bridges. In this regard, an efficient and economic method is proposed for vehicle load detection based on the observed cable tension and vehicle position using a graph neural network (GNN). Datasets are first generated using the practical advanced analysis program (PAAP), a robust program for modeling and considering both geometric and material nonlinearities of bridge structures subjected to vehicle load with low computational costs. With the superiority of GNN, the proposed model is demonstrated to precisely capture complex nonlinear correlations between the input features and vehicle load in the output. Four popular machine learning methods including artificial neural network (ANN), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), and support vector machines (SVM) are refereed in a comparison. A case study of a cable-stayed bridge with the typical truck is considered to evaluate the model's performance. The results demonstrate that the GNN-based model provides high accuracy and efficiency in prediction with satisfactory correlation coefficients, efficient determination values, and very small errors; and is a novel approach for vehicle load detection with the input data of the existing monitoring system.

  • With today's complex networks, asset identification of network devices is becoming an important issue in management and security. Because these assets are connected to the network, it is also important to identify the network structure and to verify the location and connection status of each asset. This can be used to identify vulnerabilities in the network architecture and find solutions to minimize these vulnerabilities. However, in an IoT(Internet of Things) network with a small amount of resources, the Traceroute packets sent by the monitors may overload the IoT devices to determine the network structure. In this paper, we describe how we improved the existing the well-known double-tree algorithm to effectively reduce the load on the network of IoT devices. To balance the load, this paper proposes a new destination-matching algorithm and attempts to search for the path that does not overlap the current search path statistically. This balances the load on the network and additionally balances the monitor's resource usage.

  • This paper proposes a new short-term load forecasting method for special day, such as Public holidays, consecutive holidays, and days before and after holidays. when the load curves are quite different from those of normal weekdays. In this paper, two Artificial Neural Network(ANN) systems are applied to short-term load forecasting for spacial days in anomalous load conditions.
